For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

@EndlessTea I find @RealFeminist poems are the best for that. You can really get the accent going!

Risky! Aren't you afraid of dropping it in the bath?

It was a shame she didn't write more, but she was probably celebrating her short lived victory for men's rights over the period they were mainly written.

Then of course pink leggings came along, and we know how that went for her.

By that point she couldn't even string a sentence together!

Loving reading these still! I got more than one copy and one of my daughters is gifting a copy to her very GC friend- they’re in their 20’s!

I love the fact that these are getting read by the younger generation. We are lucky we are in the main older and don't feel the urge to please our friends in quite the same way.

But when you are of an age when all you have are the friends you've been at school with, to go against what the supposed majority think must be very difficult.

I wonder how many girls and young women are actually OK with this? It's probably a very small fraction when they actually stop and listen to the pit falls of "be kind be polite"

From my daughters friend groups, diff ages but all now 18 or over, they don’t discuss it much because once they realise who is fully onboard and who isn’t they sort of seem to avoid the topic. Nobody has fallen out. The friends that are GC discuss it with each other, one of my daughters is very outspoken about it and she’s the one passing this book on to her friend she often talks about it with. I hear about something here, pass it on to my daughters, and they pass it on to their friends! Thank goodness for Mumsnet!

My book has arrived! Thank you, @Boiledbeetle. I may well leave a copy in Killarney at the end of the month. I hear it's the place for getting the big picture on gender related issues...

Poetry's had a vanishingly tiny audience for quite some time! Perhaps some spoken word might reach larger audiences - I'm thinking of Kate Tempest's work (more rap than poetry, really) - but for the most part, there are generally more people writing poetry than reading/buying it.

They is Kae Tempest now: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kae_Tempest

What a world...

You got the honour of appearing with the @RealFeminist I see!

Yes! Leave copies everywhere.

This is where ebooks fall down. You can't just leave them in random places!

I need some bonus poems.......READ ME!

Oh and some more reviews from you lovely gorgeous amazing magnificent people who have bought it received it and of course read it!

moving on:

Good morning! We are at a heady 3 5 orders processed this morning! processed another two whilst writing this post!

In other news I awoke this morning to Kindle files of

Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON'T WHEESHT https://amzn.eu/d/bbmnIcc

from the mumsnet kindle version sorter fairy. (Much more useful than the bigly letters fairy and just as anonymous).

I'm just on with downloading the previewer and the files.

There is an opportunity, (and an extra selling point to make people buy the kindle version even though they have already bought the book) to add in a bonus chapter and maybe a dinosaur QR code!

Now I could spend hours trawling the boards trying to find the various poems that lurk in the shadows. Or I could ask you lovely posters to either post your offerings here (even if you've already posted a poem up thread it makes it much easier if you post it again a, because I'm inherently lazy and b because it saves me having to do the whole "hello please may I use that poem you posted two days ago" part of the process) PM me on here, (or for those who have an actual copy of the book you know where to send it! Especially if you think it would get zapped on here for going against guidelines!)

Please don't make me have to write them all myself, I'm currently all poemed out.

So for those of you who missed the thread originally and would like your chance to go down in history, or if you're in the book but feel you have more to say on the subject.I

OR @RealFeminist if you are one of the outstanding stars of the book who currently has free time on their hands now they are unemployed!

And if you've read the book you'll know all levels of poem writing abilities are more than welcome!

I'm so proud of what we've managed to achieve so far, especially considering there's only about 6 of us here with our abhorrent views!! But we can still do more!
