Why are pink news the source of who to boycott though?!

They listed companies who are currently being boycotted & also published the deleted Innocent smoothie tweet & comments 😁 Thanks pink news for publishing & getting the word spread. Good work.

How many of these have "gone broke", exactly?

It's not literal y'know.

I don't think it's a coincidence that a backlash against Bud Light, Target and Oxfam came after Elon Musk took over Twitter, allowing free speech and changing the algorithms. I suspect more companies will be similarly impacted in the future.

Astralitzia · 08/06/2023 08:07

Moonandstarz · 08/06/2023 08:04

Target has lost 10 billion in the past 10 days.. Shareholders won't be happy at those losses. They may rethink their products & messaging in the future to prevent such losses again @Astralitzia
Money talks & when companies bottom lines are going to be hit they quickly retract their messaging hence Oxfam & Innocent drinks quickly deleting their messages rather than turning off commenting or deleting comments that went against their "values". It was about damage control & trying to prevent further backlash.

They haven't lost $10bn though. The market value of their shares has dropped $10bn.

Their market capital is still very healthy and still above normal pre-pandemic levels (there was an anomalous COVID spike). https://companiesmarketcap.com/target/marketcap/

Target (TGT) - Market capitalization

As of June 2023 Target has a market cap of $60.81 Billion. This makes Target the world's 252th most valuable company according to our data.

@Astralitzia but that's still huge & I'm sure it will slump further & further once more jump on the bandwagon. I think the Americans have had enough. Look at the bud lite boycott also.

What did Lego do? 😥

Nothing. They have loads of Harry Potter stuff. If you go into any of their shops it’s like a shrine to the work of JK Rolling.

Here you go. Lego have tried to be woke and inclusive as well, so that kids can see there is a natural diversity across humans and promote tolerance and acceptance. Plus of course the Harry Potter stuff.

How dare they have Harry Potter and Woke nonsense on display.

Boycott Mumsnetters must do! There is that other stuff - MagaBlox or something...

Moonandstarz · 08/06/2023 09:30

@StemStem excellent point re Lego & Harry Potter.
And Lego have also released new Harry Potter sets, ds got one in Smyths last weekend.

I'm not sure why Pink News listed Lego as a brand targeted for boycott as the article linked showed a comment from someone not directly from Lego..

Moonandstarz · 08/06/2023 09:32

@MishyJDI you posted at the same time as me! Thanks for linking that.. Lego will still get my hard earned cash but Innocent, Nike & Oxfam won't...

The target share price is far more complex than this. The current slump isn't solely related to this. Their profit margins are down and they have quite a lot of debt. Many in the US are tightening their belts in anticipation of student loan repayments restarting, they have had a 3 year pause due to covid. And most shares are institutionally owned, so in pension funds, mutual funds, investment companies etc.

Yamaya · 08/06/2023 09:37

My uncle was a skinhead back in the day and had some slightly dodgy ideas about race immigrants etc.
He had two sons who grew up with very strong personalities and minds of their own. I remember my dad telling me at one family function my uncle and his sons got into a heated argument about immigrants, non white people etc. I always remember what my dad said my cousin shouted at him. "The problem with you Dad is every time you go outside something pisses you off. The problem isn't the out there, the problem is you and if you can't handle it maybe you should fucking well stay at home"

This whole thread makes me think of that lol.

So it really wasn't a clever move on Targets part taking all this into consideration?

No as there's no alternatives.. At least with Innocent smoothies there is all the super market brands which taste very similar & are much cheaper.. My kids are happy with the switch..
Not as easy to do that with lego unfortunately..

There are brick alternatives to Lego. Wilco's do fake lego. As do some other places.

Thanks op. Great idea for a thread.
can we add primark? As a mum with a daughter who’s been persuaded to run off to a glitter family, I find this obscene.

https://www.primark.com/en-us/a/inspiration/special-occasions/celebrating-found-families

Moomoola, yes will do. Walked past their virtue signalling pride window in my local schooling centre last night.. That found family campaign is definitely odd.. There seems to be an underlying determination by many activist groups & companies to break up & "rebrand" the traditional nuclear family. @Moomoola hope your doing OK?

Moomoola · 08/06/2023 10:29

Thanks moonandstarz I'd just like to tell the world that this bollocks actually affects real people, and real families.

And I'd really like to shake the young trendies in advertising that are so up their own bums they don't realize the damage they are actually causing.
Grrrr.

Moonandstarz · 08/06/2023 10:48

@Moomoola I completely believe you, it really is breaking up families.. There seems to be a divide & conquer mentality. Clever, innocent branding designed to reel very young children in.. After all we do have an inherent need as humans to belong to a community or "tribe"... It's fucking scary.
@Moomoola mumsnet is a fantastic resource & hopefully your daughter will come to her senses soon. X

Older MNers will recall the Hyde Park Diggers led by the anarchist Syd Rawle. They set up communes etc. One of them , Ubi Dwyer , coined a slogan ' the family is an emotional gas chamber!'.

I thought this was brilliant when I was a teeny. There are indeed many problems with the nuclear family and maybe the extended family was better in some ways. But just smashing it all up has never worked either.

Anyway if memory serves me right old Ubi got religion before he passed away. Meanwhile....the struggle for a struggle is real....

Figment1982 · 08/06/2023 10:59

I will happily boycott companies who have shown absolute disdain for women.. Oxfam is the one that immediately springs to mind this week, and Nationwide before that (mainly because of the reaction of the 'intern' on that post, threatening to block people who didn't agree) but I don't think we need to boycott any company who simply have pride stuff up.. I may roll my eyes at the pink washing but I don't see anything that e.g. Lego have done that is terrible.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 08/06/2023 11:00

@Porkandbeans1
yeah, it was all a complete coincidence. Nothing to do with Satan or special swimmies at all

👿

Moonandstarz · 08/06/2023 11:03

@Figment1982 no I'd never have had lego on the list either. It was that Pink News article linked that claimed Lego was being boycotted but as @StemStem pointed out they are still carrying the Harry Potter line & new sets have been added to range last month. Ds got a cool Dobby set at the weekend. So I won't add Lego to the boycott list!

Ah yes - all us post cancer mastectomy women with our "tits cut off" aren't normal.
Fucking do one. You people aren't feminists.

TUCKINGFYP0 · 08/06/2023 11:26

I’m not a doctor . But somehow I’m able to tell the difference between

adult women who reluctantly give fully informed consent to have a mastectomy as part of cancer treatment to save their lives and

teenagers and young women with mental illness / autism / who have been traumatised or sexually abused , who are then lied to to by HCP and have their completely healthy breasts cut off because they erroneously believe that it will turn then into a man .

Most women who have had mastectomies for medical reasons are the very people who are fighting to stop young women having this surgery because of alleged gender dysphoria. They know how hard it is and why these young women need psychological support, not surgery.

I think the point is ModiBodi showing/implying healthy breasts being cut off...?

arethereanyleftatall · 08/06/2023 11:32

Eh @Gtsr443?!?

I presume you've completely misunderstood the point.

That's exactly the point - it's a vital operation for women with breast cancer, and then there is completely healthy breasts undergoing the same surgery!! That's literally precisely the travesty.
