Brighton NHS trust recommends drug-induced male breastfeeding in their maternity protocols

https://www.bsuh.nhs.uk/maternity/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2021/01/MP005-Perinatal-Care-for-Trans-and-Non-Binary-People.pdf

This is part of their maternity protocols for perinatal care. In the Infant feeding section:

"5.5.7 Non-gestational parents may wish to participate in feeding their
infants using their own bodies. Cis women who have previously breastfed may have the most success in relactating. Trans women and cis women who have not been pregnant may also be able to induce lactation to some extent. Methods for inducing lactation include using galactagoues and physical stimulation. Alternatively, some families choose to use supplemental nursing systems with expressed milk or formula."

They cite this website in the reference list: http://www.milkjunkies.net/2013/05/trans-women-and-breastfeeding-personal.html

Notably they do not cite any source which has tested the composition of any such male secretions for safety and nutritional value.

I'm on route to maternity as daughter is in Labour. She can't breast feed due to medication.
Should I of told her partner to start taking drugs so he can feed his daughter??
Should I of done?
Why are medics allowing a untested experimental drug on a baby.

SinnerBoy · 23/05/2023 08:30

Why are medics allowing a untested experimental drug on a baby.

Because, in their twisted minds, the only thing of importance in this scenario is the, erm, patent, whose psychological needs must be considered paramount.

Sick

ReformedWaywardTeen · 23/05/2023 08:46

Do you know that makes me so angry.

When I had DS at 28 weeks in 2008, mainly down to bloody negligence by the same hospital, I was made to feel like a failure for not being able to breastfeed.

I would sit at the electric pump for ages until I was in pain and the nurse would then say I wasn't trying hard enough.

The snotty behaviour about not caring that my breast milk would be better for him as he was so poorly, that I should be less bothered about my boobs sagging. I had breastfed DD for a year so that was rubbish.

To find out after in a throw away comment by a midwife from that department "oh you couldn't breastfeed, you could've taken medication to induce it" was the final insult.

To hear they're now giving it out in the NHS like sweets to anyone who fancies a go at it makes my blood boil.

AlisonDonut · 23/05/2023 10:06

Women should not have to disclose personal experiences to prove the point that this is sick.

Anyone who is promoting this needs to be served up a glass of milk, taken from a bull who has been given hormones to produce milk, and drink the whole lot down, before they can move forward one step with this absolutely vile and insane direction.

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/05/2023 10:48

Let's face it, these men are getting hard at the idea of "breastfeeding" babies.

It's horrifying.

FannyCann · 23/05/2023 10:49

Genuine question - do bulls have some form of rudimentary udder/teat?
Male dogs have very tiny nipples.
But I've been up close to a (gelded) male horse's undercarriage - I don't ever remember seeing anything equivalent. 🤔

Interesting question. AFAIK all male mammals have rudimentary nipples/teats.

This individual at least admits it IS gender 'affirming' for them

nilsmousehammer · 23/05/2023 16:03

'gate kept'.......

there's a point where I run out of swear words.

No one is fucking entitled to make a baby suck on their tits for their own jollies.

If you have given birth then you may be feeding your child. If you are just craving a personal experience for super personal reasons then get a fucking sex doll.

turbonerd · 24/05/2023 09:15

This «gatekeeping» shit is just daft by now.

No. You are a man so you leave the baby to be breastfed by a woman or you give the baby nutritious formula from a bottle.

Don’t mess around with trying to give the baby toxic Waste from your body, or if no hormones, don’t try to lactate because you will starve the baby.

No. The answer from me is no.

If that is gatekeeping then I am fine to be a gatekeeper. I’ll be Heimdall and Heracles to keep the babies well nurished and not used as props by a crazy guy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/05/2023 14:12

100% spot on, @turbonerd - and I'll happily join you on the gatekeeping line.

Babies are not tools to validate a man's fantasies or his 'gender identity', and no man should be allowed to feed a baby when there is little or no evidence about whether this fluid they produce is safe for babies. It is definitely NOT as good/nourishing as breast milk from a biological woman, and while it may be as nourishing as formula, I doubt that it why the men want to breastfeed the baby. I firmly believe their main reason is because it validates them, and feeds into their fantasies of being female, and in autogynephile men I am sure it has a sexual component - and NO child should be used for that purpose.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/05/2023 20:30

As I read it, that is about as close as it's safe to get in print to saying 'this is either complete fantasy or gross malpractice'.

nilsmousehammer · 25/05/2023 21:39

Succinct article, well explained, and yes highlights in depth the difficulty in being certain this actually happened on the information given, and the many very serious ethical and safeguarding issues for the child involved. Male drug induced nipple secretions being a very clear term, with all the drugs involved being passed to the infant.

Codlingmoths · 25/05/2023 23:24

La scapigliata is a very gc doctor (I think doctor definitely medical)- no one on the TRA side will read her article unfortunately. There’s no such thing as science to these people, only the ‘right’ side and they get to use the word science to describe their opinions, and the ‘wrong’ side and you don’t listen to them.

Succinct article on ethics of trans identified men inducing lactation to feed a baby.

That's very stark and makes learning of it even more horrifying than when I first learned of it.

Tragically, you're entirely correct; we can see prime examples of it in MN, for example, over the last 2 or 3 days.

As my gran would have said, they are "Loud, confident and wrong."

YouJustDoYou · 20/05/2023 09:07

Jesus fucking CHRIST, Brighton!!! They're vile there in the NHS, using babies to satisfy male kinks, that's honestly horrific.

Just like the Romans. Brothels apparently (may be apocryphal) kept babies because of their strong suck reflex. Ugh. Brighton NHS need challenging hugely, they are playing into a fetish.
