The original premises are getting crowded, we need to expand.

Welcome all women, and well behaved animals.

Oh Beetle, that sounds grim. Chin up.

Do beetles have chins?

Boiledbeetle · 29/08/2024 12:21

Can someone send me a roast dinner from the Bluestocking kitchen as their beef stroganoff tastes suspiciously like beef chilli

Bluestocking - the second leg
ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2024 12:29

Certainly...stroganoff should have sour cream in it, that doesn't look right at all.

Hope the pud (some sort of crumble?) is ok?

Is it a testament to my lack of culinary skill that your hospital food looks quite tasty?Blush

DeanElderberry · 29/08/2024 12:31

It looks tasty, but in that quite specific 'I will die of scurvy if I don't get something raw and fresh NOW' way.

Will this do?

Sorry to hear Boiled and SDTG are feeling grim. Did you see the I'm not a terf (to the tune of I'm not in love) on the eponymous thread? Reminded me of you @Boiledbeetle.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius he is still a fine actor, but as an objective realist I know that actors are not always as appealing as the characters they play (ahem Russell Maximus Crowe ).

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2024 12:36

You've only given her half of a proper Yorkshire pudding. Perhaps that's appropriate for a delicate invalid appetite. Or is the other half for afters with syrup?

😁hunger is the best sauce.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/08/2024 12:56

Truly delighted that they haven't managed to kill you @Boiledbeetle I hope you're well enough to come home soon Flowers

If they served roast dinners like that in hospital, I'd be tempted to injure myself so I could dig in although it could do with more gravy and some proper horseradish.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2024 12:58

I expect there's a separate gravy bowser on its way.

Good to hear you are the other side of the op, Boiled, and I'm wishing you strength and recovery and better grub!

I'm much improved after my less dramatic op, so I'm diverting all my virtual grapes and flowers and get welly cards to youSmile
Hoping that the grapes will ward off the scurvy - they are rich in vitamin C, I've just checked.

Best wishes and good health to all who need a Flowers or two.

It's all gone quiet on the imane khalife front....are their enablers still trying to silence Twix? Or are they hoping it's all been forgotten?

I've just done a trawl through a few French-language Algerian newspapers, I don't have Arabic unfortunately.
A report on IK thanking the president of Algeria for all his support since 2022, without which etc etc., in a TV interview just after the gold medal bout.
The gold medal for Algeria via IK wasn't just a sporting project..

No mention of anything later than IK's triumphal return to their village with the gold medal.
No photos wearing anything except the usual sporty look.
No doing the rounds of the talk shows.

One newspaper, oddly, returned no results whatsoever when I searched for 'Imane Khélif', 'page not found'. Not even photos with the gold medal. It's almost as if no-one in Algeria wants to talk about IK now.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/08/2024 15:44

Sending healing vibes to @Boiledbeetle and @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius .
I'd send food but I'm a crappy cook.
I'll send a photo from our morning out instead. Suck in that sea air!

Yes.
That dessert looks terrible...
Nothing personal, you understand.

The minus side of being able to cook is that you eat far too much of it. I came across someone on MN the other day who complained that she had 'a space hopper as a midsection' and I looked down and thought, ah yes, I know what you mean....

Much get welly to @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius and @Boiledbeetle

quantumbutterfly · 29/08/2024 16:29

Are you telling me never to trust a skinny chef ?😁

Boiledbeetle · 29/08/2024 17:35

I'm trying to pretend this is a lush Bluestocking version of this meal. Unfortunately it's truly awful. And i would kill for @JanesLittleGirl half a Yorkshire pudding

Bluestocking - the second leg
lcakethereforeIam · 29/08/2024 17:40

Omg @Boiledbeetle wtf is that on the right, near the fork! 😳

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/08/2024 17:52

Bloody hell, Beetle, you poor thing! All that vileness with the surgery and then the food. Shame you can't eat the virtual offering from JanesLittleGirl, which looks pretty damned good, though I don't see any horseradish sauce.

Many get welly wishes and I hope they let you out soon 💐

EdithStourton · 29/08/2024 17:59

quantumbutterfly · 29/08/2024 16:29

Are you telling me never to trust a skinny chef ?😁

😂 Actually no. A good friend of mine is VERY skinny and an excellent cook.
DM was much the same, now I come to think of it.

<Glances down>
It's only a small space hopper.

Fancy a fruit scone?

Edited to add, Boiled, I am not sure that counts as food.

DeanElderberry · 29/08/2024 18:27

this meal

oh my!

get welly soon

Dumbo12 · 29/08/2024 18:38

Oh Boiled, every sympathy from me. Adult DD was in hospital with a broken leg, for two weeks recently. It cost a fortune in take aways as she only managed one of their meals the whole time she was in. The smell was enough to put anyone off!

JanesLittleGirl · 29/08/2024 18:43

Here's some syrup sponge and custard to compensate for the half ration of Yorkshire pudding.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/08/2024 18:43

Similar here, when my dad had a few weeks in hospital the family took turns to bring him proper food.

The last time I was in hospital, about 14 years ago, I was in for three days and my total food intake was a cup of tea and half a dry cheese sandwich.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/08/2024 18:48

Here's my offering - a warm and spicy Cambodian beef salad with a gorgeous dressing. Rice is on the side, out of sight.
