FFS! I really hope they're both OK.

As a mother and trade unionist I stand against biological determinism

Never heard it call that before.

I hope everyone is okay and got home safe 💕

My 15 year old daughter was assaulted by transactivists before the police arrived. She was well behind the line formed by stewards and other volunteers. The activists surged forward broke the line and reached her. She got elbowed in the ribs by a female, and got called a fascist. She was terrified when they charged forward as they were mostly men and masked. She got trapped in with them and had to battle her way back to our side. She was desperately looking for her 13 year old sister as she was with her. She was found safe and unharmed.

I had ran off (thinking they were safe) to form another line on the right hand flank as they were clearly trying to kettle us. Another women took my place and told me to find my daughter as she had been hurt.

Reported to police on third or fourth attempt not had her crime number through yet though. They were not interested. One police officer just arriving told me to go to the local police station to report it, another said "as you can see we are a little bit busy at the moment",

She was really upset, but more determined than ever to win this war on women.

The police let this happen they put my children at risk by not turning up.

She has been to Nottingham, Glasgow and London Let Women Speak. I've also been to Manchester, Cardiff and Brighton. This was the worst police absence I have ever seen. The police put the three officers who were there (who told me they had been sent to keep an eye on things!) at risk.
I'm so angry. Working today but will be putting in complaints.
Hoping more footage comes out today as bodycams are downloaded, including my own.

Femaleandlearning I am so sorry about your daughter. I hope she is OK now.

HeartBrokenWife · 15/05/2023 10:39

I hugely admire yours and your daughters’ courage. I hope your injured daughter isn’t too badly hurt? She must be horribly shaken up by her experience at the hands of these insane TRA zealots though.

I’m an old lady and my view of the world, although I’ve been a feminist since my university days, has altered completely during these past few years. Never in my lifetime has society been so hostile to and dangerous for, women and girls.

InColour · 15/05/2023 11:21

Femaleandlearning That's awful to hear. Hope your daughter is ok.

Having her mum fighting for and with her will fill your daughter with wonderful inner strength. But it is awful that this is still so much needed.

Shame on the police.

I was going to apologise for starting a thread when there was one about Birmingham LWS https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4796462-lws-birmingham-1405
but given the details posted about the young woman assaulted I hope others will read.

Have only just finished watching and it really does seem that the police behaviour was terrible.

All these new laws about not allowing noise to impinge on others, and yet the TRAs were allowed to shout and amplify however the want.

Disgusting.

So sorry FemaleAndLearning about what happened to your daughter. I hope she is okay now.

I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter.

There is a stark difference in policing between different areas. Birmingham seemed quite New Zealand adjacent in their lack of support for / protection of women.

They're supposed to provide a service and they're not doing it. They need retraining by Belfast police force - who were excellent - by the sounds of it.

Surely there is quite a lot of cause for complaint when other police forces have managed the same type of event so much more safely?

I wonder if the police forces with piss poor performance, like in Birmingham have a correlation to those spending thousands on Stonewall diversity schemes? I bet there's a correlation. It's not ok, women are half the population and we pay our taxes. If it were anyone else doing such a bad job they'd be fired. Who was responsible for the decision not to police properly?

RufustheSpecuIatingreindeer · 15/05/2023 18:38

So sorry to hear about your daughter femaleandlearning

It must have been incredibly scary for you both, she is very brave

IwantToRetire · 15/05/2023 18:52

Birminghame Police saying it all went really well!

Yesterday we policed a planned protest and counter-protest in Centenary Square, Birmingham. Around 150 people attended, and officers were present to facilitate a peaceful protest. One man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Some responding seem to think the police might not understand just how badly they failed https://twitter.com/BrumPolice/status/1658076410676666368

Terfasaurus
@terfasaurus

I will be making a formal complaint against Birmingham City police as their officers refused to follow the law after I was assaulted by a trans rights activist. I asked an officer to identify himself (which is basic procedure) & he refused becoming hostile, supported by his team. https://twitter.com/terfasaurus/status/1657990829078724608

Take your disengenuous lies and keep them to yourself. How dare you!

IwantToRetire · 15/05/2023 18:59

don't think anyone should be bringing their 15 year old child to an anti-trans protest

Assuming you want to be taken seriously instead of acting the clown, you need to make factually correct statement.

Or maybe you really do believe that you don't think anyone should be bringing their 15 year old child to a women's rights event

Or maybe the 'pro-trans' crowd should stay home so they don't assault children.

If you left the children out of it there would be very few trans activists left.
And what's more to the point, if you left the children out of it, you also wouldn't be supporting the transitioning of 15 year olds.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/05/2023 19:20

"Women's rights" is misleading when the agenda every single time is transpeople IMO.

Kelly should rename it to "Let Gender Critical talk about transpeople" just so we're all clear what it's about.

Are you serioulsy so dense that you don't grasp the fundamental conflict of rights that ccauses women to come out in such a way - or are you just pretending.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/05/2023 19:21

Let's focus on the women and girls assaulted at the women's rights event.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/05/2023 19:21

As in the thread title.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/05/2023 19:24

I hope the police are held to account for their failures, here. So disappointing, when it seemed they had at last started to take their duties seriously protecting women's events.

Rightsraptor · 15/05/2023 19:28

Fuck's sake, Merlin, there is no 'agenda' at these rallies.

DerekFaker · 15/05/2023 19:42

Merlin is, always, trying to derail a thread that makes TRAs look bad, with nonsense. Please don't enable him.

Twitter thread with several videos showing aggressive behaviour from TRAs and poor policing:
