For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

OK whichever Amazon van driver finished their shift and didn't deliver the book of poems that was in their van....why???????? Why didn't you deliver it?

Also, just FYI, mine was delivered by Royal Mail. In Amazon packaging.

It arrived before expected, but can totally imagine some getting delayed in they system.

Seainasive · 04/04/2023 08:08

Ooh mine has been dispatched! I’ll be taking it on holiday with me next week ☀️

Boiledbeetle · 04/04/2023 08:11

Another 22 orders have been processed whilst I slept. (And for once I actually slept! Woohoo)

We are at nearly £340 raised.

Beats doing a Blue Peter Bring and Buy sale!

Should we create a tread in the What we are reading’ pages of Mumsnet? It’s a popular place.

It does look better now there are some other reviews.

Now it just looks like Lola's review is exactly what it is!

Short!

Just went across to buy my copy and had to laugh that the advert was for a very snazzy double wine carrier, is this based on all your shopping histories? I thought it was marmalade vodka all the way ( which I have been craving since learning of it on here).

Boiledbeetle if your building abilities and as good as your book writing/ fundraising abilities you can build me a new hospital ward/ prison block any time.

Boiledbeetle · 04/04/2023 10:08

@Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis thank you!

I've broken the algorithms in Amazon I've got no adverts coming up at the moment. Probably because I have visited literally one item repeatedly over the last few days. They've given up trying to persuade me with other items.

My building abilities are, thankfully, much superior to my literary skills.

Not by much! But better!

My advert is a MENS dragon bottle opener.

Pah!

Boiledbeetle · 04/04/2023 10:50

Which lucky lady lives in Spain? Whoever you are you've added another country onto the list of places. Although it shows as 'other'

So far it's been bought in The UK, USA, Canada, and Spain!

Tis the Lady Chatterley's Lover de nos jours.

This year Beetle you built a book.
And publishing and marketing skills.
And you can add Philanthropist to your CV.

Not a shabby start to the year.

That may be so, but the house is a tip. I've run out of clean mugs, I've finally had to admit defeat and put a load of washing in having run out of clean everything, the living room looks like burglars have thrown a few reams of paper around! It's chaos!

But it's been worth it!

I've had a really shit few years. I was involved in a legal case that took 2 years to get to court and then another 10 years stuck in a legal battle with a government department, who despite someone being in jail decided that it was basically still my fault!

I spent last year just coming to terms with the fact that 12 years of legal battles was over.

This year was the start of a new chapter.

Turns out that new chapter came with another 15 all bound in a rather nice cover!
