For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Derailment on your own thread is a puzzler, isn’t it Beetle?

It is indeed. Technically if we are going to quibble there have been derails on this thread, but that's been, like all threads it happens on, because in that moment either most of what needs to be said has been said. OR we are waiting on new information OR for something to happen e.g. When I get to make the first payment on Monday to For Women Scotland, and passing time.

How boring these threads would be if no one could go off topic ever. Sometimes the off topic stuff helps people understand certain posters better. It's just fucking crazy to try to police our thoughts in that way.

And to keep this on topic...

Thanks @Boiledbeetle I'd have read it ages ago, but I've been struggling through Wolf Hall. Which, briefly, cured me of reading. Ironically(?), because of the pronouns; which he/him exactly is talking now?

Feck I'm derailing aren't i? Is it all derails or just.....just.....just.....<sob>.....just....cake!? 😢

Some excellent cake posts were cruelly deleted in their prime this afternoon. It's carnage!

Now let's see if cross thread populating is allowed.

For Women Scotland need help

They have 30 days to raise £40, 000, which obviously needs to be where everyone's money goes right now rather than buying a book (not going to stop anyone who wants to do both though).

It's such an important case. And they have such a small amount of time to raise the money that any amount of gardening big or small will help the flowers grow better!

I CANT ABIDE PROFTEROLLYS

Can you use your charm, intellect, guile and political clout Nicola and have a word with MNHQ about this terrible injustice that cakes are no longer being treated as legitimate topics of thread adjacent conversation. Their existence is LITERALLY BEING ERASED...POST BY POST

And your above point is noted but I'm limited currently with my sweet treat gif options.

Wonderful! Although it's not going anywhere, it will remain sat there on Amazon for people to buy whenever and if they can afford it.

We have definitely slowed down and I can't tweet about it for the next month/until they hit their target as I don't want to divert any money from the For Women Scotland Crowdjustice fundraiser.

But we are currently getting so close to £800 raised. Which for a book about a mumsnet thread is kind of stunning really!

I've got my bank stuff sorted out and I did a test transfer yesterday so it's all ready for me to pay them on Monday all the money we've raised this month.

And definitely much cake! Although there is now a dedicated cake thread thanks to @EpicChaos!

The April payment has been made to For Women Scotland.

And I've asked people to donate direct to the fundraiser this month rather than buy the book. The book will still be there once the fundraiser for the Haldane case is over.
