Press conference by Seb Coe stating that male to female transgender athletes who have gone through male puberty will be excluded from female competition!
At last.

Off topic but Tom Daley is such a knob. Anyone see him try to present the one show about a year ago wearing a shirt open to his navel? He looked so stupid I felt embarrassed for him and he was a rubbish presenter as well.

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2023 23:43

I don’t think it is ever off topic to point out knobdom when you see it @dittbtdity

Especially regarding those that are only interested in women when they want to hire them and could not give two flying ones when it comes to their rights.

AggieTop · 23/03/2023 22:16

That's interesting @LangClegsInSpace. I never imagined that you had to nominate yourself.

Perhaps we should send links to Sharron and encourage her to apply?

PS - as a knitter myself I am horrified by Tom's sweater (and the fact that he has "discovered" knitting as though he bloody invented it (but that's a whole other thread) 😡

Yes, women have spent centuries building up outstanding textile craft traditions and then Tom pops up and presents us with the textile equivalent of bits of pasta and glitter glued onto sugar paper and we are all expected to be as enthusiastic as if he was our own special toddler.

This was a lovely thread:

It’s disappointing that this only for elite level - but it does set a precedent and makes it easier for local and National sporting bodies to draw up their own policies ‘in line with international guidance’.

English school athletics are quick off the mark on following suit. 👏 👏

Wonderful news Rainbow. All it takes is for those at the top to behave like grown ups and it soon gets filtered downwards.

marzipansux · 24/03/2023 00:14

Super happy. I love the idea of asking Tom Daley to "just try harder" to have his own baby.

Mommymoments · 24/03/2023 00:55

LangClegsInSpace · 23/03/2023 21:43

Calm down Tom, nobody's after your knitting!

Literally nobody.

Tom noone is stopping them setting up their own transgender events doh.. That's the route they need to go down if they want to compete. They have two very obvious choices compete as the sex they were born as OR set up their own transgender events. There is no place for them in women's sport.

Wow go English schools athletics! Wish the Irish would follow suit 😊

Delphinium20 · 24/03/2023 03:49

Every time I think of Caster and the rest of the males with a DSD who competed, I wonder about those unknown women who lost out on an opportunity to compete in the Olympics for their country. There is a woman in Burundia, a woman in Kenya, 2 women in Namibia, a woman in Ethiopia and a woman in South Africa who lost their chance to be part of Olympic history because the world chose to shut their eyes and ears. Women being erased, pushed out, overlooked, ignored, and walked over shouldn't be our birthright.

PorcelinaV · 24/03/2023 05:49

One of the strange objections to this is that they admitted that there aren't any trans-women competing today.

So that should make any difference to the rules? Or isn't better to have rules in place before there is a trans-woman, and they then need to be kicked out of competing at a later stage?

Birdsweepsin · 24/03/2023 06:01

I have been trying to find what is generally the justification for including amab trans athletes in female categories.
Ie that inclusion v fairness balance. How do you tip away from fairness? Who genuinely wants unfair sport?

I found this (here: https://www.genderjustice.us/get-the-facts-trans-equity-in-sports/ )

Delphinium20 · 24/03/2023 06:30

That's some serious Orwellian language from Gender Justice. How can they write that dreck?

NeedToKnow101 · 24/03/2023 06:42

Justin Webb just corrected the Guardian's headline on it, saying 'of course they're not excluded from competing, but from competing in women's sports,'
👏👏👏👏👏👏

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 24/03/2023 06:50

I also get annoyed at ‘choosing fairness over inclusion’. Having women’s sports ensures the inclusion of women. If there were no protected female category, women would not win medals.

it wouldn’t be seen as ‘inclusive’ to allow able bodied athletes in the paralympics.

The fact that there is a category is what provides the inclusion. Protecting that category protects inclusion.

If transwomen have a demonstrable disadvantage compared to men who are not transwomen, then maybe they should create a separate category.

https://extra.ie/2022/09/09/news/transgender-gaa-player-speaks-out

In Ireland this man in the image (who claims he's a woman.) has been allowed play womans football, the GAA have allowed trans comete on women's teams. This man still has a penis, is on no hormone medication & hasn't even the respect for women to even slap a bit of make up or try to feminise himself..
Imagine a tackle from him, a woman would have no chance. Prior to this he played women's rugby... The mind boggles....

Justin Webb will be interviewing Lord Coe at around 7.40 am on R4 Today (so in about 10 minutes).

WarningToTheCurious · 24/03/2023 07:33

On now - 7.33 am.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 24/03/2023 07:41

Facts
Trans athletes have been competing in sports for decades without issue. Organizations like the International Olympic Committee, International Powerlifting Federation, the International Weightlifting Federation, the NCAA, the Olympics, and the Minnesota State High School League, all have policies allowing trans athletes to compete
From Gender Justice - the Olympics so inclusive they named it twice.

Just because some organisations allow something doesn't mean it's right or fair. I note they don't list the (growing, slowly but growing) list of sporting bodies that are protecting women's sport. I've never seem such mealy mouthed drivel labelled as "facts".

Helleofabore · 24/03/2023 07:44

Pixiedust1234 · 23/03/2023 17:27

To the posters saying its a shame about the DSD athletes. Just how many are there competing at top level?

When an event such as the 800 m in Rio had all medal winners with male DSDs, how many seems to be irrelevant.

And I would be interested to know if any world records set such as Mboma will be revoked.

Birdsweepsin · 24/03/2023 07:44

That whole Radio Four interview can be summed up as Seb Coe saying "we listened to women for once"

Mommymoments · 24/03/2023 07:46

@Birdsweepsin for once... I think he's right. Trans "women" always shout louder than us & when we try to stick up for ourselves we get called Transphobic & bigots.

I'm stunned at that article and the gas lighting that is used to shut women down. Even if a trans woman is still intact and have a penis, they're still a woman. Bloody hell, it's just mad.

Mommymoments · 24/03/2023 08:07

Just look the the irish GAA link & accompanying photo a few posts up. This man is playing on a women's team & also has access to the women's facilities..
