The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

A soup with fresh summer vegetables for lunch dinner the midday meal sounds lovely. Anyone up for making some fresh bread? I'll have a go but...😬

Can you make butter from goat's milk?

...I assumed your motto was 'let them eat cake'?

I can make some bread though I cheat and just bung it in a breadmaker. I think I might prefer cheese scones with summer soup though.

I can do you a sourdough, but everyone grumbles.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/08/2024 23:19

I cheat even more & just buy Tesco Finest focaccia. I do make a good scone, though, sweet, cheese or Mediterranean - but the Med ones use feta so we're back to goats again. Revenons a nos chevres.

ArabellaScott · 05/08/2024 23:21

Feta, c'est les moutons, non?

God I feel a bit thick after all the recent posts. Especially ones about grammar, the word, itself, I had to spell check.

Go on pedants do your worst to me, <crouched position>

Maybe I should go on one of them working class only threads and settle in there. Not really.

I am very good at maths though and could do a good spread sheet on what cakes are available, that sort of thing.

Also I can sketch and paint, and am very good at growing vegetables.

How about a nice lunchtime soup tomorrow.

Is there any weeding required? I could do that in the morning.

Anyway loving my stay, off to my luxury bedroom, silk sheets, wafting cotton curtains, across shuttered windows, lovely silent ceiling fan.

Bathrooms a delight nice big tub and all the toiletries one’s heart could desire.

xx

You aren't alone. Here's a photo of my birthday present this year off my sister!

How? There are currently three goats and a quokka singing to you under your windowsill

Bannedontherun · 05/08/2024 23:41

I wondered what that noise was <shutting window>

I heard the quokka might bite or I would have one in with me to cuddle.

NAQALT

ours are so cute and not in the slightest bit bitey. Honest 😉

quantumbutterfly · 05/08/2024 23:45

You've got to pet a quokka or two...

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2024 23:58

Goats are good at singing in baas

Are any of the goats blokes? If they've done that thing of standing on their front legs and peeing on their beards to make themselves sexy for the ladieeeeees they should be moved downwind of the food area. A long way downwind.

Oh dear god yes. If you've been handling them you may need to burn your clothes.Grin

EdithStourton · 06/08/2024 08:52

Goats are very stinky. You can smell them upwind, never mind down.

@Bannedontherun I would like to learn how to grow vegetables. So far I have managed some rather small tomatoes (which taste great if I can get to them before the dog), tiny radishes, inadequate lettuces and a few carrots...

Friends, plural, who grow veg have given me a surfeit of courgettes which I shall be turning into soup with lots of tomatoes (tinned, as have no others). If it tastes decent I'll put it out for lunch. If it's yucky, I expect the goats will be happy to help.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2024 09:17

The goats in our paddock are all nannys, the billies should stay in the field over by The Staunch Ally. They do escape occasionally.Hmm

I wonder if anyone has a brand called Butters' Butter?

ps. not an original witticism, nicked off someone on XTwitter

I hope the goats know that segregating any billy who has gone through male puberty is all about sex, not gender. No goat with whiffy whiskers near the food areas, identity notwithstanding.

Chersfrozenface · 06/08/2024 09:23

I'm trying to imagine goat's butter on toast with jam, and feeling rather queasy.

Ah Dean, you have shown yourself to be not only capable of giving us a great laugh - I hadn't guessed what was going to come after 'who you gonna call?, and laughed out loud - but honest as well.Smile

There are ads for a place locally making goat milk icecream.

I've never had goat milk, does it taste goaty? I've always assumed it must as otherwise why would the cheese, hence not wanting to try it in tea.

OP posts:
Chersfrozenface · 06/08/2024 09:45

Everything from goats smells (and tastes, but taste is mostly smell anyway) goaty. Even goat leather smells goaty, despite the tanning process and the strong chemicals used in it.

I've nothing against goats as animals particularly. Kids often seem to like me. But Lord above, do they pong!
