I dunno. Males with DSDs and transwomen are surely a tiny proportion (now!). I'm not convinced it's a big problem for FIFA. Sure, a few nations might kick up, and it's more likely to be poorer countries like Zambia than Germany, UK, US. But I don't see that that would have FIFA quaking in their boots.

They are being mainstreamed into big leagues, like the NWSL (US) now. Banda's team was 7th last year. It's no. 1 since he's joined. It's at the point where it's impacting hundreds of female players in one of the best leagues in the world.

Zambia actually beat Germany in a friendly last year, a team much, much better than them. It was basically Banda outpacing the German women the whole game. Fortunately, Germany figured out how to beat them at the Olympics, but the game against Australia was much closer than it should have been.

The fact that ONE male* on a women's team can have such a huge impact should be enough of warning siren to FIFA that it can't be allowed to continue.

BBC today. Don't mention the elephant

How anyone can look at that picture and not think "huh?" is beyond me.

Honestly, any of the women on that list are worth a vote. Aitana Bonmati won the Ballon D'or last year and both she and Caroline Graham Hansen are considered front runners for it this year.

Girma and Smith were both part of the US team that won the Olympic gold medal a few months ago.

I voted for Hansen.

Voted for Naomi - after reading her bio 👍🏼
Hard choice though

Girma is my choice, too. Fantastic player.

The Zambia captain scored four goals at Paris 2024, including a first-half hat-trick against Australia, to become Africa's all time top scorer - male or female - in Olympic football history with 10 goals.

Well, that's one way of putting it... 🙄

Sorry, just go for one without a penis, I suppose. I went for Caroline Graham Hansen, simply because I've spent years working in Norway!

So the facial hair has been photoshopped in to make a point? If BB has 5-ARD or CAIS/PAIS, BB would not be able to grow facial hair.

impossibletoday · 16/10/2024 15:19

What happened to the other thread about the BBC woman footballer of the year?

SinnerBoy · 16/10/2024 16:50

It was deleted by MNHQ, unfortunately.

Villagetoraiseachild · 16/10/2024 17:13

Well I will probably vote for Bonmati, based on that shed load of sexist management shit her and her amazing team had to endure and rise above.

Ah feck. I wrote a long and detailed summary of the discussion on DSDs, sex not gender, etc, which we had at the time of the Olympics, as it was obvious that several posters hadn't read that discussion.
Sometimes I remember to copy and save my longer posts, so I don't lose them in to-ing and fro-ing, but I didn't save that one😠
It did strike me as a bit funny that posters were saying 'I know absolutely nothing about footie, so tell me who I should vote for', maybe MN thought it was blatant gerrymandering. Gerrywomandering. Gerrypersondering.Grin

SinnerBoy · 16/10/2024 20:52

Oh dear, I've had similar, where I've accidentally deleted a Russian novel, as I went to post it!

The Guardian piece bangs on about 'transgender athletes', but is it not the case that BB doesn't claim to be trans, just to be a woman, as per Imane Khelif? The job of journalism should be to provide clarity, not to muddy the waters.

yeah, the reader is tempted to sit up and at least half take notice when they seem to almost be about to categorically say that Banda is female, but the article soon reverts to the usual 'sex testing is no good anyway'/'it's all very complicated' drivel before, as you say, senselessly tilting at a straw man in the form of whether BB might be 'trans'.

QAOPspaceman · 30/03/2025 19:15

Damn, I just posted a new thread about this - didn't realise there was an existing one. I agree this piece just muddies the waters, I just whinged about it for longer:

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 30/03/2025 19:20

It's a real mystery, isn't it, why Faz decided not to put her up for testing?

Also note the obligatory racism, in the form of some nonsense about Black people's T levels. 😡
