For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Clears throat.

(Public announcement time ,and no, no emails from a nearby HQ have proceeded this).

The book Under the Duvet of Darkness whilst written entirely by Mumsnet posters is not I repeat NOT published with Mumsnet express permission or cooperation.

It is published with the express permission and cooperation of the writers themselves.

Obviously, while there are many gender-critical voices on MN and they are very happy to allow us to express our opinions and arguments on the site, other MN users do not share the same view .

It would also be helpful if tweets etc link directly to Amazon rather than to a MN thread.

Could any supporters promoting the book bear this in mind.

🙄

Oh, I dread to think why this announcement was needed.

Who knows @Waitwhat23 maybe those who haven't read the blurb on Amazon where it states its published with the permission of the individual poem and comment copyright owners unless referenced, or the second post here where i put that long list of individual copyright holders think that mumsnetters can only do things outside of mumsnet about mumsnet with mumsnet permission.

Mine came today - my daughter wanted me to read one to her, just looking for a non-sweary one. Thank you all, you wonderful women!

I've just had a phone call "Aunty Boiled do I have to read the TRA chapter I heard enough about that when I was at your house"

She's going to be either traumatised or truly educated as to why I keep banging on about it by the time she's finished the book.

And the Internet has gone down at mine. Again. I'm stuck on my phone.

How do people do this all the time. Everything is tiny!

And @334bu 😁
@Whatthechicken are there any?

Such lovely photos.

If anyone is on twitter can they do some photo posting on there. And some book padding in general as I'm in the middle of a breakdown. Me and the Internet.

I can't get into twitter on my phone, because i have no idea which email account I used to set the bloody thing up and don't know the password.

My Internet box is a mass of flashing lights and my data on my phone is tiny. Never usually need to use it.

So I'm going to go and cry in a corner until the Internet comes back on.

@Boiledbeetle Not found one yet! But swearing is the least of my worries for her tbh. It sparked a conversation about why women and girls need spaces away from men and boys. She said ‘everyone is perfect just the way they are, but we have different bodies and so we need private spaces’.

DialSquare · 04/04/2023 18:25

Mine came early too!

Apparently, mine has been delivered. Unfortunately, I'm miles away from home so I won't see it until the weekend.

I'm very jealous.

Not available on Kindle so I have ordered the paperback.

I did spend many hours getting nowhere whilst trying to make it available on kindle.

But it turns out that unlike changing sex sometimes when you wish enough it comes true

A gallant mumsnetter has arrived on her magnificent internet stead and is currently attempting to make a kindle book out of my appallingly formatted word document (I'm so so sorry).

So hopefully in the not to distant future that might be a possibility.

This is honestly not a clever ploy to get you all to buy it twice. Seriously Amazon ebooks when you don't know what the hell you are doing is a nightmare!

gosh look at all those books, arriving whilst I go off to spend five minutes doorstepping the Conservatives , well they were doorstepping me until I discovered she was a fellow mumsnetter...
So when you come here this evening to check out the weirdo, who claims to be Boiledbeetle, who stood and swore a lot on the doorstep about men in women's spaces...And by the way would you like to buy a book written by the women of mumsnet whilst you ask for me vote...

Hello!!!!! Fellow mumsnetter...Buy the book!

Check this out! https://amzn.eu/d/2FVZHFH

I can't keep up with the thread! Sorry (but my book is now on its way!) But literally this Monday - for the 1st time ever in 25 years my (an) (Tory) MP knocked on my door. I scuttled out, he'd moved on to the next house, but the postie caught him. I told him that despite the massive local issues (Tory council planning to allow 3000 houses just over a mile from me) I wanted to discuss single-sex spaces and women's rights, as a single-issue voter. We had a good discussion for over 10 mins. He was well-informed and knowledgeable. He is married to a professional woman, but he was clear these were issues that he understood. That is who I am planning on sending my copy to. Do you think the Tories have had training? But what a voting dilemma. I do not have a sensible voting home. Single issue: has to be Tory. Other: I cant vote independent due to the suspect financial mispractice; Labour no candidate; not sure about UKIP (active last election); LibDem & green - not see anything. Tricky, very tricky. This man was a leadership candidate and still may do OK in the future.

Another order yay! I've been dithering for ages. It's very hard to accept that Labour had let women down so very badly over this. And is been hoping they would come round, but every time Kier opens his mouth he just makes it worse.

So this afternoon when I had A Conservative on the door step that wasn't trying to think of a way to avoid saying the truth or hedging their bets or going full out read and we were on the same page I just thought you know what I've said I'm a single issue voter over this and it's time to out my x where that single issue is understood and likely too be addressed, and that's not Labour.

So in the local council elections, especially as a few unrelated things are more to my listing from the Conservatives candidate I'm voting Conservative.

aghhhhhhhhhhhhh........nope The sky didn't fall in. God hasn't immediately smited me!d

MPs everywhere will be getting copies of poems by angry women and going what the fuck?
