Sarah Jane Baker, on the Trans Pride stage, saying

“If you see a TERF, punch them in the fucking face!”

to a cheering crowd :)

NB to MNHQ the video shows this being said. It is not just an allegation being shared.

Gc views are protected but does being a Terf mean the same thing? I’d say yes but probably some would say not.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2023 14:59

It's not about whether GC views are protected. That's the EA, not criminal law.

If you shared his email address on this thread, perhaps we could respond directly to him en masse?

This response is derisory.

Thosepeskyseagulls · 09/07/2023 15:06

We walked past the march in London yesterday and I saw one sign that said “I LOVE PISSING ON TERFS”. So, yea 😕.

IncomingTraffic · 09/07/2023 15:06

I would forward that response to your MP.

Apparently the police think it’s totally fine for people to celebrate pride by inciting crowds to punch people who don’t share their beliefs.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 09/07/2023 15:07

We all know what a terf means and we all know who would win that punch up don't we.

HBGKC · 09/07/2023 15:07

"I believe the most appropriate offence may potentially be a PO s5."

Public Order Code Section 5a:

Harassment, alarm or distress.

(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he—
(a)uses threatening [F1or abusive] words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour

But apparently it doesn’t matter because harassing people is part of how you celebrate pride. According to the police.

You mean biological males on cross sex hormones still have a physical advantage over women?

That's the point GC make about sport.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/07/2023 15:13

That response is from a Stonewall captured police force - sadly intent on creating a hostile environment for women and girls.

JFC. That’s appalling. Unbelievable, incredible, jaw-dropping.

NM73 · 09/07/2023 15:21

I've just reported this to the Met too. It is unbelievable. This cannot b be allowed to stand.

RebelliousCow · 09/07/2023 15:27

Calling Barker a " female".

MavisMcMinty · 09/07/2023 15:27

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/07/2023 14:27

The irony of men threatening women with violence because we want to keep ourselves safe from male violence 🙄

Yes, similar to the irony of trans women needing to use women-only toilets and changing rooms because “men are so dangerous”. Yes love, that’s why we don’t want men in there.

Thanks, getting my legislation mixed up! I will be telling various friends who live in the Richmond Park constituency not to make the mistake of voting for this independent candidate as some sort of protest vote against the main 3 parties.

Clymene · 09/07/2023 15:29

Apparently Barker can be recalled to prison at any time.

Wow, is that likely to happen? Shock

Don't know if I have understood rightly, but I think freedom of expression is allowed as long as the speaker is not attacking protected characteristics. Being a TERF is not a protected characteristic, but being trans is? That's how I interpret the logic, although I object to violent language about anybody.

'Being trans' is not a protected characteristic. Gender re-assignment is.

Apparently we only need to worry about cis predatory males. TWs are harmless. Does this mean SJB is not a true TW as TWs would never be or threaten to be violent? So confusing 🤔

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2023 15:31

The police have their own categories for so called "hate crime" and theirs is "transgender identity"

A protest vote, yes. Not looking carefully at a candidate’s background and voting for them because they’re unlikely to win, yes. Voting for this candidate once they know the background, no. I think the LibDem candidate is pretty sure to win in Richmond Park.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/07/2023 14:35

So if it’s within the law to call for people to punch other people who disagree with them is it ok to tell a meeting of Labour supporters to punch Conservatives?
Or a crowd of Manchester City supporters to punch Man United fans?

Somebody, a Man UTD fan, was arrested by the metropolitan police recently for wearing a football shirt with a slur, towards those who died at Hillsborough, on the back.

"The fan was arrested before Saturday's FA Cup final "after being seen wearing a shirt which appeared to refer in offensive terms to those who died in the Hillsborough tragedy", the Metropolitan Police said in their statement. Ninety-seven Liverpool fans died in the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2023 15:31

Really?

But even if so, they are incorrectly interpreting the equalities act.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2023 15:37

I've never seen much evidence that the police feel obliged to adhere to the Equality Act, on this or many other issues.
