Slow hand clap for the male winner of Miss Universe Netherlands 2023. Don't know why women would enter these things anyway but more so than ever a reason to just hand the whole thing to the men from now on.

But only if you think womaning is performing femininity

I don’t, so it’s fine with me for men to compete in ‘how feminine can you be’ competitions

literally the only thing that makes me a woman is my female body, not whether I wish for world peace or look good in a one piece bathing suit

I really don’t see the issue with men getting in on those things too

For some women beauty and elegance does come naturally; many women do have an interest in such things, even if others are not into it at all.

In bodybuilding competitions - which are a huge thing - you have separate male and female categories for a good reason.

If female beauty and grace is being measured, then it should only be females that can take part,

If you want to have a drag show or competition, then it matters not so much the sex of the participant.

Please dont repeat this patronising claptrap. ALL the winners from India are from elite upper middle class, fair skinned groups. These contestants join to build a career, a brand, catch the eye of wealthy men and they use the plight of poor women to build their status. Beauty contest with their Barbie/disneyified beauty standards are welcome to transwomen, the more the better! It is telling that short women, fat women, disabled women, older women do not meet the standards of these "beauty" contests but skinny men do.

Wow, that is me told. And here I was trying to do my best at not viewing everything through my western lens and I still get it wrong, even after stating I think beauty pageants are awful sexist claptrap.

elgreco · 11/07/2023 09:05

It's annoying because he is less pretty than the female contestants, he won because he's male not because he looks better.

What's the point of a beauty contest if the winner is not beautiful?

RebelliousCow · 11/07/2023 09:06

I used to cringe at beauty pageants, and still do really - but I do appreciate beauty. I can appreciate female beauty, and I can certainly appreciate male beauty. Who doesn't like to look at a beautiful person with a beautiful body?

Obviously the feminist issue has always been that women should not just be judged solely according to their appearance or beauty - but In principle there can be no harm in assessing or making judgements about physical beauty or grace. It might not be nice for those of us not so beautiful - but, hey, life is tough.

Personally, the older I get, the more I appreciate youthful beauty.

Explain, please?

if saying "men can't be women" is "literal genocide" (cf several billion tweets etc) then anything that can be called "Female Erasure" is really Literally Literal Genocide (TM)

Genocide is utterly hyperbolic......like most of the tropes around gender ideology.

Female Erasure is when women are disappeared or supplanted, even from their own comeptitions, categories and spaces, by the presence and 'supriority' of men and males purporting to be women.

When women are permitted nothing of their own; nothing that distinguishes them from men.

Brefugee · 11/07/2023 17:05

That is the point i was making. "genocide" from TRAs is utterly hyperbolic.
Female Erasure is a real thing, but you don't see a load of women screeching at men that they are being "genocided by nazis"

Bring back the bikini stage. Let's see what they are really made of! 😂

Yes! Let's get an eyeful of those womanly curves!

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 09/07/2023 19:15

Can they not just have their own category? It's appropriation, again. One woman came second - lost the prize fund and bid for world peace 😉 because a bloke wanted to play dress up. I'm not one for pageants and find the whole industry grotesque to be fair, but appropriation is appropriation.

You are either missing, or highlighting, the point. Validation. Having a seperate category would provide no validation.
How many times have we seen trans women are more/better women than women? e.g. the guy who played a piano with his cock on TV while singing the song "Better Than You" where he explained why he was a better "woman" than women, "my tits will never shrink, I'm guaranteed to squirt, and I do anal by default". Clearly laying out his position on what it is to be a woman, and why he's better at it. Your mileage may vary......

megletthesecond · 12/07/2023 18:19

I heard them on the radio 1 news just now. They decided they were a girl because they liked princess toys. Sexist family strikes again and forces another child to mutilate their body.

MowingTheTerf · 12/07/2023 20:23

If the winner was a biological woman and looked exactly the same they would not have won.

I do not believe that they were judged on the same criteria, but it's been successful hasn't it? Who spoke about Miss World 2022, let alone Miss Netherlands 2022?

They won because they were transgender and how it would be in the headlines. They didn't win it because they were better looking than the other contestants.

And this all reminds me years ago about a BBC documentary about a trans girls attempting to become Miss England, her name was Jackie Green. Little did I know then what was really going on and who was behind it.

I'm not quit sure how much this male individual has done to their body. Well the male bit anyhow. In the daily Mail article, a fulsome lunchbox appears to be is straining through the material of the lower half of the green bikini swimsuit. Obviously the capacious kind designed for males for this very reason

Some males use that strong 'tucking' tape to hold their genitals out of view in some situations. Performance and such.

drhf · 13/07/2023 06:05

Male and female body shapes are different. Trans women are likely to be taller, and their bodies do not have to accommodate female reproductive organs and hips.

The two groups need separate beauty pageants so the - already unmanageable - beauty standards imposed on women do not become further distorted by the promotion of body shapes that are only attainable by biological males.

Chersfrozenface · 10/11/2023 11:21

To be filed under 'Oh dear, what a pity, never mind'.

"Thai owner of Miss Universe goes bankrupt" is the headline on the BBC News site but there's a more detailed story, with less about Trump, on here
https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Media-Entertainment/Thai-owner-of-Miss-Universe-seeks-bankruptcy-protection

So a transwoman uses madey-uppy money to buy a female beauty contest in order to allow madey-uppy "women" to compete in it. And it"s gone a bit wrong. Who'da thunk it?

EtiennePalmiere · 10/11/2023 17:50

Doesn't surprise me from the Netherlands, at least Amsterdam is so, so captured.

Although Sigrid Kaag, the heavily TWAW leader of the liberal D66 party, just resigned accompanied by a woe is me complaint about the vitriol against women politicians. Makes me wonder how much her truly disgraceful conduct on this issue played into it - there'd video of her haughtily dismissing GC audience questions about SelfID.

puffyisgood · 10/11/2023 21:07

I can just imagine a female bodybuilder winning Mr Universe.

'er, but her, sorry, his biceps are half the size of the others''.

'true, but he's stunning and brave'.

Come to think of it, no I can't.
