Liz Truss crosses the golden bridge

Hoardasurass · 10/03/2024 10:12

It would seem that Liz Truss has joined us on the dark side with her private members bill, which will be introduced on Friday.😱
The bill would see sex defined as biological sex only, ban cross sex hormones for minors and potentially ban all males from female single sex spaces and sports.
Quite some turn around for someone who wanted to bring in legal self-id

Liz Truss - my trans Bill will protect children

Liz Truss is preparing to present a draft law that will challenge Rishi Sunak to ban the prescription of "body-altering hormones" to children "questioning their sex".

I thought Liz Truss was always against self ID.
Wasn't it Penny Mordaunt who was TWAW?
Am I misremembering?

This is my recollection too.

LargeSquareRock · 10/03/2024 10:16

I thought Liz Truss was always gender critical. Is it Penny Mordaunt you are thinking about?

happydappy2 · 10/03/2024 10:17

Why not just repeal the GRA as well?

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 10:17

Ooh! I saw an article in the Telegraph, I posted links in the General Conversations thread, and there was an article in the Times that I haven't read yet.

WallaceinAnderland · 10/03/2024 10:19

I've done a thread about this too at exactly the same time! I'll get mine deleted.

One step at a time?

WaterWeasel · 10/03/2024 11:22

Truss has never been pro self id as far as I recall? Mordaunt and May - different story.

Froodwithatowel · 10/03/2024 11:25

Leaving the GRA intact but closing the loopholes and adding the additional legislation that protects the equality of women and children may be an easier and gentler way to achieve the same result in the short term than repealing the GRA.

But yes, it needs to go.

Woman2023 · 10/03/2024 11:50

Fully support this bill.

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 12:00

I think it's worthwhile writing to your MP, even if they're in thrall to genderwoo, asking them to support this bill. I'm seriously thinking of contacting mine (Tory in a LD target seat), saying I'm a single issue voter when it comes to this. I always said I would cut my hand off before I'd vote Tory. But here we are.

Helleofabore · 10/03/2024 12:36

I thought Truss was very clear in her support. When did she believe otherwise? Did I miss it?

Runningwildish · 10/03/2024 12:41

Excellent news

Cosmosforbreakfast · 10/03/2024 12:43

Truss has always been against self ID and on the side of women's rights to single, private and safe spaces. It's one more step in the right direction.

Gingernaut · 10/03/2024 12:48

Proof that even that batshit mare can sometimes get something right, but oh my days, why are so many of our allies in the fight against the GRA or Self ID such swivel eyed loons

If they're "pro woman" in this regard, why are they so gonzo on other issues to do with women's rights

Affordable childcare, abortion rights, surrogacy, divorce - all these issues are ignored, but Self ID gets them exercised

AutumnCrow · 10/03/2024 12:54

Liz Truss refused to bring in self-ID in a Commons statement, that led to her being shouted at by Crispin Blunt MP in a very revealing way. Blunt indicated that it was all supposed to have been stitched up in backroom agreements.

Tory MPs who were happy to go along with self-ID, apart from Blunt, were (disappointingly) mostly female; Mordaunt, May, Rudd, N Morgan, Miller and Nokes were the big hitters.

If it weren't for Truss during her tenure as Minister for Women and Equalities, we'd be right up shit creek.

The rhyming slang just writes itself, doesn't it?

Does anyone know an official source, rather than newspapers, which explains what the bill is about exactly? Is the draft made public anywhere? I'd like to read more before I contact my local MP. Thanks.

CharmedCult · 10/03/2024 15:27

There’s been no turnaround here.

Liz Truss has always been pro-reality.

Doyouthinkeirsaurus · 10/03/2024 16:16

It is a Private Members Bill, and they rarely get through to making law. I will message my Tory MP to ask them to support.

I think the interesting part of this will be flushing out the Labour Party, who says what, and how they vote.

Doyouthinkeirsaurus · 10/03/2024 16:24

I’m so sick of ALL of this and don’t wish to derail this thread, but whilst reading and adding to this thread, I can hear BBC R4 is questioning Daphne du Maurier’s gender, and how her writing would suggest she moved across the Genders as the whim took her. (précied)

coureur · 10/03/2024 16:34

Interesting that people are supporting the bill without having read it. Not that you can read it as Lazy Liz hasn’t even bothered to upload it to bills.parliament.uk despite having had since December to do so.
https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3560

It’s not even on her website which makes me think that this more about self-promotion (articles in the Express, Telegraph and Times, so job done) than it is about protecting women and children.

DadJoke · 10/03/2024 16:36

Surely “I stand with Liz Truss” is enough to make you have a rethink?

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 16:39

I stand with Isla Bryson is perfectly okay with the gender lot though!?
