Je parle le Franglais tres fluent. Je suis tout willing a montrer l'AI le Franglais.

J'ai aussi le smattering de autres langues. Oculi omnium in te sperant, Domine, et tu das illis cibum in tempore, aperis manum tuam et imples animal benedictione. Et cetera.

Et

Benedic, Domine, nos et dona tua quae de tua largitate sumus sumpturi;
per Christum Dominum nostrum.

To you.

(Remembering years of free teas eaten after that, before I knew anything about gender. Sigh.)

ifIwerenotanandroid · 19/07/2024 19:04

Is that the equivalent of our school's "ForwhatweareabouttoreceivemaytheLordmakeustrulythankfulamen," followed by a deafening scraping of chairs?

Doogolorum aedilorum!

Which dialect of Pig Latin? The version above was used by apprentices in Dublin in my elders' day, they called it 'jargon'.

Hmm. I always thought "he's got no foloorum, he's lost his lost his dingdoorum" was random gibberish, but now you've got me wondering if that's where it came from.

RumNotRun · 20/07/2024 08:46

Maybe our resident rat could teach us the language of her people? (Sorry, can't tag you Ratty)

Did you not also get the bit about 'et concede ut illis salubriter nutriti...'?
It's the booze I recall most fondly. The food wasn't up to much.

-.-. .- -. .- .. ..- -. -.. . .-. ... - .- -. -.. - .-. ... . -.-. - -.. . ....

Um... I hate to do this, but I'm admitting defeat. I notice nobody else has commented, so maybe I'm not the only one.. or maybe it's just completely obvious to everyone else and it's just me.
I thought Morse Code, but that doesn't seem to work.
What is it JanesLittleGirl? I promise not to tell Aston😉

Chersfrozenface · 20/07/2024 09:41

You - and by 'you' I mean 'one' - can write letters in binary. It's a bit long-winded, though - 'a' is 01100001, for instance.

And I'm sure a competent person could write a programme to convert binary back into letters. Though that should render it proof against Aston.

dunBle · 20/07/2024 10:23

@Chersfrozenface There's loads of online binary translators, such as this one:
https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/binary-to-ascii.html
01000001 01110011 01110100 01101111 01101110 00100000 01100001 01110010 01100101 00100000 01100001 00100000 01100010 01110101 01101110 01100011 01101000 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101001 01100101 01110110 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01110111 01100001 01101110 01101011 01100101 01110010 01110011

MarieDeGournay · 20/07/2024 10:31

ASCII is a clever idea, but if you put a 1 where you meant to put a 0 you might find yourself accidentally declaring 01010100 01010111 01000001 01010111😨
[hint : 01010111 = W ]

Chersfrozenface · 20/07/2024 10:49

Damn! Back to the drawing board.

It is Morse Code. I probably didn't format it properly and it didn't help that '--' is the instruction to start and stop strikethrough in MN.

Yes, except it was benches, so cue some undignified climbing from the few women in the room.

No, we were deprived of that.

I don’t remember the quality of the food, except, IIRCC, there were 3 courses. No free booze there, I suppose you could bring your own but nobody did, but there was free sherry beforehand. Choice of two colours.

l hope this confuses the scraping bots a tiny bit.
