For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Then I get the giggles!

It's surreal isn't it. Brilliant but surreal.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/04/2023 22:13

102 people out there with the mumsnet book of poems

it will become a secret badge of pride in later years

I'm hoping there's a few more to add to that number yet.

But you just know you'll be checking out Peoples bookshelves...all the usual suspects and now you can add "oh they've got the Mumsnet poems I see"

totally surreal.

I reckon I got off easy with the poems. I pity the poor sod who decides to take on the challenge of the Allison Bailey threads film!

FWS has already got a pleasing donation there. such a great thing to do!

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 22:35

On the total total page it's over £260. So it doesn't seem much £2.50 profit per book but they are adding up!

As there is a poem in there written by Chatgpt I've asked them to write one on donating money to For Women Scotland

No thanks. It's poorly edited, the "poems" are quite possibly defamatory all while supporting amazon and it's highly unethical practices.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/04/2023 23:07

oooh! defamatory poetry

<rubs hands>

Also, how are you able to state that it's 'badly edited' if you haven't bought it from Amazon, in order to read it?

Datdamndamp · 03/04/2023 23:21

Hang on. Have I been sold a pup? I'm buying this on the basis that it's very definitely defamatory. Quite possibly doesn't cut it.

It's that you Lola?

Once you've read it from duvet to duvet then and only then can you lay claim to it being defamatory. So stick your hand in pocket, buy a copy and then have your say.

And of course it's not brilliantly edited a) because I'm a bloody builder not an English teacher. And 2) as 100% of the profit is being donated there was a kitty of zero £s to do it properly.

For the same reason that is why it is self published on Amazon. It's not like there's a lot of option for Gender Critical writers these days.

Let us have the details of your superbly edited book that you wrote, edited brilliantly and self published and donated all the profit so we can do a proper compare and contrast.

sigh cover to cover. Can you guess how the title occurred!

Well....all poems, except @TheBiologyStupid and she can explain that herself, that are in the book remained up on Mumsnet. So unfortunately they are limited by the talk guidelines of mumsnet

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 23:25

Actually I lied.

There is one poem that no one until they read the book had ever seen including the mumsnet moderstors. It does exist on mumsnet but only on a PM I had from the writer.

And as that's about a pink legging 'd individual I'm going to say it's not defamatory.

I see Lola has tracked us down...

@ArcaneWireless are you angling for a second book?

Glad it's not your mother, otherwise I'd be wondering how you ended up so pleasant!

Vol 2 can be the defamatory out takes.

😁

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 23:41

Obviously I do have skills that are better than my editing, if anyone needs their damp proof sorting, new staircase , new roof, a hospital wing, a high school, prison unit....
