Did you just use the wrong pronouns? Tut tut

he very recently said he didn't mind people using either. which is just as well given that he's a bloke who calls himself Eddie.

Theunamedcat · 18/12/2023 08:11

Used to like him when be said these aren't women's clothes these are MY clothes (which pretty much sums up my feelings on clothes) but this new eddie/Suze keep my man bits and add in womans tits no just no

CyberCritical · 18/12/2023 08:12

While Eddie continues to 'Boy mode' for more lucrative business deals and acting parts I will point blank refuse to even consider the possibility that Eddie is a Trans Woman.

Eddie has jumped on what they have seen as a lucrative opportunity to be relevant.

NotBadConsidering · 18/12/2023 08:20

Eddie is just as much a trans woman as any other man who claims to be one.

I think he/she/they/them/it/what? is in "pillock mode" these days

I am delighted that my stereotypical view of Brighton Pavilion CLP has been thoroughly trashed.

But really I don't think any party in any constituency is ever thrilled when a celebrity candidate is parachuted in. The only exception I can think of was Glenda Jackson.

CurlewKate · 18/12/2023 08:32

Izzard used to be such a fantastic spokesperson for gender non-conformity "these aren't women's clothes-they are my clothes".....

HPFA · 18/12/2023 08:35

I don't think Eddie Izzard is likely to get selected anywhere.

The sniffy comments about local campaigners in Sheffield, the possibility of being absent from the campaign in Brighton if the election timing was "wrong"....these factors will all count against.

Other candidates who are hopping around constituencies aren't having much luck either - Paul Mason for Labour and Sebastian Payne for the Tories have similar stories to Eddie. I'm sure I read somewhere that Labour are leaning very much into choosing local candidates - although can't find the link so maybe I just imagined it!

The most likely reason Izzard won’t get selected anywhere is because he’s turned into a massive prick and everyone can see it.

Glenda Jackson gave up acting when she went into politics. Sounds like Izzard hasn’t committed to doing that (or nobody believes he will).

KitchenDancefloor · 18/12/2023 08:42

Eddie is now 61 and has been spectacularly unsuccessful in launching a political career since he (correct pronoun at the time) announced that he would be concentrating on politics over comedy on the Jonathan Ross show about 10-15 years ago.

I think he really thought at that point he would rise through the ranks and become a statesman-like figure. There seems very little in what he said then or since about wanting to make a difference in grassroots politics.

Do you think he has got the message yet or will his sense of entitlement keep him plugging away at this into his dotage?

Nailed!!

PronounssheRa · 18/12/2023 08:48

He has failed to get voted onto the NEC twice and failed to be selected as a GE candidate twice.

I wonder if he thought his donations to the Labour Party would ease his path.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/12/2023 08:54

Excellent. Does Tom know what a woman is?

Was she parachuted in or did she already live locally, or at least local-ish? North London feels like natural territory for someone like Jackson.

What a shame.

DarkDayforMN · 18/12/2023 09:10

Do people think he’d have succeeded if he weren’t claiming he’s a “woman”?

I can’t tell if it’s a big factor or if it was more that he’s arrogant and doing local politics badly.

Startingagainandagain · 18/12/2023 09:16

I think it was arrogant and entitled of him to just assume he could suddenly do politics and move straight away into being a potential MP for a place he has no specific link or knowledge of...

Most candidates will have a track record of being activists and of involving themselves in local activities/campaigns.

I think the latter.

The people doing the selection won’t have been GC unless they are all very undercover. I also suspect that even with any that were, if party politics are that important to them they might be willing to suppress their feelings on that one for somebody they think will win and make a good mp. But he’s not put up a very good show.

CoatOfArms · 18/12/2023 09:19

Paperwhiteflowers · 18/12/2023 01:28

So after a great long thread slagging off Eddie Izzard for standing in Brighton I can see this will be a great long thread slagging him off for not winning and no doubt transphobic and vile like the last one.

Did you just misgender Eddie?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/12/2023 09:20

I think Glenda lived in Blackheath in SE London all the time she was an MP. Not that far from the constituency.

IdealHomeExhibition · 18/12/2023 09:31

Good

Floisme · 18/12/2023 09:36

Yes I think Glenda Jackson was a reasonably local candidate and, as another poster has pointed out, gave up the stage for politics. I hadn't realised Eddie Izzard hadn't undertaken to do the same Shock What an incredibly arrogant attitude - hardly surprising if no constituency is impressed.
