Blimey those rodents are scary! AI is obviously good at picking up on threatening language like 'if you think you're hard enough', which is surprisingly subtle of it..
Anyway don't worry, they're all dahn The Mediated Identity, miles away from the Stockin'. They've probably stopped fighting and are buying each other drinks and tearfully claiming to be each other's best friend by nowGrin
I know it's incredibly immature to make fun of people's names, but seeing all those Baudrillardian rats reminded me that there was a French anthropologist called Marcel Mauss..

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2024 18:28

I don't think I'd heard of Baudrillard before today, debating whether I CBA to take a look at the wiki page. Maybe someone can do a quick summary....or I suppose I could ask ChatGPT to do it.

Alas, Madame, it's not subtle at all. I asked it for a fierce gerbil. Here's a calm, happy one saying the same thing (which it still can't spell).

I tried to get it to do 'I'm budgerigard enough', but no. DON'T LOOK AT THE YARN!

It's becoming obvious what they are having to agree with big names and what deals they are doing! So they've scraped Britannica for the info BUT you have to then click on the link to get a decent bit of information!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/11/2024 18:57

1929-2007 apparently.

'Baudrillard defined "hyperreality" as "the generation by models of a real without origin or reality"; and his earlier book Symbolic Exchange and Death. Hyperreality is a representation, a sign, without an original referent.'

Can anything be without an original referent? Maybe referent doesn't mean what I'm assuming it does. Also, I've just woken up after being so knackered that I fell alseep in an armchair, so just ignore me.

Oh he's just one of those French intellectuals so beloved of Cultural Studies departments.

I picked him because your helpful explanation of why AI makes such a mess of words
'I'm not sure but I don't think the image generators are outputting words as such, they're outputting pictures of words.'
and 'pictures of words' reminded me of Baudrillard because he wrote a lot about images and reality and that sort of thing.

That makes him a tad more relevant than some of the others because his work can be applied to the use of images rather than words in communication these days,🤔 if you know what I mean😉- I think he died before emojis took over but I bet he'd have had a field day deconstructing them😄

Also, 'Baudrillard' worked better in '..if you think you're Baudrillard enough' whereas Lacan or Deleuze wouldn't have worked - nah, don't bother with them either!, unless you have a burning desire to study French post-structuralism🙄

That quokka might need a bath, I think. Can she find her own way to the spa?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/11/2024 20:28

Sorry, guys. Tell yourself that the budgie is inside the ball of yarn. It helps a bit.

I requested an image set in the present day, where a Baudrillardian gerbil is drinking cocktails with her friend the revolutionary Marcel Mauss at the Mediated Identity pub. Although one of the pictures of Marcel Mauss is clearly Karl Marx ...

Then I asked the AI to make the image a bit more contemporary.... And actually I'm quite impressed with these

Loving them all thank you!

I notice a woman appeared in the bottom right pikkie - does that mean that AI thinks that a French intellectual could be <gasp> a woman, and not a beardy oul' lad with white hair?
I think maybe she's an early 20th century reincarnation of Marie de Gournay. And a much better likeness to the actual me than the usual ones🙄
And she obviously loves gerbilsSmile

@MarieDeGournay : "I notice a woman appeared in the bottom right pikkie - does that mean that AI thinks that a French intellectual could be <gasp> a woman, and not a beardy oul' lad with white hair?"

If only!
It doesn't even think feminists are women. But, feminists have no sense of humour. All women have long hair. Some women are men. Setting a scene in contemporary times means the 18th century. Magpies are jays. Women do not know how to drink tea.
