Perhaps you need something like fingerless gloves only gauntlets for feral cat-stroking, Donut?

DeanElderberry · 29/11/2024 11:51

She looks very like Roisin Dubh, black fur and jade green eyes, except Rosy has the most delicate little white lace jabot. And sharp sharp claws and teeth. Always used with love of course.

MyrtleStrumpet · 29/11/2024 12:09

Sadly I am allergic to cats, but I do have a daily cat calendar. This is today's offering. Not grumpy, just its face.

I hope she feels better soon, and doesn't suffer the side effect I get from amoxycillin, which is that everyone else becomes unkind and demanding and mean and it's UNFAIR and I have to cry.

I invariably get thrush on antibiotics. So I warned her about that, I was able to give her an impromptu and subtlety (is that how it's spelled, it looks weird) terfy lecture on vaginas...they're not just holes!! She's very 'be kind', so I take the opportunities that present themselves.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/11/2024 12:15

Love the namechange, @AsWithGlad - very festive.

I hope your dc feels better soon, @IcakethereforeIam - ear infections are horrible.

I had a long lie in this morning - one of the dogs was an absolute pain all night - she didn't do a wee when let out at bedtime, so woke us up several times during the night - once to be taken out for a wee, and the other times, just for sheer bloodymindedness.

The other dog is in a Cone of Shame - she has had an issue with an infected pad on a back paw for weeks now - she's had lots of antibiotics, and we thought it was finally gone, but she was fussing at it yesterday, so dh took her back to the vet, who said maybe there is something in the pad (though there's no pain or protest when anyone presses or pokes the pad), and maybe the antibiotics were stopping it coming to a head and making its way out - so now she is in the Cone, so she can't lick/fuss it, and is off walks for the foreseeable, to see if anything does burst out. She is doing her very best Sad Faceâ„¢.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/11/2024 12:17

Poor dog. There has to be a paw/poor pun in there somewhere.

AlisonDonut · 29/11/2024 12:25

One of my semi ferals is on antibiotics at the moment. What a right royal PITA it is. But he can't chew properly and dribbles and then sleeps and gets the dribble down his chest and then starts smelling if I don't clean him up. Poor little bean.

DeanElderberry · 29/11/2024 12:30

Cider vinegar, diluted and applied externally is my go-to for that.

DeanElderberry · 29/11/2024 12:55

Cider vinegar for the thrush obviously, not for dribbly friends or poorly pads. Poorly pads might get soaked in warm saline.

Phew! Dabbing a semi feral's chops with vinegar isn't on my to do list.

Luckily I read the clarification before I found my mini funnel, the one with the spout small enough to fit in sprogs ear.

It's olive oil for ears, not vinegar.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2024 18:13

Though come to think DH, who is prone to ear infections, tried various treatments used before and after swimming which are supposed to help prevent infection, some are eg olive oil with tea tree but one was acetic acid.

Yes, while we were walking back I told sprog how, when I was little, my mum had a small medicine bottle of olive oil because chemist shops were the only place you could buy the stuff. Coincidentally, we were delivering some Hovis up the hill to Old Ma Peggity's. Or that's what you'd think we were doing from the look on her face.

I was referencing Dean's posts about the vinegar😊

Incidentally, surely Dean Elder Berry must be ripe for some AI?

Eta oops, just spotted the latest ones. I imagined her looking a little more scholarly.

DeanElderberry · 29/11/2024 19:41

scholarly right, I need glasses! Without them I wouldn't be able to see to get all that delicious vinegar into my gob. There was a perfect portrait of (a slightly youthful) me a week or ten days back.

and it all looks unusually clean and tidy and well organised.

Olive oil in the lugs, salt (or epsom salts) on the poorly pad, vinegar in the area of itch.

I think you misread the instructions for 'relaxing in the bath with a drink', Deano, like: not fully clothed and A drink...Grin

You also appear to have an apple in your bath.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/11/2024 19:50

You also appear to have an apple in your bath.

Taking her cue from the capybaras and their oranges.

DeanElderberry · 29/11/2024 19:52

It is getting there, and all makes sense.

If not perfect sense.

The apple is a tribute to my inner capybara. If I was an outward capybara it would be an orange.

I hope the bottles aren't a hint that the AI thinks I'd get into an ice bath/drinks cooler. neither capybaras nor Deans appreciate cold baths. The Bluestocking is not the Chalet School.

Fully clothed is a reference to my grandmother's experience at school ca 1910 where the girls were expected to wear a special garment while bathing to preserve holy purity.

Bathing while still wearing your gorgeous cashmere cardi? Most unexpected

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/11/2024 20:24

@DeanElderberry 'There was a perfect portrait of (a slightly youthful) me a week or ten days back.'

One of the images of you in the kitchen is a near-perfect portrait of an old friend of mine. That was spooky.

AsWithGlad · 29/11/2024 20:27

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2024 00:02

I don't think I'm going to be able to see your name @AsWithGlad without mentally completing '-ness men of old'!

A thought: perhaps my January name will be IWasGlad.

Will that make you think ‘Glad when they said unto me’?

Edit: someone else already has it. 🥲

AsWithGlad · 29/11/2024 20:31

Is that a very deep bath, @ifIwerenotanandroid? I can’t see how else @DeanElderberry could fit her legs in there.
