The Bluestocking: where conversation should supersede cards

The Blue Stockings Society was founded by women emphasising education and mutual cooperation. Men could attend as invited guests, but in this Women's Pub, they are only welcome to peer enviously through the windows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Stockings_Society

All women welcome!

All tastes catered for.

All food containing calories will not increase waistlines.

All drink containing alcohol will not intoxicate beyond the mildy merry and slightly inhibited stage. Guaranteed no hangovers.

Don't mind the gerbils, hamster, capybaras, quokkas and other assorted rodents. They're all female, all staff and very accommodating...

I am having a bit of a sod-it weekend, with regards to the diabetes. I’m not going completely mad, but I am having some treats.

Frankly, I need some chocolate to cheer me up after the fiasco of Wales’ defeat by Italy in the rugby. When I was a kid, Wales were pre-eminent in rugby - now they are playing like a school side, not an international one.

I've wrangled some chocolate with a bit of cream and some gerbils to keep your feet warm.

Very lovely, Myrtle! The combination of the deep rich matte colour of the beads and the little gold [ I assume 'gold'😉] beads in between is really successful.
Beautiful!

Oh yes! <nods head a lot> Definitely gold. Real goldy gold.

Thank you x

Wales being defeated by Italy in a rugby match feels like going against the natural order of things.

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2025 21:57

So...

Nobody told the kitchen gerbils that images are working again!

Edited

Spoooky, I was just going to post that Wales being good at rugby should be the Natural Order of ThingsSmile
I was going to add that it was like Cork being good at hurling but I thought it was a bit local... but Cork are the Wales of rugby, that's all you need to knowGrin

I'm sure Wales will be back, there is a tide in the affairs of sport...
I mean, Italy?? whoda thunk, but they're good, aren't they?

GailBlancheViola · 08/02/2025 22:10

I always felt rather sorry for Italy always losing, seems they have improved quite remarkably if they have beaten Wales.

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2025 22:12

OK.

I tried the fabric and sewing thing.
I've knitted some socks
I attempted the make up - its very subtle
The nails pfft the technician couldn't actually find any so just dabbed random bits
And who in their right mind thinks heels are a good idea?

I just don't think I'm cut out for this womaning lark.

You look gorgeous, Boily! I particularly like the mismatched shoes, very fashion forward!

Thanks. Although I feel like I'm in drag! I'm off to take the shoes off, mainly because the feet of the blokes I nicked them off are still in them.😕

I wouldn't wear those slippers with dogs around, they're liable to either think your feet are being eaten and attack them, or else hump them.

Britinme · 09/02/2025 03:09

I loved the Barbie movie! It was heavy-handed and screamingly obvious but also funny and made me laugh.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/02/2025 07:28

I am looking forward to a staying in sort of day today, as the local footy team are playing Liverpool. It will be chaos- I live less than a mile from the stadium and it's bad enough on a " normal" footy day. People park all over our road- double yellow lines, dropped kerbs, service lanes all fair game to leave your car. Grrrrr.
However, I can hear any cheering from my back garden which is quite fun!

Gorgeous pjs but that is not the way to carry a cat. You need to put a supportive hand under its bum and snuggle it it against your chest. If you had six limbs you'd be able to do that, carry your beer, scritch kitty's head and walk all that the same time.

But if you've gone hands and legs for the sake of fitting into your nightwear, you'd better put the drink down.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/02/2025 09:16

Bloody hell..almost £500 for ( beautiful) jimjams!
Those are Lottery Winner Pyjamas for sure.

Hungry Feed Me GIF

I'm a bit disappointed by the way the gerbils let themselves go as soon as the cameras were off them.

BTW we seem to have been trying out a hamster as wait staff. Perfectly lovely rodent but she doesn't use a tray...just her cheek pouches!

Imagine this .gif but with buttered crumpets and in reverse.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2025 09:47

If you want to carry a pet and a drink etcat the same time, I guess a ferret which you can drape around your neck would be ideal.

It is possible to carry a cooperative cat one handed imo. I'm sure everyone can spot the potential pitfall in that. On the other hand, a standard dachshund is definitely a two handed job so be careful if you're moving Colin. My poor old boy couldn't manage the stairs in the last few years of his long life, and after he'd gone deaf didn't like me being out of sight so I'd frequently have to make two trips up and down stairs.

DeanElderberry · 09/02/2025 10:00

I have carried a solidly built adult cat one-handed, but not far and really wouldn't recommend it. And I always make sure the hinder parts are well supported.

I'd really rather not, thanks all the same, @lcakethereforeIam!

But they're silk and maybe a teensy bit on the expensive side... 🫣

Beautiful, if not way too pink.

However, who in their right mind pays £500 for a pair of pjs (I realise the answer is probably JKR)
