Same again in the Mail but with the background of Rosie Duffield's previous complaints about Eddie being on any all-woman shortlist and why the she pronoun is being used.

Gosh, and this new potential constituency meant so very much to Izzard (which is exactly what was said to the Sheffield Central Labour Party voters too before candidate selection there).

So after a great long thread slagging off Eddie Izzard for standing in Brighton I can see this will be a great long thread slagging him off for not winning and no doubt transphobic and vile like the last one.

Since when was Eddie trans? Must have missed him appropriating that whilst he was appropriating womanhood.

Eddie has always been trans……. transvestite. He used to declare it on most of his DVDs.

Anybody who voted for someone who was going to then disappear to ny for 3 months to do gigs or whatever is an idiot. This is a victory for basic common sense against eddies incredible entitlement.

I've not paid much attention to this, but I did look at the BBC report which seem to say the bloke who won and Eddie came above two female councillors in the local area, who clearly have been there putting in the work in rather than just turning up and being voted in, which I thought was disappointing, although I don't know whether there are broader issues there. I used to live in Brighton and I was thrilled when Caroline Lucas got elected as a Green Party member since I was 20, but I'm really sad to say that I really hope that Sian Berry doesn't get it after her behaviour in the party.

God that bbc article. I went looking for the info on who placed where and found this. Really depressing that 2 women were voted in the bottom 2 places.

I used to live in Sheffield Central constituency and it absolutely was not ideal Izzard territory. There's been an influx of students in the past couple of years who may well have voted for him, but the core constituency - no. They're far too sensible and would see straight through him.

What? Brighton didn't lap him up? I'm astonished! I thought that was the reason he targeted that constituency! If Brighton doesn't want him he's got no hope!

Izzard is a man, which he has acknowledged often in the past, and I will call him so. When I look at him, I see someone dressed entirely inappropriately for the tasks in hand, I hear someone who is self-obsessed, self-congratulatory and has little regard for others. I don't think he has a single quality that I'd want in my representative in Parliament. This is not because he is 'trans' (in his own estimation) per se, but because of his character.

The whole idea of the local party selecting a candidate is they pick someone who they think will get enough votes to be elected

I honestly can't tell whether you are writing ironically, as you call Izzard 'him'. Do you think he's a woman?

I suppose maybe the other candidate fought a better race. Izzard's non-local status: recent failure in Yorkshire; and other commitments would have been gifts to any rival campaign.
