I'm definitely hoping that the Bluestocking-based requests are skewing the AI's learning process in just that way.😂These threads won't be helping scrapers, either.

I don't understand why it struggles so much with language when it's so precise (if proper arbitrary) with the images. There was an image around p26 by Android with the words "bluper lody" or similar, and the only association I could think of (maybe I missed something really obvious? did I?) was the "bloofer lady" in Stoker's Dracula. Like, where did that come from?

I'm not sure but I don't think the image generators are outputting words as such, they're outputting pictures of words.

'Not words as such, pictures of words'?? - don't you be coming round 'ere with your Baudrillardian notions of simulacra and simulations, we don't take kindly to that kind of talk here - I'll thank you to take yourself down the road to The Mediated Identity if you want that kind of talk!

Point proven?Grin

Presumably at some point there will be AIs better at splitting the prompt into what parts are asking for image generation and what needs text and then integrating these elements appropriately.

That's not what Marie looks like!

Oooh I don't know, Deano, I like the helmet and goggles look, nobody would mess with me if I looked like THAT! And I'd happily wear the outfit bottom right, partial to a bit of tailoring is Marie..Wink

I think the persona I had in mind when I was writing it was more like the woman in the buffet in Brief Encounter who says things like
Johnnie, Second Soldier : Come on, here, mother, be a pal.
Myrtle Bagot : I'll give you mother! You saucy upstart!
Bill, First Soldier : Who you callin' an upstart?
Myrtle Bagot : You! And I'll trouble you get out of here double quick! Disturbing the customers and making a nuisance of yourselves.

She is of course the source of the advice about how to get something out of your eye by pulling your eyelid down as far as it'll go....Grin

Chersfrozenface · 09/11/2024 10:32

In other news, I'm trying to tidy up and declutter a bit. Yesterday the Elder Sprog helped me with some dismantling and, um, mantling, and sorting out.

Dear Lord, we found and tidied away so much booze! Bought for some reason and not consumed. I'm going to have to take up drinking as a serious hobby, if not an actual profession.

The AI had a go at the brief encounter scene

Your explanation was really interesting - that makes sense. It still feels surprising, though: you want minute cogs on an android, and Arnie stuffed with kittens? Fine. Ask for dialogue, though, and it's an amalgram of Cyrillic and Clockwork Orange...

I did like the black-hatted hamster convention, too. They all looked very earnest. Rather disturbed by the design of the gun?! in the pineapple pic, though...

FuzzyPuffling · 09/11/2024 11:29

@Chersfrozenface was all the booze hidden?
Good thing Christmas is almost upon us, you can legitimately add alcohol to almost anything.
Says me, who scarcely drinks.

MarieDeGournay · 09/11/2024 11:34

LOVE the Brief Encounter scene, Boily, and the 'dialogue' is wonderful,
I can just see two East End toughs squaring up to each other outside The Mediated Identity
'You callin' the cucumbers 'cyombs'?'
'What if I am?'
'Them's fighting words, mate!'
'Actually, them's not words, they's Baudrillardian simulacra of words-as-images!'
'Oh yeah? Step outside and say that again, if you think you're Baudrillard enough!'

Not deliberately hidden, no. Just put away in unlikely places or out of sight behind clutter.

And you are absolutely right. I shall resurrect the habit from group holidays pre kids of putting Baileys in my coffee at 10 a.m.

I do the same, but nowadays I'm haunted every time by the diabetic dietitian's words (real words, not AI mashups): "Alcohol is known as 'liquid cake'."

Sometimes that stops me as I reach for the bottle, & sometimes it doesn't.

Catiette · 09/11/2024 13:43

I'm still enjoying the Brief Encounter scene. I find the quantity of food rather lovely - it's like an army potluck or tupperware party!

(stumbles headlong into the kitchen to check the stash)

I think it's still all there. It's a bit difficult to tell whether one or two bottles are missing - it is quite a large stash curated collection.

I did craftily put the almost empty ones at the front
