The original premises are getting crowded, we need to expand.

Welcome all women, and well behaved animals.

I love those. I'd love to get a card like that!

Feel free to print one out, stick it on a card & put it on your mantlepiece.🌲When the time comes, obviously, otherwise it would be weird.

Chersfrozenface · 09/09/2024 11:40

I finally got hold of the difficult person, the conversation was a bit less difficult than anticipated though still not easy, and I now feel the need for a stiff drink.

Could I have a double gin, one of those orange infused jobbies, with a citrussy tonic and a few cubes? Apologies to the gin purists, but that's what I want and believe I deserve.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/09/2024 12:22

It sounds delicious, @Chersfrozenface, and you deserve every bit of it!

I saw my GP this morning, and it was very positive - she seemed sympathetic, and I think she believed me, and what I was saying about how bad my condition is, post covid. I have to have bloods done, to rule out any other possible issues, and then she is going to refer me to Scotland’s long covid service.

I‘m also going to bite the bullet and apply for a blue badge and the adult disability payment (Scotland’s version of PIP).

Crossed fingers for a good, swift outcome from the long Covid service and the badge/payment application.

Well done @Chersfrozenface and @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius for doing the "grot stuff" and getting through it.

Gins all round!

EdithStourton · 09/09/2024 17:53

Definitely gins all round.

It feels like autumn here today. This time last year it was swimming-in-the-river weather and I was swanning around in sandals and lightweight clothes.

Walked the dogs in a jacket and jeans this afternoon. Does anyone mind if I light the fire?

FuzzyPuffling · 09/09/2024 17:58

I've got my furry fake-oodie on. Aka my " muu muu".

It was sunny here today and quite warm, but as soon as the sun begins to sink it's decidedly chilly.

On the good side, I got a large line of washing dry. ( This always pleases me greatly. I'm a bit odd like that!).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/09/2024 18:04

I love an open fire, @EdithStourton, so it’s a yes from me. We could get toasting forks and make toast at the fire. Slightly wood smoky toast with lashings of butter - mmmmmmmmm!

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2024 19:22

The citrusy gin sounds delicious and deserved.

I'm on my hols, glorious walk today in the sun and wind amid the jewel tones of heather and gorse. The holiday cottage turns out to be the sort of place which provides chocolate shortbread and some nice rosé cava which I'm sure the bluestocking now has a supply of.

I think we may be lighting the fire before the week is out, which will delight DH who doesn't have one to play with at home.

Can I relive my teen years and have a cider and black please. Ooh and a packet of scampi fries.

Ta very muchly.

AlisonDonut · 09/09/2024 20:45

This weird weather is due to some out of the blue rain in the Sahara apparently.

I am going to set the first fire of the year in the next few days, I really enjoy setting the daily fire, and prepping the kindling, and splitting logs.

Saharan Blue Rain would be an awesome name for a cocktail.

Oh, and kindling is called 'morning sticks' where I come from originally.

I was taught to set and light a fire in Brownies when I was about seven. We lived in foreign climes back then, so Brownies was a bit different.

We have a very nice bottle of port open if anybody fancies some.

Well, it's due to piss down with rain so, you know what they say: 'any port in a storm'

On the Oxford canal on my boat, stove on, glass of wine, reading Andrew Doyle “puritans”

light wind outside dark as ink, can hear the odd nocturnal movements of unknown mammals and bugs.

Occasionally punctuated with the odd snore wafting down the boat from my sleeping husband.

life can be good.

And @Bannedontherun that sounds wonderful.

The Bluestocking Arms is temporarily closed due to flooding. The nearby River Reality broke its banks and flooded the ground floor. Fortunately the irreplaceable works of art by B. Beetle, I. F. Werenotanandroid etc were moved to safety by a team of volunteers, including Dame Edith Evans, who generously took time out of her busy afterlife to help fill sandbags, despite a slight misunderstanding of what kind of bag she was supposed to be filling with sand.

Bluestocking regulars will be pleased to know that the wine and cheese shop Le Bas Bleu is located a few doors up the hill, and so was unaffected by the flooding and remains open. There you will find a wide range of superior French wines and cheeses, which despite being of the finest quality contain neither breathalyser-triggering alcohol nor calories, and are self-regenerating.
Regular wine-tasting sessions are run by Jane S. 'you too can sound like a complete w ine expert' Littlegirl -', with occasional sessions in French by Marie de Gournay, enabling you to sound like an even more complete w ine expert.

The Bluestocking Arms will re-open as soon as the Reality levels fall, and the all regulars can enjoy again their usual level of surreality.

To celebrate the re-opening, the Bluestocking will be serving a specially-developed cocktail to mark the occasion, consisting of vodka, blended Tunnock, chocolate liqueur and cream, topped with a chocolate shard in the shape of a quokka. A competition will be held to name the new cocktail.
Your very good health!

Wishing all of us a swift return to very good health, and to fun and games dahn the Stockin'Smile

This one has more of the look of a crushed Tunnocks about it, but sadly no quokka (you just can't get the staff these days).

Not a bother Deano, this is the Bluestocking, so the alcohol does not inebriate, the calories do not fatten, and the gluten is grand entirelyGrin
