@Helleofabore
Good points. (Sadly.) Quite a lot has happened since Hubbard and Thomas were in the news and I hope the fact that it is football, that it is one more example, may tip public opinion over the edge and push politicians into a rethink. Although if the public have accepted this unfairness in swimming, which they care about so much... It's a shame Tickle Vs Giggle has not yet been adjudicated.

"Football" here means Australian Rules. That's the popular game. This is soccer in Australian parlance. I don't know how much general attention it will get, mostly because I avoid anything to do with any ball games.

ahhh! Football means different things in different states though. In Queensland and NSW, it is more usually referring to League and /or Union.

However, I have heard soccer followers use ‘football’ and ‘soccer’ interchangeably though, depending on who they are speaking to, if they watch any European games. But soccer is pretty popular in parts of Sydney when you consider it is a safe game for kids. And of course, soccer was once more popular as a sport women could play and have their own team in than cricket or other football. Of course, not as popular as other sports though like netball, hockey, and basketball.

Australia currently being trounced by Banda with a hat trick in the first half. Appalling that FIFA has let this happen and not a single mainstream journo bothering to report on it.

I am just reading the live stream as I cannot see the live game. It sounds like Banda is dominating the game completely. All I can read is Banda Banda Banda on the ABC live feed.

MattDamon · 28/07/2024 19:35

Twitter journos cooing over how amazing 'she' is. Can only hope this brings attention to what is happening.

Oh well, Australia can hardly complain, given its policies.

Just thinking the same. You reap what you sow.

kiterunning · 28/07/2024 20:36

Australia fought back from 2-5 yo win! Yay!
So BB and his hat trick won't help cheating Zambia.
Just hope they lose against Germany now and go home.

duc748 · 28/07/2024 20:41

Just been reading Aussie fans following the game in real time. They seemed unaware about Banda; I wasn't going to say anything (it'd probably get me a ban) and kept schtum.

It impacts more than Australia. They are at the Olympics.

Rachael Kundananji the other Zambian player also failed a sex verification test.

UpThePankhurst · 28/07/2024 21:44

The lengths they are all prepared to go to, lying, fudging, wangling, to enable men to get into women's sports. We're at the point where they know if they do it openly and honestly the public won't take it and the ethics don't stand up, so it's now flat out dishonesty to get those men in there.

The sexism of it is staggering. Greer had it absolutely right: we're starting to see just how much men really do hate women. And how other women know that hating on women like good girls is the path of the Righteous.

ChateauMargaux · 28/07/2024 22:08

Why are no journalists talking about this? The should be calling FIFA and the IOC to account. I wish someone would take them to the court of arbitration for sport.

Abhannmor · 28/07/2024 22:27

This problem will have much more salience if Spain, USA or England are beaten by a team with a couple of Bandas in it.

I didn't know that. This player is the most expensive female footballer in history in terms of a fee paid by a club side.

KiteofUncertainty · 29/07/2024 00:19

FIFA and the IOC have created this awful situation and unscrupulous people are taking advantage of it.

I'm willing to bet it's not just a couple of players, either. It's not just a Zambia thing, or an African thing, or a global south thing. It's everywhere. It hasn't ruined football for me but that's only a matter of time.

The most expensive women's foorball players in history have testoserone levels that fall outside of female range. They have failed sex verification tests required by WAFCON (Women's African Cup of Nations) but neither the IOC, FIFA, Spain nor the USA where they both now play, required players in the female competition to be genetically female.

Another article which in this case uses the phrase 'DSD' https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jul/25/zambias-barbra-banda-create-my-own-name-leave-my-mark

Clear proof that even when there are small numbers of male players in the female game, they have a significant impact... top 2 most expensive players in history!!

Report: Most expensive transfers in women's football history, 2024 - CEOWORLD magazine

The popularity of women’s football has been on the rise, which has led to an increase in transfer fees. Although the amounts are still considerably lower than those seen in men’s football, we can take a look at the most expensive transfers in the histo...

because the ico media reporting guideline prohibits it explicitly.

MrsJamin · 29/07/2024 08:37

The ico media doesn't control social media though does it? Time for everyone to spread news about BB and the TWO boxers, one which is going to hit an italian woman in the olympics on Thursday :(

Correct

bluecomputerscreen · 29/07/2024 08:58

indeed.

I retweet and share as much as I can.
and complain to official news outlets about the inacurate reporting.

kiterunning · 29/07/2024 09:12

Imane Khalif was excluded from the world championship final for 'eligibility reasons'
related to health so we can guess what they were.
Ironic first name.

Guidelines are just that - guidelines.

I suggest that we contact newspapers, BBC etc ahead of the boxing matches.
