Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Just to add another sadness. Amnesty UK are pushing Kate Nash's 'lets have a heated debate' in the form of popular music. It is using her video with their logo and supporting her message on Tiktok.

A £3 Amnesty international direct debit, listening to Billy rouse a festival crowd and using Morrissey to heal a broken heart were part of my 20s. I feel i'm living my best AiBU if you're over 50, what no longer brings you joy thread.

🎼🎤🎼"Women are facing serious dangers
Not during boxing matches or from trans people needing a piss
But from actual violence that is carried out against them every week
According to End Violence Against Women, every 3 days a woman is killed
By a man
More than 100,000 girls are at risk and living with the consequences of FGM, forced marriage and honour based abuse
Kathryn Bromwich from the Guardian states that Trans people make up roughly 0.5% of the UK population & are twice as likely to be victims of crime than cis people.
According to Home Office figures, this country has seen an increase in hate crimes towards Trans people
And cis women are supposed to focus on a threat we have yet to see manifest from a small minority of the country who are struggling to stay safe themselves

Exclusionary regressive misogynist

Er, Ew, Girl, Listen up"🎤🎼

Wow, the lyrics are quite something! As Arabella said, very catchy 😆 I've been humming them to myself all day.

It's like if Adrian Mole wrote festival songs.

"Do you weep, Mrs Thatcher, do you weep?
Do you wake, Mrs Thatcher, in your sleep?
Do you weep like a sad willow?
On your Marks and Spencer’s pillow?
Are your tears molten steel?
Do you weep?
Do you wake with ‘Three million’ on your brain?
Are you sorry that they’ll never work again?
When you’re dressing in your blue, do you see the waiting queue?
Do you weep, Mrs Thatcher, do you weep?"

Kate doesn’t reckon being punched in the head by a bloke puts women in danger?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Quite the intellectual heavyweight, isn’t she.

Or Rik from The Young Ones - except it would undoubtedly also shoehorn praise for Cliff Richard in there somehow!

It's always hilarious when an acronym hasn't organically arisen from a meaningful phrase, but rather somebody has clearly come up with a word that they want to use and then super tenuously tried to mangle a phrase in there that almost fits.

My brother is really nice too. I’ve known him all his life and he’s really quiet and just lives his life, he’s really kind and funny. I’m happy to share a changing room with him, but I don’t think other women should.

Exactly this. I'm going to guess he wouldn't insist or even ask, though.

The friend in this case, OTOH, also didn't ask but sounds like will continue using them anyway.

Just be cool ok, like me… just a cool girl / 37 year old woman, being edgy and brilliant, beloved by cool people who are almost always LGBTQ+ and not old women like you

Generally not beloved by LGB.

It's a fairly major achievement to be 'only' headlining a small stage at one of the most famous festivals in the world. Or to be rated as a performer by Billy Bragg.

I dont think she's wrong that plenty of voices on the GC side aren't radical or feminist. Nor would they claim to be.

But you said that she was “headlining Glastonbury” - headlining the Leftfield stage is nothing of the sort. I’ve performed on this stage and I’m a total nobody! Have you been?
And Billy Bragg certainly doesn’t command the respect he used to do (being a misogynist arsehole).

I have a degree in English Lit but the poet I can quote the most is Adrian.

Pandora, I adore ya!
I implore ye, don't ignore me!

Never heard of Kate Nash. Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much.

I haven't. But genuinely if you saw my friend you would never suspect she was born male. She's had all the surgery and has been living as female since she was 13. I don't see her as a threat to anyone.

This is the thing, there are genuine trans people (obviously you can't change your sex but I do believe there are some people born in the wrong body). But there are far too many now who are just predators and wanting to be exhibisionist/sex pests/intrude on women's spaces. I just don't think it's as clear cut as a lot of people on here do. Yes my friend was born male but believe me, you would not be intimidated by her in women's spaces. She's actually very shy and quiet and certainly wouldn't do anything to make people uncomfortable. Unlike my neighbour...

Nobody is ‘born in the wrong body’. We are born into the body we are in. What a shame people like your friend have been encouraged to undertake invasive cosmetic surgery, manufactured hormones and live a life in stealth. Why could they not just be a bloke who likes to wear women’s clothing? Because they are not, nor ever will be, female.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/06/2025 09:25

I think Kate Nash and her ilk are TWATS.

Not an acronym, they’re just twats and I’m shouting it.

TWATS.

@PermanentTemporary I'm in a band and consider myself gender critical and a feminist. I certainly don't rate Billy Bragg as a person or a performer nor do I rate him as a socialist - the 60 + man who likes to have his photo taken with young female lap dancers . How progressive ! As for Kate Nash - she never bothers about working class women in prison , the majority who have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused who would have to share facillities with men who male sex offenders if Trans women were allowed self ID which she wants ? She really hasn't thought it through has she or she doesn't give a tosh does she as long as Kate gets a gig at Glasto with bloody stupid Billy Bragg.

Nash, like Judith fucking Butler, is held up as a feminist but both put 'queer theory' ahead of feminism. It's really important I think to point this out about many female TRAs. I don't think queer theory and feminism are necessarily incompatible but this strand where you raise men up over women definitely is. You fundamentally cannot be a feminist if you don't centre women.

ScraptionoftheCost · 04/06/2025 10:36

I'd like to see Kate Nash belting out that song on stage without having the lyrics in front of her. Actually, no I wouldn't, reading the lyrics was more than enough of that shite.

When you virtue signal potential income away it's little wonder you have to exhibit yourself on Only Fans and have your bills paid for by wankers.

TheCatsTongue · 04/06/2025 10:41

She's really clever, she states that 91% of rapes are committed by non-trans identified males, 0.5% of the population are trans.

So basically saying 9% of all rapes are committed by 0.5% of the population. So trans women are 20x more likely to commit rape?

PrimalLass · 04/06/2025 10:47

Woman writes a song complaining - and defaming - other women, then bleats in the Guardian about online comments.

princessleah1 · 04/06/2025 10:48

SueSuddio · 04/06/2025 12:07

Maybe it's a shrewd tactic to get airplay on radio6 who have spent all week with a dominant hand-wringing narrative about how backwards the UK is with trans rights. When many of their listeners will think it was a step backwards for women to be walloped by biological men in the boxing ring.

FriedGold32 · 04/06/2025 12:15

My daughter has a disability caused by a complex chromosome abnormality, part of her genetic code is duplicated on one of her chromosomes and another part is missing on a different chromosome.

Is she born in the wrong body? Or is it only men who want to wear knickers that happens to?

newrubylane · 04/06/2025 12:21

That's not what radical feminism means, Kate.
