Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

1000 replies

eatfigs · 04/06/2024 11:40

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

https://x.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1796931835823362392

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

I'm following the thread of the posters thought experiment. 'Why didn't they leaflet at XXX?' Given that pride was mentioned the implication was they wouldn't because they wouldn't be well received. Maybe you're right, maybe the original poster was trying to imply instead 'something bad' about Muslims. Who knows.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that in a thread where the OP is suggesting people will draw conclusions about the relationship between 'GC feminism' & the far right, all the posts suggesting other possible leafleteer/rally combinations suggest that the ones that might happen would happen because the 2 parties have a lot in common, while the ones that wouldn't happen where they have little in common.

It was you who said the reception to the leaflets at a pro hamas rally would be frosty. Not the previous poster.

You still haven't answered why you presumed the reception would be frosty?

MalagaNights · 05/06/2024 15:34

BackToLurk · 05/06/2024 15:13

I think there are a lot of double-standards on all sides tbh. I can't talk for anyone else, but I'd draw all kinds of negative conclusions about people who 'went near' certain left-wing rallies or individuals. I'm never particularly impressed by anyone who bigs up George 'bad sexual etiquette' Galloway, for example, even if he apparently 'knows what a woman is'

Edited

Actually the Palestine marches are a good example here.

Why is there not such outrage at women going on those marches alongside some who support terrorism, support for regimes where there are no womens's rights and high levels of homophobia.

TR fans worse to march alongside than Hamas supporters?

If KJK went to a Palestien rally would all this 'distancing' from 'dangerous' people go on?
Nope.

Datun · 05/06/2024 15:38

I have no idea who, exactly, would be put off opposing gender ideology by realising that Aja was at a Tommy Robinson rally.

But I do know that the people who publicise any possible reason to be put off are those who also claim to be GC (or whatever their preferred term is).

They always seem to agree that gender ideology is a bad idea, and then disagree to the point of insanity with the way women go about saying it. Hiding under the fucking pretence that the message is getting tainted when it is them doing the tainting.

Personally I don't have much of an opinion about Aja being there, because without context, I'm not informed enough.

I'm pretty certain she's not a homophobic racist though.

TinselAngel · 05/06/2024 15:54

It's a sign of how insular we can be in GC world, that anyone thinks that any member of the general public is likely to give a shiny shite what Lippy and Aja do at the weekend.

In this recent rash of 'discredit KJK' threads, the double standards seem to be all on one side.

False equivalence, bad company argument, exaggeration and downright lies about what she has said/ done, all with the clear intention to discredit. I'm not seeing any of the same 'logic' being applied to the trans rights supporters by the same posters. Hence double standard.

I'm not seeing any evidence of this 'both sides' of which you speak.

My plea is that both 'sides' of the argument are given the same consideration, under the same 'rules'.

I'm making a very specific point; I'm not taking about how much I support or don't support various players in recent events.

Again, if the comment doesn't apply to you, then it wasn't directed at you 🤷‍♀️

I don't like George Galloway much either.

But don't feel the need to worry about, or start threads about, people who I agree with on other things who do like George Galloway.

Don't you see how odd that would be?

I just want to say how much I despise self righteous witch hunters of all political persuasions. I hope you're proud of yourselves.

However a major part of my distress lately has been caused by factors within the Terf movement itself (and I don't mean from TRAs although years of facing them have taken its toll). I mean "friendly fire" and hurts the worst.I am just an ordinary woman who gets up and on the bus before the crack of dawn to go & bust my arse at my minimum wage job, come home to my council house flat that I am being priced out of, eat the dinner that got from the food bank because I can't afford the supermarket, log on to tweet read some death threats, log off go to bed and start again and then I add in terfing when/wherever I can.I'm not a Leader of a group I'm not somebody who has influenced with politicians or the media. They would never speak to somebody like me. I'm not in this to make a career for myself. I wasn't in this to make a name for myself either but It kinda just happened even tho I am actually quite an introvert. So this whole thing has been wild for me but I have tried by best to do what I can for the movement.

Plus the irony of bringing up "free speech" when KJK leaflets are being used to shut down free speech in schools and censor reading materials because of "the cult".

I know you’ve hidden the thread @CassieMaddox, but if you really think that opposing the teaching of gender ideology in schools (and by extension transing kids, mostly girls, many autistic, behind their parents’ backs) is an attack on free speech you’re no better than a TRA.

If we're going with thought experiments, you could also try what would have happened if the black lesbian and her girlfriend had walked past the rally holding hands, but without the leaflets.

There would have been no problem at all.

Bloody hell. Aja is that amazing women who does the poetry??
I didn't know who we were talking about!

She's been driven off twitter by other women because she went to a TR march? For reasons they are not aware of?

Fools.

CassieMaddox · 05/06/2024 18:11

She's been "driven off twitter" (slunk off in shame more like) because she's been at a TR march, posted stuff about it as per the tweet above (I think she says "you can be brown and still support your country, under a picture of her at the march). When I looked at her Twitter it was full of the kind of anti-Muslim tweets you might expect from someone who goes to TR marches.

As a reminder, the receipts are here - https://x.com/HanoverHussy/status/1797919656071852235

This is not a "ooh the evil soc fems hate KJK and her friends" issue. This is a "what kind of so-called-feminist goes on TR rallies?" issue. And a "what kind of feminist supports people who go on Tommy Robinson's rallies?" issue.

Incidentally I see Harry from Fair Cop was also at the march 😱

I think banning books is worse censorship than being against far fight fascist rallies, yes.

I'm very surprised you don't....sunlight and all that.

All that hiding and unhiding the thread must be laborious.

It was march about 2 tier policing. I'm not suprised Fair Cop was there.

Nope.

Maybe you need to go check out the ME board to see what people say about those protests. Protesters on those marchers are getting a lot more censure about that, than these women are about Tommy Robinson. Which is like living in a parallel universe.

"Protesting a war killing millions of women and children is hateful, but attending a rally held by a convicted far right racist thug is freedom of speech" Confused

It's less stressful than reading posters I previously respected being relaxed about far right rallies.

I support anyone to go to any rally they fucking want to. Because I'm not some sort of narc maniac.

I remember when leftist darling Billy Bragg (who I was a fan of at the time) did a campaign about reclaiming the flag, saying pretty much the same as Aja is saying there.

Was it really? Or was it the normal TR hate filled far right bilge?
