For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Why that's a mighty fine poem you've ended up with the book open on!

One of my finer poetic moments! I'm surprised it took me two months to come up with part two mind!

I'm shattered. I'm off to bed. But before I go we got a respectable 23 orders processed today

We've had 191 orders processed altogether so far over £475. Nearly at the 200 orders, £500 Mark!

Right I can't stop yawning.

Night all

Night night 😴. So close!!!

SinnerBoy · 06/04/2023 01:22

Ooh, RF has a Stewart McBride book there...

My cousin reports that Duvet is angry and giving her a lot of food for thought.

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 08:00

Woken up to another 4 orders processed.

Edging soo close to 200 orders processed!!! Just 5 more to go!

And @SinnerBoy your cousin is right the Duvet is angry....it's raging!

But if it makes one person see all this in a new light then the jobs a goodun!

Has the bicentury limit been broken yet?

Still 5...5!! More orders to go!

I'm still shocked it's not just me buying copies!

I mean I have 1 or 2 or 3 or 4! But someone else has been buying the rest!I

The more (in a completely different way) fascinating stats have appeared on tweets mind. It's amazing to see how many times people view something and then how many times that actually turns into someone actually clicking on the link to the Amazon page.....it's depressing! and it's not mattered whether it's been from my newly minted very little followers account or the tweets that have come from F WS with their much larger following.

I have to say from doing this it has been a fantastic opportunity to see how the book charts work on Amazon! And how being No 2 (still can't believe that happened! Laughs manically) doesn't actually mean you will be paying off the mortgage any time soon. And that Amazon has no clue as to what a poetry book should actually contain.

Just because a man's words are described by a critic as poetic does not mean his crime novel should get to be called a poetry book! And why yes! Yes I'm bitter!

My copy has been dispatched 🤗

My anticipatory offering...

"And women, fair women, will not take this lying down.
She'll cover her careworn face with an obligatory frown.

"Let Women Speak!" Our voices raise, we will not cease the cry,
Men can't be us, life giving ones, no matter how they try.

Though we be silenced, scared and harmed, us Women say our "NO"
No ladydick, no male and prick, in our safe spaces, NO!"

You're welcome to my meagre offering, all the way back on page 2.

Having read the book, I still stand by this.

ChristinaXYZ · 06/04/2023 10:44

Thoroughly enjoyed reading my copy last night. Brilliant work @Boiledbeetle and the context stuff at the beginning and the end means this is history in the making! Hot stuff!

And to @ArcaneWireless who wrote the Barry and Freda one - so funny, haven't stopped laughing! Thinking of taking up singing it in the street!

Let Women Speak should start singing it at the TRAs when the loudhailers come out.

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 11:52

@Vebrithien thank you. Although it could just be you and you at the moment!

@ChristinaXYZ I thought that although we all know what's it's about if someone comes across a copy in the future it needs the context of why they are written otherwise we just look off our rockers!

Every time I did a check of the book i would be singing the @ArcaneWireless when I got to it.You can't help it. It just works so well! I like the idea of it being sung at the TRAs!

Still on 195 orders processed so close to that 200 mark.

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 13:32

197 processed orders!

So whilst we wait

Currently we have 11 review and thanks to the lovely Lola that translates to 4.5 stars

But...A certain legal bod who shall not be named (otherwise they appear) who has been on sale since 2021 has 4.7 stars from 25 reviews.

We cannot let that be that we have less reviews AND less stars!!!!

So do your bit for the team and go and leave a review....Unless you are a friend of Lolas.

To clarify I mean leave nice reviews on Under the Duvet of Darkness.

Do not go and leave horrible one star reviews on the other book. (Sits on hands)

Even with the context Beetle we still look absolutely barking, but right!

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 06/04/2023 14:48

Mine hasn’t been dispatched yet, if I’m 200 do I win a shiny prize?

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 15:04

Now it's just playing with me!

@Ramblingnamechanger that is true! On both counts!

@Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis why yes you will. If you are the 200th processed order your prize will be a lovely new shiny book delivered to your door shortly after! (Waits to see if she'll fall for it)

Even though I find him reprehensible, I'm not going to give him one star; I've not read his book and don't want to stoop to cheating.

I'm not going to buy it, but if it's in the library, I may give it a go. .......

That's why I clarified. After I posted I thought aghhhh! I honestly don't want people to do that! I haven't read it so I wouldn't! Tempting though it is!

I do want people to review the wonderful book they've just ordered though!

@Boiledbeetle Ah yes this is true, a wonderful prize

SinnerBoy · 06/04/2023 16:16

Yes, tempting - but resistable. If I did that, I'd scarcely be in a position to criticise chaps like Lia and Emily.
