For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

I have just realised that in my excitement of the prospect of a double wine bottle carrier in the advert ( very tempting, it’s hard to carry wine whilst pushing a wheelchair) I forgot to click buy on the book. Then I thousand wait for the kindle version when I saw that update but now I’m attracted to the shiny shiny book in the pictures. I’m obviously very easily swayed and a marketing dream.

Has anyone sent one to Alex Sobel yet? I think he would just bin it and I’m not sure I can afford to out myself to him ( aforementioned wheelchair pushing issues) but I’m very tempted.

You really need the actual book for the full experience.

It was designed to be a book book and the layout just can't be replicated on an e book.

Because I've used bigly letters and smaller smaller letters and everything was set using a certain font kindle doesn't give the same freedom and you have limited option of what you can do. Sci the layout is not as....tidy.

So whilst the kindle version will exist at some point you would be much better buying the shiny shiny covered actual hold it in your hand, sniff the pages, use as a fan when hot paperback.

Then once I've fleeced you all for your money you can buy the e book version for when you want access to the poems but daren't be seen with an actual book occasions!

Ah, I see you have people in, the marquee looks a bit small though. Good to see you've taken the Scottish weather into consideration as you are entertaining guests.

I trust the house has been given a thorough going over, every nook and cranny checked for cobwebs, dust, £100k in cash, testimonies from 100s of women....

Mr. Sturgeon has been arrested.

duc748 · 05/04/2023 13:03

From the BBC News site:

(Police presence at Sturgeon's house)

...and an incident tent in the front garden.

I thought "where the bodies are buried" was just metaphorical. 😀

DerekFaker · 05/04/2023 13:23
