En franglais, in English .... open to all women for company, fun and fabulous artworks. Leave unwanted reality in the porch and come along in.

You beat me to it, Inky, my suggestion was:
Last to the Bluestocking pays for the cocktails!

That's a gorgeous image. Is it a real photo?

Maybe I should explain that my username comes from a love of shiny, sparkly things!

I think (hope) the one on the left is just removing a stray hair or clump of dried-in mashed banana.

Let us hope so.

Thanks for the hares. Probably my favourite wild mammal, unbelievably fast.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2024 19:45

We sometimes do a walk to the site of a Bronze Age circle. It was timber so the post positions are marked with concrete cylinders but it's a lovely spot, its entrance aligning with a dip between the hills which I'm pretty sure is exactly where the sun rises. Once when we went there was a hare there... I've not got a single woo bone in my body but there really is something about hares, it seemed like the spirit of the place.

You were lucky to see thay. They are just magical.

All we saw today was a young rabbit. The dogs excitedly told me it was there, but were very good and called away and didn't chase it.

EdithStourton · 29/09/2024 10:02

Just reporting that on this morning's walk I saw several swans, a heron and a stoat.

After an hour's hike, a full English would go down very well. Are the gerbils up yet?

Unfortunately it was Gloria's birthday yesterday. The gerbils celebrated last night after finding the Bluestocking sloe gin.

Might you prefer a packet of crisps?

Not much wildlife round here. Apart from a jackdaw nonchalantly walking over the road at a junction in front of four lanes of stationary traffic, evidently being familiar with the traffic light sequence and knowing it had plenty of time to stroll across.

Boiledbeetle · 29/09/2024 11:07

I've managed to wake some of the gerbils up.

Careful Boily, looks like there are some acorns in the second picture. Don't want to give Cake another shock.

DeanElderberry · 29/09/2024 11:14

Oh dear, you know that thing when you have convinced yourself you are feeling cheerful and well-balanced and you walk into the kitchen to put the kettle on and Ralph McTell is on the radio singing It's a long way from Clare to here and you just dissolve in a bucket of tears and snot.

That.

So the remaining gerbils can just forget about sore heads and hurty tummies and get up and do something amusing and lighthearted. Maybe a Busby Berkley style dance line up, but furry.

Boiledbeetle · 29/09/2024 11:20

Oh all the gerbils got up and went to the kitchen...

They're dreaming about being in a chorus line, though.

I'm trying to think of the wildlife I see, so squirrels, foxes, bats, mice, rats, various bird species and bloody annoying seagulls going mad at 4am cos some drunk idiot dropped their chips in the middle of the road on the way home last night

How adorable 😍

They look like they are channelling the Roly Polys there!

The first attempt was more of an avant-garde dance troupe...

Black is okay for rehearsals but the shiny colours will be better for the SHOW! And also display their nice curvy figures to advantage.

Magpiecomplex · 29/09/2024 11:48

I must admit I was looking at the cut of the black ones around the legs and thinking Ouch!

I'm sure we've all seen this - Japanese crows using pedestrian crossings for food preparation.

I went to a very interesting Darwin Day lecture about intelligence in jays a few years ago - here's a piece describing some of the work

That's stunning!

But think how many times the gerbils had to try to get their routine perfect! They must be exhausted!

I'm currently imagining the acts on the next series of gerbils got talent
