Guess the dicks have figured out which biological sex that makes most household shopping decisions.

It’s been a great few days for reverse ferreting.

Can someone give me the gist of the original post from Ocado (now deleted) - I'm a bit behind on all this!

The CTO for Ocado originally posted. Ocado has now posted the same message.

These comments are not representative of us as a company, and we believe they were made by a temporary contractor who is no longer with the business. We apologise unreservedly to Mumsnet.

Bluebootsgreenboots · 18/04/2025 15:38

I’m confused. What ‘comments’ are Ocado referring to in their apology? I’ve read Justine’s post and the DM article. I haven’t seen a reference to Ocado comments, just the fact that Ocado pulled advertising (and therefore revenue) as a direct response to Mumsnet supporting clarification of the word ‘sex’ in the EA.
Am I missing something? Or does it look like Ocado isnt entirely sure what they’re meant to be apologising for, but are going to issue an approximate ‘sorry miss’ in the hope it’s enough to get them off the hook?

anyolddinosaur · 18/04/2025 15:40

What have they been up to now? Stopped using them years ago so it wont actually affect me.

BiologicalRobot · 18/04/2025 15:42

Since when do temporary contractors have the power to tie in multi million pound advertising contracts?

They don't. But Ocardo think women are dumb enough to believe it.

The CTO (James Donkin) writes:
Good to see Ocado have come back with a response. Please don’t judge the thousands who work at Ocado by comments from a temporary contractor.
I’ve met Justine and have nothing but the utmost respect for her and what she’s achieved at Mumsnet Towers. It’s a fantastic site, community and resource.
JD is in Ocado Technology. I await someone from the main part connecting with MN to negotiate the derailed partnership. That would be crossing the golden bridge.

Right.

Mirabai · 18/04/2025 15:46

They’re not getting me back as a client.

anyolddinosaur · 18/04/2025 15:47

Just found the Daily Mail article. Emailed them years ago saying why I wouldnt be using them again and if that is meant to be an apology it wouldnt encourage me to start using them again.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 18/04/2025 15:50

I’m not on Twitter so I’m limited to what I can see. What did the ‘temporary contractor’ with full access to their Twitter account say?

Cursula · 18/04/2025 15:55

Allthesnowallthetime · 18/04/2025 14:44

I have only ever been in an Ocado once in my life. I don't think I have missed out at all.

Other supermarkets are available!

Were you the ‘temporary contractor’?!

It’s pretty poor for this reason.

biedrona · 18/04/2025 16:09

they don't deliver to Scotland either, so cannot give them my middle finger

milski · 18/04/2025 14:10

I'm so disappointed that Ocado decided to weigh in on this debate against their target market. I didn't realise that they had at the time and am still in two minds about cancelling, based on their obvious lie of an apology.

I'm always surprised when businesses actively work against their target market. It's as if they've forgotten they're in the business of making money.
See also the Body Shop and Budweisser 😂

JasmineAllen · 18/04/2025 16:20

Just when you thought you couldn't be any more pissed off with this shit 🤬

Well done for standing firm @JustineMumsnet, I take my hat off to you and the MN team x

Felinnefine · 18/04/2025 16:23

Oh god fcking pathetic. Their response makes me hate them more.

Either -

  1. Stick by your convictions; OR
  2. Accept you were wrong, wholly apologise and offer all women a free delivery under £50 ;)

Fcking spineless twats.

The only thing worse than a company (or person.. Starmer 👀) who betrays women, is a company (or person) who betrays women then lies about it.

Sorry. The last couple of days since the court judgment have really brought out some Tourette’s relief.

blueshoes · 18/04/2025 16:23

Let's see the Ocado weasels put their money where their mouth is. I expect to see Ocado ads taking over the site, otherwise they must really think women are dumb to fall for 'temp contractor' backpeddling just when they realised their pockets are going to be hit by their main customer base.

Justine should name and shame the lot.

Allthesnowallthetime · 18/04/2025 16:27

@ramonaqueenbee

@SporadicMincePieMuncher

I visited an Ocado in 2010 when I had a short visit to Croydon. I don't think we have had Ocado in Scotland ever.

@Cursula no!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2025 16:30

Misspotterer · 18/04/2025 15:13

Was just about to post a link to Justine's interview.
Ocado in damage control mode trying to blame a random employee. Was the random employee also the reason they refused to engage ever since? So fed up of everyone bloody lies at the moment.

That dm piece isn’t an interview. I think they’ve just lifted Justine’s post from the ‘thank you MNHQ’ thread.

SigourneyHoward · 18/04/2025 16:34

I thought Ocado had only ever been an online supermarket- did they once have a physical presence or did you visit a distribution centre @Allthesnowallthetime

Motherknowsrest · 18/04/2025 16:35

It looks like Barclays need to be next, although they sponsor the FA who hate women, so I don't hold out much hope there. Spineless fuckers the lot of them.

senua · 18/04/2025 16:38

"These comments are not representative of us as a company"
Can you clarify, please, Ocado. If those comments don't represent, then what does?
Can you confirm that, in line with the SC judgement, you accept that TWAnotW. And, in line with Maya's case, you accept that Gender Identity and being Gender Critical are belief systems that are both worthy of respect, and that no employee of Ocado will be harassed for having GC views.
Please and thank you.

fromorbit · 18/04/2025 16:39

Lets get Barclays to apologise next

IrisPallida · 18/04/2025 16:43

I am really fucked off by this. I wish I had known about this at the time because I would never have used them.

I get an Ocado delivery every week and now I want to cancel it because of this.
