What I'm finding really interesting is that so many of the TRAs seem to have completely failed to grasp the mechanism and implications of this Act.

I see people on Twitter currently openly attacking people for their age, sexuality, race, political beliefs, religion, etc. Under their real names. They are flinging insults about as if they are untouchable.

They don't seem to understand that they are just as reportable as anyone else.

I mean to be fair to not very bright TRAs, they've had reason to believe that they are untouchable. So far.

LakeTiticaca · 01/04/2024 14:48

I would interested to know who will be protecting the vulnerable from rapes, assaults, murder, robberies, drug dealing and burglaries while Police Scotland are investigating all the hurty feelz.
Have they really nothing more important to be getting on with?
Who takes priority, an elderly lady beaten and robbed in her own home or someone who doesn't like someone else's opinion?

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 01/04/2024 14:49

So if TRAs disturb LWS events and shout kill terfs, will that be a hate crime?

To me it's an incredibly apt and appropriate visual metaphor for the whole shitshow of SNP leadership, and what it's done to Scotland.
An out of his depth clueless moron thinking he's clever and inevitably comedicly faceplanting. At least on the scooter he knows he fucked up, but as for the effect on Scotland I think he's got his head up his arse. There's this very modern cart before the horse effect that seems to me to be getting ever stronger. The assumption that "I'm good for the people of Scotland, therefore everything I do is good" and a complete disregard for loooking back at your track record and thinking "Did I really make things better?" When they cock stuff up to the point it can't be ignored, and their first thought is they are the ones best suited to fix it. No, you made the problem, you are the problem, stand aside and let someone competent have a go.
The mealy mouthed wishy washy defenses of the new hate crime law quoted on other threads here is an example. They clearly know from their evasive answers that it's very unpopular, impossible to enforce, overly broad, shuts down free speech, etc... but they are in too deep to just admit how much they cocked up. They thought it would be a great way to score politcal points, but it's hugely damaging to both them and the people of Scotland, and the clueless authoritarian midwits who came up with it are unfortunately the best minds they have. I cannot wait for Scotalnd to be freed from the incompetence and corruption of the disgraced SNP.

No, you made the problem, you are the problem

sums it up perfectly.

Tropics4 · 01/04/2024 14:52

Oops! Just read the whole thread. So everyone is protected against this new law except actual women?!!! Took a while to sink in. So if I state I'm a real woman, xx chromosomes and all that unnecessary detail - as opposed to just putting on a dress and lipstick then I have committed hate speech?

I wonder whether the police will go for her?

They'll have to,won't they? Either way the sunlight will help as when people call for her to get nicked, they should be forced to say why: and that's when the emperor is seen with his winkie out

There are times when it seems as if those with the Sacred Caste Carapace seem to think it acts like a Faraday Cage for all other PCs and keeps them at the top of the vulnerability hierarchy which exempts them from considering other PCs. Or the needs and perspectives of others.

The Clypes Charter is to be used only by TRAs and no-one else. And they can clype on anyone for anything and anywhere but the converse doesn't apply. I must get that clear in my head.

SerendipityJane · 01/04/2024 14:54

I can see advertisers on twitter will be concerned that this frothing is harming their investment. The more noise the less signal.

Violetparis · 01/04/2024 14:59

JKR didn't disappoint today, what a magnificant woman.

There are people on Twitter currently making reports of women for saying much the same.

when the emperor is seen with her winkie out, you bigot !

You have to admire JKR’s strategic thinking. Many people will be looking at her Twitter account today to see what she says. How many will she have peaked and how difficult to report her for this list of convicted sex offenders and chancers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2024 14:28

Pretty sure what Willoughby did there could count as "stirring up hatred" against the trans community. It doesn't matter that Willoughby is trans themselves, see Helen Islan v Miranda Yardley.

Yup. Willoughby is clearly suggesting all the trans women on that thread are sex offenders which to my knowledge is untrue.

I do hope someone has reported them to the Scottish police.

Them lot of hIgh profile G C ers have a cunning plan already cooked up in the cauldron me thinks.

If you haven’t seen it, this is worth a read.

Yes. It does make me admire her afresh.

It's striking me quite how intricate a thought process you have to have, to be able to contest this in the clever, funny way she does.

Always at least one step ahead, and the comments she makes often have so few words, but with many extra layers really upping the impact.

Unsurprising really given the multi layered aspects to her books.

She's an instinctive writer.

But when you add the logic, the compassion, and the wisdom, it's so much more than that.

mrshoho · 01/04/2024 15:19

JKR gets my grateful thanks and my full admiration. She could so easily live her life in a blissful peaceful bubble where she could ignore this madness. Instead she bravely stands up for women and girls and is not afraid to point out the truth even when speaking the truth now puts her at risk of breaking Scottish Law. Thank you JK. Your words have never been so important to fight this.

Anyone can report. I've already reported IW for a homophobic post.

In Scotland, the offence online takes place when is published (ie read) not when it is posted. So the offence takes place when Police Scotland read it. And it can be reported by multiple people.

You can use the form they supply to report anonymously online.

Thank you JKR.

As far as I can see

  • if the police don't arrest then they can't arrest anyone
  • they do, the shitshow will be epic.

👏👏👏👏👏

I think you sadly underestimate the capacity of official bodies to behave spitefully and downright illegally if they think they can get away with it.

Police Scotland said it had not received any complaints over the posts.

Try turning it off and on again.
