Sorry if this has already been shared - here are the links to their letter and statement. Looking forward to the Mumsnet analysis :-)

I'm sure he's had advice from the likes of rmw whom as we all know (atleast those who heard his women's hour interview) is a "expert" in these matters 🤪

Did you mean egg spurt?

Crouton19 · 17/05/2025 06:07

Is is possible to see who has donated to the crowdfunder, ie any large donations from shady organisations? This is what FWS were accused of after all.

WarriorN · 17/05/2025 06:37

TheOtherRaven · 16/05/2025 16:29

I can hear the crunch of Michael Foran, Peter Daly, Naomi Cunningham and Akua Reindorf sharpening their pens as they murmur oh ffs..

Nothing to see yet but JK has a LOT of popcorn in

Sigh. Having witnessed this sort of thing from the 'inside', my heart sinks at the knowledge of how much official time and energy will be diverted to dealing with this rather than the many other things that government ought to be focusing on.

On the plus side, I note from one of his footnotes that Kew Gardens now offers single sex toilets again. Hurrah for that.

Exactly my response. It's all bullshit, everyone knows its bullshit, everyone knows it won't succeed. But everyone has to plod through the unbelievably tedious motions anyway. Thirty pages of bullshit. And taxpayers will have to cover the time, effort, and expense of carefully and laboriously explaining each point as if to children.

It's a version of 'the process is the punishment', only for this lot it also appears to have made them an enormous amount of money, just to waste everyone's time.

I have to admit I can't even be arsed to read it.

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2025 08:19

RareGoalsVerge · 16/05/2025 20:25

This is the thing I am really needing to remind myself. It's far better that they waste their money and time on this futile tantrum rather than doing anything that might actually make a difference.

Yes, except it wastes our time and money, too.

Given the cost of living crisis, food banks, the NHS struggling, etc, quite a lot of taxpayers may be understandably pissed off at the time wasting eejits.

And if I were in the legal sphere, I'd be losing patience with someone making the profession look so absurd and pointless.

fromorbit · 17/05/2025 08:57

JM's video on X now has a glorious community note.

Readers added context
Sending a letter before action is not "starting legal proceedings". The very point of a Pre-Action Protocol LBA is to "try to settle the dispute without [legal] proceedings". The Good Law Project have previously had to apologise for misleading statements such as this.

I was under the impression the middle one did so now as well. But I can’t find the source just at the moment.

But totally not a social contagion. Nope.

Labour Pains blog link
This blog by Richard Dunstan gives a fairly comprehensive lowdown on how and why JoMo got himself into this mess. It includes links to the interview with the elder daughter (Grin) saying her sister is also trans, Grin was also included in a Guardian article about children who have been given puberty blockers & hormones. I'll see if I can find it.
I'm not surprised he looks unhinged in that video, he's got himself in a proper Chinese finger trap. He's never publicly acknowledged his personal reasons for his crusade and is careful to never directly link the GLP to his daughter's campaign group, but as more people become aware of it he's looking even less credible. He still gets positive interaction on bluesky & insta but every trans related post on twitter is thoroughly mocked. No serious people want to be publicly associated with this grifting nonsense.

Difficult transition: Jolyon Maugham KC’s identity crisis

As noted on this blog last month, it was always going to be fun watching Jolyon Maugham KC and his Good Law Project try to re-invent themselves, following the demise on 4 July last year of the Tory…

TheOtherRaven · 17/05/2025 09:31

The fury of women having protections in law being so very openly voiced by this movement, the contempt for women, the belief that women should not be allowed dignity, privacy, a voice, a right to choose their own sexual preferences, their own language or anything not controlled and ruled by men, that their role is unconditional submission and silence, the threats of sexual violence so prevalent for any woman protesting this,

and two out of three daughters who identify as boys, as mentioned in that article.

I wonder why it could feel a better option to be a boy?

DrUptonsGardenGnome · 17/05/2025 09:38

I cannot imagine what it must be like to work at the GLP. I would have gone off sick from the whiplash induced by having to shift so often from one cause to the next.

SionnachRuadh · 17/05/2025 09:41

If we didn't know Jolyon had skin in the game, I'd speculate he was losing all these cases as part of a complex tax avoidance strategy.

Of course the two things don't contradict each other. Maybe we should ask Gary Barlow.

That. ^^ I suspect it may have to eventually be faced that there is no court proceedings or judgment that can be understood or accepted by this political movement. It is beginning to look like a capacity issue rather than an insufficiently explained or proved issue.

I'm sure we'll get there eventually, but it is a bit like trying to explain to a toddler that Darth Vader isn't real.

Thanks for this, if you click through and read the piece by JM’s daughter ‘Grin’ it’s absolutely hysterical nonsense, clearly written by someone who has a very tenuous sense of reality, how can JM not see what he’s encouraging in this child? It’s an absolute dereliction of his duty as a parent, it’s completely unacceptable.

Guardian article
Here's that Guardian article from last year, puberty blockers obtained from abroad and testosterone bought privately...
He's absolutely one of Helen Joyce's "last Japanese soldiers"

They got her medication at 13?! JFC no wonder he’s behaving like he is, imagine having to justify doing that to your child? Helen Joyce is bang on as always, he can’t row back from this now, how could he possibly admit what he’s done?

SionnachRuadh · 17/05/2025 12:24

Precisely this. What a lot of sound and fury. Why aren't they fundraising and campaigning for, say, awareness-raising about how gender-non-conforming men in men's spaces shouldn't be subjected to violence or ridicule? I mean, I might even support that.

I would have - once.

Now they can fight their own battles. Given their oppressive attitudes to women over the past decade it's not as though they haven't shown they are amply capable.

I would now categorise this under what a friend of mine delightfully calls 'another fucker's shit'.

For a while the eldest had a Twitter account documenting the impact of testosterone on her voice. Was also allowed to participate in the boys’ category of her sport (plenty of evidence online).

With everyone indulging Maugham Jr to that extent, it’s no wonder she has a particular view of reality. Presumably Mrs Maugham wholly committed to this path as well?

WorriedMutha · 17/05/2025 13:21

I first came across JM in the aftermath of the Brexit vote when he pitched his tent on the remain lawn. He seemed like the voice of reason to me as an avowed remainer. I'm now questioning my reality when Kemi, Reform and Trump sound like the grown ups in the room. I think this is the danger of living in our bubbles and in a multimedia environment where we shop for our preferred views, it's easy to see how we have become such a polarised society.

Is now the time for a 'transwomen welcome here' stickering campaign on men's spaces?

DrudgeJedd · 17/05/2025 13:28

GLP bluesky video
Jolyon & co are projecting massive transwomen onto the front of the Supreme Court.
Brace yourself before clicking the link 😁

Good to know the donations are being spent wisely
