My DH decided that Christmas started tonight. This is an unexpected blessing. The tree goes up on the nearest Saturday after 1 December, but we made a concession that it would go up on the 30 November this year.

Usually the tree going up is a signal that it is now a special occasion and we can indulge in alcoholic beverages. For indulgence to begin two days before December feels very decadent.

My tipple is now a beautiful Malbec.

Edited

Would that be an Argentinian Malbec or a Chilean Malbec? They are both great but incredibly different.

Ooh, magnificent and too difficult to choose just one.

Hic! Evening all! I can't believe I'm still up...

Shared some wine at the bar with DH to celebrate DS1's brilliant school report today at his ASN class; no meltdowns, laughing and he did some activities, such as joining numbers and doing alphabet lists. V proud!

Shared a bottle of v nice red (amarone, a posh one, ta MIL) and about to toddle off to bed and hope DS2 doesn't come through at 4am as he has been doing recently. The joys of toddlers!

Also pensieve kitty all clear 100% now; final blood tests came back today. Yay!

Ps nah no Christmas tree yet for us, maybe Sunday... There are wasps in our loft! Wasps!!!! At this time of year it's fucked up...pest control guy coming over on Mon says it's the latest he's ever heard of!

Spent ages perusing first lines of carols… You people are too quick and too witty for me… I found one so far.

I second that, inky. I'm finding it a bit hard to keep up with all the clever repartee, I hope it just temporary, as I usually enjoy Joining in All the Reindeer Games..
Maybe it's because I'm interacting on a couple of other threads, and I really should just focus my energies on small furry rodents carrying mugs of hot chocolate, blazing fires and enjoying other people's clevernessSmile

Real life isn't without its challenges at the mo, but I like to leave that at the door of the Bluestocking, beside the elaborate cast-iron bootscrapers in the form of a...... a.... see, I can't even think of anything funny to finish that sentence withSad

A small team of gerbils and rodents bearing delicacies, pronto, please!Grin

😁

The only reason I can do any of this is decades singing in choirs. Any other topic and I’d have nothing. Plus it was easy to be first.

I spend a lot of time sitting quietly in a corner of The Bluestocking just admiring the posts, the skill behind the posts, and the resulting AI.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/11/2024 12:31

I'm sorry life is tough at the moment, @MarieDeGournay - I'm sending you lots of love and hugs - I just wish there was more I could do.

My poor long covid-foggy brain can't keep up either - nor can it get around how to do the AI images, so I just sit quietly and wonder at the brilliance of the rest of you.

inkymoose · 30/11/2024 12:41

I find it quite hard work making the AI do the image I actually want it to do! Trying to get the words right in the right order, looking at the image, shaking my head, people don't have three legs et cetera... I want to know how Boily does it, because she is super quick.

Bluestocking: the one where Boiled gets to the bar first!
FuzzyPuffling · 30/11/2024 12:48

I've stepped away from even attempting AI and am happy just to admire others contributions.
The odd limerick from the depths of my befuddled brain is as good as it gets from me.

Magpiecomplex · 30/11/2024 13:05

@MarieDeGournay First course...

Bluestocking: the one where Boiled gets to the bar first!
Magpiecomplex · 30/11/2024 13:07

And possibly rather more sausage rolls than you wanted...

Bluestocking: the one where Boiled gets to the bar first!
ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/11/2024 13:13

Please note this is not how I see you, Bluestockingers who claim befuddlement, this is the best image I got out of the AI, despite tweaking the description numerous times. AI is just terrible at doing women - but we know that.

I loved the extract from another image.

Bonjour Allez les Bluestongingerss.

I am in Bordeaux. For 36 hours.

Pizza tonight! OH doing the half marathon tomorrow. Chocolatines for petit dejuner in the morning after dropping him off for his run.

Proper curry for lunch tomorrow then back home.

And it's bloody sunny here.

Enjoy the sunshine. It's grey and miserable here. I'm not jealous, not at all, mutter mutter...

MarieDeGournay · 30/11/2024 13:51

Thank you Woley and Magpie - good thoughts and quokkas work a treatSmile
There's something so warm and kindly about quokkas, isn't there - no disrespect to gerbils, but they are more cute than kindly. Quokkas seem genuinely interested in your wellbeing, gerbils are just so cute that you can't help smiling at them.

If those sausage rolls are veggie, I'll just direct the rescue squad to my freezer thanks Magpie, and they can stack them up in thereGrin

I'll be OK thanks - I take things that happen on the national or international stage very personally, and as things are going so far backwards in many ways...😨
But there are some good omens too, I must concentrate on those - in fact now I think of it, there's a poem I read at times like this...TBC when I find it, I'll post it.

MarieDeGournay · 30/11/2024 13:53

Here's the poem. I don't know anything about the poet, must google her sometimes..

Sometimes
by Sheenagh Pugh

Sometimes things don’t go, after all,
from bad to worse. Some years, muscadel
faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don’t fail.
Sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war,
elect an honest man, decide they care
enough, that they can’t leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best intentions do not go
amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow
that seemed hard frozen; may it happen for you.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/11/2024 13:56

So I tried to illustrate @AlisonDonut living the life while the rest of us have gloomy skies. I started with 'bluestocking pub, one half sunny, the other half raining' & the AI delivered these, along with two boring, half-hearted attempts at what I actually asked for.

Nobody told me we had a lion! What else is lurking here?

That's lovely, & hopeful. It seems so unusual, so far away these days, though, doesn't it? Such an age since we trusted anyone. Good people seem rarer, & more valuable than ever.

AlisonDonut · 30/11/2024 14:00

I did see a ginger cat as we parked up.

AI is uncanny.
