The original premises are getting crowded, we need to expand.

Welcome all women, and well behaved animals.

Ohhh it was so nice to sleep in my own bed again! We stayed in three hotels, and all the beds were nice, but very, very firm, and two of them were too high for my little legs so I had to hurl myself upwards to get into bed - not tres elegante.

We had hired a car too - dh wanted to have a play with something BIG, so we treated ourselves to an SUV - and again, my little legs were a problem. Getting out was fine - I just slid gently out and down until I finally hit terra firma - but getting in was a real laugh - I had to back up to the door, get my heel on the running board, grasp the door frame with both hands and hooooiiiiiist away. They didn't teach us that in finishing school. Still - it goes back this afternoon, and we are back to our sensible car.

I am off to plot up on a couch, with my coffee and the left-over fruit pastilles from the journey (car sweets don't have calories in, do they?).

We went shopping for a new mattress a few of years ago. I think we went to Dreams first off. All the mattresses they were selling were ridiculous. They were at least twice as thick as a regular mattress, something like you'd expect to see a princess failing to sleep on. You had to buy special fitted sheets. I'm not sure if, once one was on our bedframe, there would have been room between the top of it and our ceiling for us! Don't know if they're still being sold, we got a normal one from John Lewis.

I'm fed up with adulting this week ( wonky eyes, car needing the garage, cat flea treatments....) so I'm joining @PurpleSparkledPixie in the bar. Any plain crisps left- don't like funny flavours?

( Why does my autocorrect change " crisps" to " crisis"? What does it know? )

'Within crisps are the seeds of opportunity', as the old saying says, unautocorrected.
Hope you like opportunity-seed flavoured crispsGrin

Chersfrozenface · 28/08/2024 14:49

Don't tell me, opportunity seeds will be the chia and hemp seeds of 2025.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/08/2024 17:08

As long as they aren't salt and vinegar, of hedgehog flavour ( remember those?) I shall be happy.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 28/08/2024 17:18

*kicks the empty box into a dark corner.

My mistake, there were never any crisps here of any flavour, hedgehoggy or otherwise. I suggest you order in a takeaway.

lcakethereforeIam · 28/08/2024 18:14

Pickled onion flavour Monster Munch. I may be persuaded to share.

Bannedontherun · 28/08/2024 18:28

Prawn cocktail for me

Eeeew...my son used to love these and we called him"Conan- breath" they smelt so bad.

I've never eaten one- couldn't get close enough.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 28/08/2024 19:37

Evening, all. Your crisps are safe with me. I can't eat a damn thing without discomfort at the moment. Am living on toasted sourdough & feeling washed out. Kill me now/Still, mustn't grumble.

Any news of @Boiledbeetle ?

FuzzyPuffling · 28/08/2024 20:05

That sounds rubbish @ifIwerenotanandroidI hope it eases very soon. Although toasted sourdough sounds very tasty.

Well crushing my enemies and seeing them driven before me just adds to the piquancy. Oddly, there was never that much lamentation that I noticed.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 28/08/2024 20:15

@FuzzyPuffling Thanks! It is lovely in its own way.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/08/2024 08:07

Oh, that's glorious! I had no idea the BBC provided a service in Pidgin.

My dad once taught me Pidgin for 'piano' - 'Dis man, him got teeth. You hit him, he sing out'. Until now, that was all I knew of it.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/08/2024 08:39

Thinking on it, I missed a bit. It's 'Dis man, him got teeth. Somee white, somee black. You hit him, he sing out'

It's all gone quiet on the imane khalife front....are their enablers still trying to silence Twix? Or are they hoping it's all been forgotten?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/08/2024 11:03

Grumble all you want, @ifIwerenotanandroid - life sounds manky right now.

I have come back from holiday not exactly all fired up, but maybe with a very mild enthusiasm to eat a bit more healthily. I have slipped into a habit of lots of little treats during the week - it started with a treat or two at the weekend, and now it is a daily habit, and there is no way I will get any smaller if I don't buck my ideas up a bit. I don't wanna, but I must. So I have done the supermarket order for the weekend, and have not put on cinnamon buns, pork scratchings, twiglets or multipacks of crunchies.

I am going to see the GP in a week or so, to talk about the long covid, and how it is disabling me - I can't stand for more than a few minutes (just long enough for a quick shower) and I can't walk even 40 metres. I want to see if there is any help available in Scotland, to treat the long covid, and I am also going to apply for a blue badge and PIP. I hate the idea, but I need it.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear that SDTG. I do hope you can get some help.

As a matter of idle curiosity I think I recollect the origins of some of the parts of your name ... does the first part still apply? (If I've misremembered what the initials stood for that'll make no sense). Some of the newer members of our sorority might appreciate the genesis of 'Wolef' too.Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/08/2024 11:18

The SDTG (Staying David Tennant's Girl) only applies with reference to Dr Who, and to a certain extent, Good Omens, sadly.

The Wolef part came from a misspelling of wolf on MN, and a group of us adopted it as our group's identity for a while. We hung out in Off The Beaten Track, and actually met up in person once, but have now gone our own ways, though we stay in touch.

I'm alive. I didn't get out of theatre until some ridiculous time late last night, I'm now missing two fallopian tubes, the ovaries were basically buried and too stuck with scar tissue and adhesions for them to remove and they managed to tear something on my spleen. So I'm still stuck in hospital.

But I am alive yay!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/08/2024 11:25

I am glad you are OK, @Boiledbeetle - it sounds very traumatic though. I hope you aren't in too much pain - I would recommend taking pain relief even if you don't really need it, because it is easier to stop pain happening, than to make it go away once it gets bad. [takes off apron and nurse's cap]

Chersfrozenface · 29/08/2024 11:34

Very glad you're still a live beetle, Beetle.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2024 12:00

Oh bloody hell Beetle, that sounds grim. Flowers
