Guess the dicks have figured out which biological sex that makes most household shopping decisions.

Can people who are not on X see the whole apology / thread?

If you email them there’s a “delete my account” option and a box below where you can add comments as to why, I’ve done it this morning.

Me too.

All I can see is the post: "These comments are not representative of us as a company, and we believe they were made by a temporary contractor who is no longer with the business. We apologise unreservedly to Mumsnet."

Looks like Lidl is the only one.. not only do they Not think twaw (really, though they pretend they do these days. I think they’ll be the first to update), they got their knuckles rapped in 2013 on this issue..

In an advert, ‘It featured what appeared to be a transgender woman, with the headline 'unexpected item in bagging area'… 🫣

Is ocado a shop? I thought it was a delivery service.

It's a delivery service. They don't have shops. Just warehouses.

Yes, I wondered 'what comments?'.

Felt like it was the middle of a conversation.

SirQuintusAurelius · 18/04/2025 20:00

Ocado must really think women are stupid. It's statement is obvious nonsense.

These comments are not representative of us as a company, and we believe they were made by a temporary contractor who is no longer with the business. We apologise unreservedly to Mumsnet.

Justine Roberts said

‘When we included a call to clarify the definition of sex in the Equality Act in our 2024 Mumsnet Manifesto, Ocado – who had been excited about a partnership – abruptly pulled out, citing Mumsnet’s ‘hateful political views’.

A partnership! That is a mainstream planned decision that usually has a long lead in time and not a choice of a temporary contractor.

Not only are they offensive but they also have failed to apologise properly, for the right things and in a sincere way.

Pains me to say it because I do like Ocado but I won't be shopping with them any more. I'm disgusted with the whole thing. Barclays just as bad but I dont have an account with them anyway.

BiologicalRobot · 18/04/2025 20:06

notwavingbutsinking · 18/04/2025 18:59

I'm a regular Ocado custimer who somehow missed billboardgate and am now torn - cancel on the basis of past wrongs, or continue with them in recognition of their apology (notwithstanding the fact they seem confused about what they are apologising for, but it's a start)?

Are Waitrose really any better? Our local one seem to be perpetually festooned in LGBTQIA+ bunting.

Edited

There are two instances.

One was billboardgate, the other was last year.
The first was against adult human females being a hateful slogan, the second was to punish mumsnet for having vocal adult human females on it.

It's not a good look however you spin it.

KnottyAuty · 18/04/2025 20:16

Not sure why anyone here is hesitating. Treat this lie with the disdain it deserves. No more Ocado orders wims. Until the come and grovel at Justine’s feet and pay MN at least twice the going rate for ads

SirQuintusAurelius · 18/04/2025 20:22

It's not just that though is it. They need to apologise to women for describing views that are - thank god- common sense and have been ruled lawful - as "hateful". It's very anti-freedom of expression as well and unnecessary.

The whole thing is bizarre really and a very sad reflection on the mad position society has got into.

I mean imagine going back in time 100 years and explaining all of this to Queen Victoria or Emmeline Pankhurst or your own deceased great grannies, grannies. I don't think they'd believe a word of it because it's so out there.

mcduffy · 18/04/2025 20:27

I got temporarily giddy that I could go back to them, was a loyal customer of ten years, spending over £10k pa and on their monthly freebies testing list. 2018 was my FWR awakening (because of ocado and that fucking billboard). Morrisons get to keep me, then! Easy decision. Wankers (ocado, not Morrisons. Morrisons have never let me down with woke bollocks).
For anyone that wasn’t around then, loads of MN Ocado customers cancelled their accounts and they telephoned us all but refused to tweet an apology. I said I needed it to be on social media as the original incident had been, for me to not cancel. I didn’t realise the USA link but all falling into place now…

KnottyAuty · 18/04/2025 20:30

Is there a thread of GC friendly suppliers? I feel I may need this soon. Will be shopping around for my household big spends I think

Allthesnowallthetime · 18/04/2025 17:07

@SporadicMincePieMuncher

I think so? Was a smallish shop with products that said Ocado on them. Remember going there particularly because we didn't have Ocado at all where I live. I bought fruit ...

That trip to Croydon stuck in my mind because I was there for an exam and have not been back there since.

I"m from Croydon & no idea what you mean?!

Ocado has never had physical shops - originally they used to sell some Waitrose products but now they have partnered with Marks & Spencer & Morrison's.

There used to be a Waitrose in East Croydon (originally a Safeway) but closed a few years ago.

There's loads of dodgy mini-markets, vape shops etc now that it wouldn't surprise me if some of them sell 'fell off the back of the lorry' ocado branded stuff though.

BlakeCarrington · 18/04/2025 20:48

Never used Ocado and glad I haven’t. But I notice a few pp’s have mentioned Lloyd’s upthread. I’m not up to date on their stance since the SC ruling - would anyone mind giving me a quick summary pls? I’m a long-standing customer of theirs and am very willing to take my lady money elsewhere if they think they can ignore the judgement.

Allthesnowallthetime · 18/04/2025 21:06

@Serencwtch love your user name!

This was in 2010. Maybe it was a small Waitrose? Would they have had Ocado products?

I feel like I have created my very own Mandela effect here!
( Something that I am absolutely convinced happened but can't be true 😂).

I doubt it. Waitrose weren’t happy about Ocado putting their own lines in

"Thought I would come on here today with a note of support for our trans and non-binary colleagues on what I know will be an unsettling day following the UK Supreme Court decision," he wrote on Lloyds's Rainbow network.

Ours have been captured by the rainbow brigade. Don't know if it's a local decision. I seldom shop there (only some of DH's gluten free stuff).

To be fair I think they would keel over again when they saw their prices….

but yes internet, lorries, goods planes, sheer variety of produce etc. A lot to take in. No wonder humans are stressed.

Oh no, really? Who’s left? I briefly used Sainsbury’s but there was some issue with gender stuff and loos. Tesco are captured too. Do I need to start shopping in person at aldi?

KnottyAuty · 18/04/2025 21:43

Is there a thread for approved GC suppliers?

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 18/04/2025 22:11

I live near a large Ocado facility and know how many people rely on the company for work in the local area and I have, and will, continue to use them. I would not boycott for an ivory tower corporate communication, as Ocado have acted like so many other companies, organisations, our government, NHS.... by protecting their backsides and being frightened to offend for fear of being on the wrong side of a small area's fence! I'm more concerned as to why common sense in our society, as to how people share space, feel safe and have functioned for decades if not centuries, seems to have been overtaken by a few, in a relatively short period of time and ended up in frightening people. Having worked with those who've experienced domestic and sexual violence, single sex spaces are vital now and in the future.
