Dh has kindly poured me an enormous Baileys, so I am feeling a bit more cheerful.

And I’ve picked a new pattern to do - here.

I do still have to rip out the other blanket, because I will need the yarn, but that is tomorrow’s job, I think.

Couldn't you just sort of... well... bodge it?

Well no knitters are obsessive perfectionists detail matters

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius can you knit a hedgehog?

I can find patterns for hedgehogs so I could certainly try.

The Bluestocking has a 24 hour licence, right? And a night shift of bar gerbils?

Only it's 2.20 a.m. and I'm wide awake, again.

A hot chocolate with a lot of brandy in it might work.

It's a skeleton crew but you can still order whatever your heart desires

Here you are, CherFro. Hope you can get some sleep after this. Don't mind the gerbil/chipmunk sitting on top of your drink, the brandy will soon make you forget all about that

Ok Boily, CherFro drank that one so they made two more - which one do you fancy?

Bonjour Boiled and Bluestocking Bafflegabbers.

I've bought myself some Cheap Bailey's this Christmad. I made a lovely small tumbler to drink it out of as well, but the glaze ran and welded the cookie to the bottom, and so ive got to make a little 'base' for it once I've ground the cookie off with my Dremel and refire it to get it to stick on the bottom. Nothing in pottery is bloody simple.

(Cookies are gerbil dinner plate sized clay biscuits that sit under your glazed item in the kiln to protect the kiln shelf as if the glaze drips onto it, your tumbler gets welded to the kiln shelf which can make drinking Cheap Bailey's quite cumbersome).

Magpiecomplex · 27/11/2024 07:11

One word, @AlisonDonut. Straws. That's solved your "drinking from a tumbler welded to the kiln shelf" problem!

Straws???

Not much use when the kiln is hot though, and a bit hard to snuggle in bed with.
I need to get my second tea of the morning...woke up a bit early despite not getting to sleep till later than I'd have liked.

AlisonDonut · 27/11/2024 07:44

i've been up since 5:30 and it's nearly 9 here.

I just think a kiln shelf is going to take up an awful lot of room in the dishwasher!

That's beautiful. The glaze and the shape. I think the cookie is being unfairly blamed here. From what you posted I think the glaze is the guilty party.

I think it looks beautiful, AlisonDonut, and you should make a base for it and turn it into a vase...or a vaz....or even a vawzGrin

I turned my back and suddenly there's a new Bluestocking thread.
Fortunately I went back to the previous one - mostly to find out WTF is all this about hedgehogs? - and found that the previous Bluestocking manifestation went out in a blaze of glory, an absolutely inspired and hilarious set of posts that I almost missed!

Thank you for the new thread, and welcome to any newcomers to the Bluestocking Arms, if you've strayed in you already have a pretty good idea of what goes on here from the posts so farSmile

AlisonDonut · 27/11/2024 11:25

I'll definitely make a base for it. I might make it into a mini goblet.

I am sending you thoughts and prayers at this difficult time of No Baileys, @AlisonDonut. I very much enjoyed my Baileys last night, and surprisingly it didn't send my blood sugar sky high.

I love the colour of the glaze you've used - that sort of deep teal green is a favourite of mine.

I'm off for my winter vaccines tonight - at 18.54 precisely.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/11/2024 11:52

18.54 sharp! Great news about the Bailey's.

The Bluestocking Arms. I have stumbled upon it and it looks very cosy. Loving the discussions about crafts and I'm so sorry about the tumbler. Is it easier to begin again rather than grind off the erroneous cookie?

I am a little bemused. Is there a dress code? I worry that popping in while dressed in comfy PJs might be disapproved of. Is anyone welcome? What generally is spoken of in here? I wouldn't want to spoil the atmosphere by bringing up something taboo.

And what's with the amazing AI generated images?

I'll have a small sherry while I'm waiting. I imagine it might be the height of rudeness to join in but not order.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/11/2024 13:04

Hello Myrtle. Dress code? Hope not- comfort is the ethos of the Bluestocking.

A bar gerbil will bring your drink straightaway. They are very well trained apart from occasionally dipping their feet in your beverage.

Otherwise just go with the flow!

Magpiecomplex · 27/11/2024 13:20

Welcome Myrtle! I'm not aware of a dress code, which is good because I'm wearing very grubby steel toe boots currently (and clothes, obviously).
If the glass of sherry is too small, you can always order another.

The amazing AI images are because we're experimenting with AI to illustrate life at the Bluestocking & finding the AI often comes up wanting. For example, this is what I got by inputting your name & saying you were drinking sherry by a roaring log fir (sic). Heaven knows what AI thinks a strumpet is. It does have lacunae (nods to MdeG).

PS Welcome!
