Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

Incidentally I see Harry from Fair Cop was also at the march 😱

Policing campaigner goes to a march about policing shocker! Alert the lynch mob!

It's a far right rally organised by a racist thug.

Anyone choosing to attend or speak at it is condoning far right racism. It is gross.

DrSpartacular · 05/06/2024 18:34

Nationalism and patriotism, like so many things, are clearly only acceptable when rooted in "the left".

Scottish nationalism and patriotism is acceptable and applauded.

Welsh nationalism and patriotism is acceptable and applauded.

English nationalism and patriotism...

I find the behaviour by some quite incredible

Yes. It is quite incredible that Britain in the 21st century appears to be heading to a position where far right fascism is just "freedom of speech". And where feminists will vocally support other women's rights to attend far right racist rallies. I can't quite believe it either.

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 18:37

Even "far right thugs" are entitled to an opinion on how they are policed.

EasternStandard · 05/06/2024 18:38

I was thinking of paths people go down to take out someone

It is freedom of speech, we don't have any laws against it in this country unless it strays into areas such as incitement or harassment.

And yes, feminists do have the right to go to any marches they like. Neither you nor I are the boss of them.

Was it really? Or was it the normal TR hate filled far right bilge?

The news might help you distinguish.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/moment-man-hurls-abuse-muslim-32940078.amp Moment man hurls abuse at Muslim woman and is instantly handcuffed

Well yes. I think TR marches have the same issue as pro Palestine.

You may agree with the stated cause: policing/ Palestine, but you are going to be alongisde people with more extreme views you disgaree with racists/ terrorist supporters.

Personally I therefore wouldn't go on either.

But I don't feel the need to denounce or seperate mysef from women who do.
I just disagree with their decision.

CassieMaddox · 05/06/2024 18:44

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 18:37

Even "far right thugs" are entitled to an opinion on how they are policed.

Stop being an apologist for racism. An "opinion on how they are policed" doesn't involve anti Muslim chants, MAGA and pro trump chants and wanging on about national pride.

That's a fig leaf. So racists can pretend there is nothing wrong with a TR march.

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 18:45

You're not going to silence me by shouting "racism" at me. Soz.

DrSpartacular · 05/06/2024 18:46

We've got to a point where so many obviously not far-right/racist people have been called far-right/racist that it's losing its shock factor.

Like how so many of us get called homophobic for wanting the T extracted from LGBT, we know we are not, so the charge of homophobia becomes meaningless.

This constant and nonsensical name-calling and misrepresentation is not only tedious, but it also means that genuinely far-right/racist and homophobic stuff gets a free pass while all the worthy types are getting annoyed that their "GC movement" is being brought into disrepute (a disrepute entirely of their own making as they cast nefarious aspersions).

EasternStandard · 05/06/2024 18:47

People are too invested. It’s following to the next level and taking people out.

People on SM get this all the time, this crazy level of abuse

They have the right to go. And I have the right to say I find it repulsive and racist.

I look forward to you being equally as vocally pro pride marches where adults attend dressed in bandage gear.

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 18:51

They have the right to go.

A minute ago you were criticising people supporting their right to go!

I'm not trying to silence you. More than happy for you to share your views for everyone to see.

It's a shame that it massively discredits GC feminism and confirms some people's worst fears about the movement. But supporting right wing racists is definitely worth any resulting harm to women and girls #majormajorsarcasm

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 18:55

Me sharing my view that women have a right to go to whatever legal marches they want to and possibly even listen to people I don't agree with exercising their right to free speech is <checks notes> massively discrediting GC feminism?

I think you need a lie down Cassie

That isn't your view. Your view is clearly "nothing to see here" about feminists being on a Tommy Robinson march.

If you can't understand why other people might find that shocking and repellant you need some time away from the right wing Internet resetting into human society.

CassieMaddox · 05/06/2024 19:00

Anyway. It's as much as I can take again. Enjoy your moral superiority in supporting women on far right marches.

At least now I guess it's very clear exactly what "FWR"s attitude to the far right is. Just "freedom of speech".

This all reminds me of Amazon's "people who like this lovely tasteful item also like this disgusting thing that you wouldn't touch with a bargepole" (minor paraphrase).

Datun · 05/06/2024 19:13

This is not a "ooh the evil soc fems hate KJK and her friends" issue.

of course it bloody is. Who else would know who Aja was if she wasn't connected to KJK???

It's your only issue, Cassie. You know nothing about anyone else unless they're connected to KJK.

Note the advice to the gallant counter-protestors to travel early as otherwise they might have to use the same loos as the fascists..

Oh my God. Of course it's bloody freedom of speech!

Do you understand what freedom of speech actually means???

You can jump up and down all you like about Aja because she knows KJK, but for the love of God do not pretend that freedom of speech only means speech you approve of.

Because that's less than half a fucking sentence.

kim jong un GIF

The three o clock scold is running on a bit for you Tinsel. You need to carry an emergency jam buttie for such occasions and keep your strength up while the list of thought crimes is read out.

It's all very Kim Jong Un.

Anyone else spotted on the infamous rally?
