Tweets to KitchenAidUSA are very critical. Did any of you know this - I ask because Kitchen Aid in general is popular among Mumsnetters.

I'm a long time lurker and this is my first post on this board.
I'm pretty upset.

Actually what better way to illustrate the Germaine Greer quote "Female is real and it's sex, femininity is fake and it's gender"

@WarningToTheCurious " KitchenAid is a huge brand in the UK - have you never watched Bake Off or ventured into John Lewis? "

Errrm, no...
... and indeed, no!

Never seen it, never been in one, we don't have a J. Lewis where i live.
I sort of get the feeling that it's probably like a middle class purveyor of fine tat at needlessly high prices, a bit like M&S, whereas, i'm more your common or garden ASDA or Morrisons type of girl, do you see?

Yeah, you sound more Argos than John Lewis.

Funnily enough, guess who sells KitchenAid ….

pawz · 14/03/2023 07:09

That's really upset me - I bloody love my kitchen aid, it was a wedding present.

I severely dislike Dylan - "day 300 of being a girl" and it's all facial surgery and wearing dresses. It makes me feel annoyed and sort of like I'm being mocked.

Almahart · 14/03/2023 07:13

How fucking depressing and retrogade is this. As pp says, the closest thing they can find to a 1950s housewife.

I've always struggled to articulate what it is that I dislike about this sort of thing, and you've just done it for me , brilliantly.
Yes, it is like being mocked. Like he's sticking two fingers up at us all, saying, 'see? It's soooo easy to be a woman'.
Thank you.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 14/03/2023 07:29

@pawz

And I too, love my KitchenAid 😞

MoltenLasagne · 14/03/2023 07:30

I mean, this feels firmly on brand for Kitchen Aid to me. All about the shine and not the substance and promoting some faux pastiche of 1950s femininity.

NetballMumGrrr · 14/03/2023 07:33

Woah!!! Looking for a new kettle and I was admiring the kitchen aid one. Save myself a few squid then!

Not to derail the thread but kettle recommendations welcome. I wanted a cream one!

It's so hard isn't it! I obviously am not going to bin a wedding present (and gravely offend MIL!) but I just won't buy the new accessories for it that I wanted and won't support further.

I was made to feel so unreasonable by friends for being uncomfortable - it took me a while to get through to them that it felt like mocking, that it isn't the actual lived female experience, just a caricature of what a man thinks one is.

It's worse that that sort of attitude and online content is getting recognised and lauded now - invites to the White House, company sponsorships etc. Hopefully one day others will realise!

Common. Yes, definitely.

Nothing like a bit of good old-fashioned inverted snobbery! FYI John Lewis' strapline used to be "Never Knowingly Undersold", which I'll translate for you - "we are cheaper than anyone else".

FrancescaContini · 14/03/2023 07:55

Nothing more womanly than hugging your KitchenAid to your bosom.

Exactly that. They couldn't have found a better fit for their brand if they tried.

TBH this is something I can't get worked up about. The base assumption that a food mixer is a female product is the issue here, not that someone who doesn't have a vag is advertising it (soz Dylan. It's not a vag mate.) This is also not a person who does a lot of cooking or eating...

piedbeauty · 14/03/2023 08:07

It's stupid. Why ask any woman who actually cooks to advertise it? Crappy marketing decision.

WarningToTheCurious · 14/03/2023 08:24

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2023 07:48

Dualit.

Dualit isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either.

I had a coffee maker that died after about 2 years (fortunately Costco honoured their 5 year guarantee), and a 4 slot toaster that half died just out of its John Lewis guarantee.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 14/03/2023 08:26

I wonder if we're all looking at the advertising the wrong way.

What Kitchen Aid are actually saying is "our product is so easy to use even someone like Dylan can manage to use it"

Clutching at straws here.

SinnerBoy · 14/03/2023 08:32

My favourite response was this:

Who at KitchenAidUSA said 'Hey, let's pay that cadaverous haunted mannequin who offends women, to stand near our products looking like the snake about to eat Mowgli in the Jungle Book.'

SinnerBoy · 14/03/2023 08:33

On kettles, we've got a Bosch multi temperature one, 80° C to 100° C in 5° increments. It was about £84, from Currys.

IcakethereforeIam · 14/03/2023 08:33

It's a dreadful picture too, clashing colours, tiny space, Mulvany looks terrified of the thing.

I've always fancied a stand mixer but my tiny kitchen doesn't have room for one. This makes coping with my Kenwood chefette ( inherited from my mum and older than me) and the stick blender (that my sister gave me because it scared her) so much easier.

Thanks to that face, I've now got Black Hole Sun stuck in my head. So...not all bad.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/03/2023 08:34

As if Dylan would ever use one.

Does Dylan even eat?

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2023 08:43

The whole thing looks very tense. Wobbling table, a 'fruit phobic' freaking out over some blueberries, the slightly manic expression. It's all a bit cringe, tbh.

ArabellaScott · 14/03/2023 08:52

Get up off your knees, Drew.

Thanks for the alternative mixer suggestions.
