Liz Truss crosses the golden bridge

Hoardasurass · 10/03/2024 10:12

It would seem that Liz Truss has joined us on the dark side with her private members bill, which will be introduced on Friday.😱
The bill would see sex defined as biological sex only, ban cross sex hormones for minors and potentially ban all males from female single sex spaces and sports.
Quite some turn around for someone who wanted to bring in legal self-id

Liz Truss - my trans Bill will protect children

Liz Truss is preparing to present a draft law that will challenge Rishi Sunak to ban the prescription of "body-altering hormones" to children "questioning their sex".

Interesting that people are supporting the bill without having read it. Not that you can read it as Lazy Liz hasn’t even bothered to upload it to bills.parliament.uk despite having had since December to do so.
https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3560

It’s not even on her website which makes me think that this more about self-promotion (articles in the Express, Telegraph and Times, so job done) than it is about protecting women and children.

Tbh I don't mind about her motivation behind promoting the bill, it's the content that matters. I think I might email her office.

I stand with Isla Bryson is perfectly okay with the gender lot though!?

That’s as ridiculous as saying that cisgender people stand with Lucy Letby.

Walkingtheplank · 10/03/2024 16:44

Whatever you think about Liz Truss, she has been consistent on this issue. She even included this in her leadership campaign.

Theunamedcat · 10/03/2024 16:45

I want to read the bill

Theunamedcat · 10/03/2024 16:47

Honestly I think its an election year and they might think a toothless piece of legislation which will have zero effect on anything or anyone will do the trick and get them closer to the finish line

DadJoke · 10/03/2024 16:50

I think she wants to amend the EqA to exclude transgender people from all single sex spaces which match their acquired sex. The status quo is they are included, but can be excluded under limited circumstances.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 10/03/2024 10:15

I thought Liz Truss was always against self ID.
Wasn't it Penny Mordaunt who was TWAW?
Am I misremembering?

Yes Truss was the one who stopped self ID on 2020
as equalities minister

BezMills · 10/03/2024 16:58

Politics makes strange bedfellows. Liz Truss doesn't impress me at all, but if we agree on one thing then so be it.

Floisme · 10/03/2024 17:20

I think the interesting part of this will be flushing out the Labour Party, who says what, and how they vote.

Agree @Doyouthinkeirsaurusd. I know Private Members Bills rarely get very far and I've not read this one either so I can't judge yet. But, if it turns out that it's well drafted but that Labour are too tribal or too scared of the Liz Truss effect to support it, then that will be very telling indeed.

Good. We want our single sex spaces back. And no one can 'acquire' a sex. But you know this.

Ok - you stand with the likes of India Willoughby.

guinnessguzzler · 10/03/2024 17:32

Liz 'women do have vaginas, Nick' Truss? Good to see this bill, I doubt it will get far but it should encourage more conversation and thought on the issues, which can only be a good thing.

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 17:43

Lucy Letby is a murderer. Her ideology, if she has one, is not shared by anyone on this thread.

As well as being a rapist Isla Bryson is a believer in gender ideology. Liz Truss is not 'guilty' of anything. I know, of the two, who I'd rather stand with.

Snowypeaks · 10/03/2024 17:52

Gender zealots defend Scarlet Blake's, Isla Bryson's, Andrew Miller's, Chris Chan's "right" to dictate how others, including the courts, their victims and their families, refer to them - and hold that "right" as more important than the rights and feelings of the victims and families and the freedom of others who do not subscribe to gender ideology to speak the truth.
Nobody defends the right of Lucy Letby to anything except a fair trial and humane treatment, which is a right everybody has, however heinous their crime.

CurlewKate · 10/03/2024 17:55

I thought for one moment that she had died. But that's the rainbow bridge, isn't it?

Where have you seen the bill? It hasn’t been uploaded to the Parliament website yet which is pretty shocking 5 days before second reading.

Mine too. Glad it's not just my brain which went there! 😳

Postsynapticdensity · 10/03/2024 18:08

This is not good, Liz Truss has no credibility left
Not the person I want to represent our views

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/03/2024 18:12

For the love of goodness. There isn't a single person alive on the planet today I'd agree with on every single issue. I've never voted Tory in my life and have no plans to start, but shock horror I don't think they're wrong on everything, any more than I think any other party is right or wrong on every issue. This ridiculous partisan I'm-on-the-left-so-I-have-to-agree-with-every-batshit-pronouncement-of-my-fellow-leftists is how we got into this mess. On this one issue, it sounds as if I agree with Liz Truss. There may be the other odd issue we agree on too, who knows?

If you’re waiting for someone from Labour? I assume

You won’t have any women’s sex based rights bill

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 18:16

@Postsynapticdensity Flowers I sympathise. Yet here we are.

duc748 · 10/03/2024 18:17

As private members bills almost always are dependent on the Govt for support to pass into law, surely the first question is, will Sunak green-light this? I'd have thought almost certainly no.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2024 18:27

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 12:00

I think it's worthwhile writing to your MP, even if they're in thrall to genderwoo, asking them to support this bill. I'm seriously thinking of contacting mine (Tory in a LD target seat), saying I'm a single issue voter when it comes to this. I always said I would cut my hand off before I'd vote Tory. But here we are.

I can confidently say that my chocolate teapot of an SNP MP would have no reaction to my contact other than to perhaps twitch slightly.

guinnessguzzler · 10/03/2024 18:27

@coureur I could have been clearer; I meant 'good to see this Bill being proposed, based on the summary in the linked article'. I haven't read the Bill yet either. I very much look forward to reading it though and, based on the article, it sounds like something I would support. So in general this news sounds positive to me (and no, I didn't hear it; I read it, that was just a figure of speech).
