Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

It is really coming to something when people concerned about far right infiltration of an important political movement are branded "socfems", "mean girls" and "angry wasps".

It's not "coming to something* at all. This is tediously familiar and has been going on for at least seven years that I know about.

In that time people that don't engage in this in group twaddle have done a lot of work. The imminent danger of the collapse of that work due to far right infiltration has been present the entire time and yet remains an unrealised drama endlessly repeated by the extreme left.

I recall the Brighton woman linked upthread confronting Maya Forstater a couple of years ago for being at LWS in Brighton, this being an enormous tragedy because someone right wing filmed it and Maya gently pointed out that she's also right wing! One of the most successful women smeared by the angry wasps. Maya has gone on to be even more influential.

So none of these ludicrous assertions are empirically evidenced as destructive, despite the wasps desperately wanting them to be.

The only thing that continues and probably drives this is their own in group left wing infighting. Which they are welcome to.

Tommy Robinson calls feminists dried up misandrists. He has a conviction for stalking a woman. He criticised a rape charity on Facebook leading to the charity getting hundreds of abusive calls. He is a misogynist.

I'm not sure what there is to debate about it.

I'm starting to think youre a bot.

CassieMaddox · 06/06/2024 13:34

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 06/06/2024 13:31

Why do you want people who are different to you to get about and maybe support your political views?

Gee dunno, probably because there's no point in preaching to the converted?

Someone agreeing with me is not equal to me agreeing with them. It's not like Facebook friends!

One is not going to get "different political views" by aligning oneself with the extreme end of the political spectrum. It just alienates the majority who find the extreme views repugnant.

CassieMaddox · 06/06/2024 13:37

Same TBH. Why so much motivation to debate how Tommy Robinson might be reasonable?

That's your opinion and your entitled to it. And isn't that great that we live in a society where we can openly disagree?

What people here object to is the wild leap from that to 'everyone who was at that event or knows someone at the event or won't condemn the event is a massive racist and should be smeared all over social media.

False equivalence.

Yes. I know. Seven years of peoples concerns about the far right being dismissed by some as a "purity spiral".

This thread is called "chickens coming home to roost".

I would prefer if this thread isn’t derailed by silly images

I would prefer that this thread wasn't used to attack a woman who I should imagine is upset and vulnerable at the moment, whether you feel she deserves it or not

looks like neither of us is going to get what we want out of this

DrSpartacular · 06/06/2024 13:41

"Aligning with the far-right" is such a tedious accusation.

It’s really not.

Why is anyone on here responsible for what a couple of women, who most haven’t even heard of, do?

You’re very deep in this X stuff. Maybe pull back a little

Hepwo · 06/06/2024 13:42

Where exactly are they roosting?

They were ducks last night by the way.

Kemi Badenoch presents the solution to EQA 2010 confusion and that's dismissed as right wing too!

Is Kemi right wing infiltration chicken coming home to roost? I think she must be.

This is left wing bitterness at it's core sadly.

TinselAngel · 06/06/2024 13:44

Well the sheer viciousness of the condemnation of women on this thread and another recent one is certainly making me re-evaluate my involvement in this "movement". I don't fancy being part of something where you can get monstered on the basis of one afternoon's work.

I guess that chilling effect is partly the point though. "Behave or next time we'll come for you." Say Cassie and pals. And the importance of the work you have done in the past is not even considered.

CassieMaddox · 06/06/2024 13:44

Strawman. Noone said that.

The thread is about whether LWS are far right as indicated by the leaflets at the TR event.

This is relevant because some GC feminists repeatedly claim this is a smear campaign against KJK.

It turns out some prominent LWS members were supporting TR at the rally, therefore people raising this had reasonable concerns rather than it being a smear.

It is really irrelevant about individuals social media.

One would have to give a shit about the people monstering you though.

Attending a far right demonstration is not "work".

I don't have any "pals" related to this movement. Unlike you and various others here I'm not in a real life clique.

I don't know what to say about your involvement in "the movement". I've signposted women to your sites and followed your threads which helped me with a real life scenario. It is extremely difficult for me to accept that someone who supports women would see no problem with people attending a TR march. It does colour the support I've had from your content to be honest.

DrSpartacular · 06/06/2024 13:52

What's the difference between a clique and a movement?

Kemi is right wing and a democratically elected MP. I think she's useless and her GMB performance was hilarious but if others want to vote for her and the Conservatives that's fine.

Tommy Robinson is a far right misogynist who is dangerous in lots of ways.

Disgusting to imply those two are somehow equivalent.

Hepwo · 06/06/2024 13:55

I'm not a GC feminist and I know this is a a smear, just the latest of a long line of them from the Brighton wasps

It turns out some prominent LWS members were supporting TR at the rally, therefore people raising this had reasonable concerns rather than it being a smear.

The people that raised this, whose bandwagon you have jumped on, are the Brighton wasps that hate KJK. And there are no members.

It is really irrelevant about individuals social media.

You wouldn't know anything about it if the Brighton wasps hadn't posted their X posts here to set you up.

RebelliousCow · 06/06/2024 13:55

TempestTost · 06/06/2024 10:36

We all know Cassie that you do in fact believe that any number of fairly normal political opinions are signs of being far right.

People are responsible for their own actual views, they aren't responsible for Tommy Robinson's even if they are at the same political rally.

Your problem is you have a very high fear of contamination. Which is actually the roof cause of intolerance of all kinds, on the left and right.

I suggest that fear of contamination is down to being unable to excercise discrimination in formulating one's own arguments. Being able to discriminate between one type of thing and another, or between one set of arguments and another, permits one a greater desgree of protection; but when opinions are formed, and then held to, on the basis, primarily, of group belonging or affinity - then one is less able to discriminate appropriately, and just being around other views and other groups or types of people can be 'contaminating'.

Perhaps you see that as nuance but really it's just degrees of aversion and contempt for anyone right wing.

Yes. It's all an elaborate smear by the socfems who hate KJK.

If only people listened to what TR had tp say they would See the Light and realise the SocFems are wrong

🙄

I get the impression there are people on this thread who don't give a crap about the GC movement beyond being desperate to find anything they can to discredit it.

Isn't it!

Seriously so sick of this guilt by association wrong think shit!

It's not elaborate at all. It's only actually worked on you though.
