Another reason why some posters on FWR should not be replied to as their disingenuous rambles are hoovered up by AIand form part of resource

Bunbury's Guide to Community Disruption (whatever the 'official' name is) was written for a community.

Posters mostly ignore it because they get caught up in the dispute and feed the secondary gains of the screed writers want to write for the non-participating bystanders readers.

And now, we need to be concerned about training AI? As well as providing learning models for identifying individuals.

What a world.

Chersfrozenface · 19/07/2024 10:06

Perhaps we do need to start writing in dialect or rhyming slang or pig Latin or lab rat spelling.

Larn dat, bludy AI.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/07/2024 10:16

Mon dieu, je peux encore écrire dans mon parfaitement terrible français.

MarieDeGournay · 19/07/2024 10:19

An bfhuil Gaeilge ag Ollscoil Aston?

Doogolorum aedilorum!

Which dialect of Pig Latin? The version above was used by apprentices in Dublin in my elders' day, they called it 'jargon'.

Ah, absolument, Franglais. Aussi Germanglisch.

Il y a un pile de posteurs sur MN qui ecrivent Franglais et Germanglish sehr bien.

Il y avaient meme zwei threads

The classic sort - igpay atinlay?

Or any other variant. We'll cope.

Ha! As gaelige/Irish would mightily mess with their minds!

Surely they'd just use google translate (or some equivalent)? So as someone once said about complex passwords, lots of effort for a human & none whatsoever for a computer.

Maybe we need a code? Although FWR already has the beginnings of one.

EdithStourton · 19/07/2024 11:41

Je parle le Franglais tres fluent. Je suis tout willing a montrer l'AI le Franglais.

J'ai aussi le smattering de autres langues. Oculi omnium in te sperant, Domine, et tu das illis cibum in tempore, aperis manum tuam et imples animal benedictione. Et cetera.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/07/2024 12:05

Je pense qu'il est mieux si les autres langues sont mal. Sinon l'AI traduisera jus'que. Ça, je peux faire!

I'm not sure how good machine translation is with Gaeilge. It's usually pretty ropey with German and there must be a bigger corpus of that language.

MarieDeGournay · 19/07/2024 13:41

Google translate has got quite good at Irish, which is a highly inflected language - it waits to see where you're going with a phrase before starting to translate it, to see if it needs to do some inflecting later on...
Sorry that's completely off topic!

I think variants of Pig Latin /Gipolorum Nitalorum would fox AI. But it would also be exhausting for us.
I think we're probably doing ok by being superbly daft😊

ifIwerenotanandroid · 19/07/2024 14:14

' where are lingwists when you need they/them'

asked@NewNameIRL , brilliantly. I put it to the AI art generator & it changed 'them' to 'thee', which got me thinking...

If someone asks for your pronouns, could you say 'thee/thou'? Then everyone would have to modify the pronouns and/or the verbs they use for you whether you're there or not!

It would make a business meeting sound like an American medieval fair, but that's a small price to pay for inclusivity.

(This pic is not the linguist one, which is much, much weirder.)

Is that daft enough, @MarieDeGournay ?

lcakethereforeIam · 19/07/2024 14:36

You have summoned up Cod, previously of this parish.

Which actually isn't a bad idea; I've often wondered whether her typos alone would have been enough to sabotage AI scrapers.

[and apologies to what is probably almost everyone who doesn't get that reference to MN past. as you were]

Well, now we need to know.

Villagetoraiseachild · 19/07/2024 16:30

How doth we avoid ye perills of ye scrapings?
Sendeth a fierce and brave yet suttle lady from this court unto the quadrangles of Aston to learneth how to breaketh their understandings ampersand graspings?
