Anyone know the truth about the protests against Drag storytime at the Honor Oak Pub?

WHY DO CHILDREN NEED STORIES READ TO THEM BY DRAG QUEENS?

This is the pressing question above all!

Anyway, does anyone local know what actually happened. There was a police presence and organised protests apparently. I would love to hear the full story from someone directly involved.

It has become an unbecoming row on our local Facebook page (SE23 Mums). The hectoring posts have been created by the pro drag side.

I was really disappointed to see that the two women from Scummy Mummies comedy duo were supporting the DQST and just claiming everyone against it as being right wing. They were there supporting Honor Oak. I was trying to understand more about who the drag queen was, I couldn't find much about them, ThisGirlDrag?

I know this pub but didn’t know about protests

So looking at pics did someone try to stop the story time and the protestors turned up with don’t let right wing win placards

I saw the Scummy Mummies post and saw other people I know supporting the DQST which I was disappointed by. It looks like there were a lot of people there in support of the Drag story time.

Well this is what is odd Mrs Jamin. Apparently I am right wing because I don't like drag queens the idea of drag queens reading stories to children. Why even is it a thing? Are drag queens down on their uppers or something?

One of the Scummy Mummies has a daughter who cut her hair. So we all know what that is likely to mean.

Tbh it feels like trolling now, I just don’t see why it’s a ‘thing’ that’s somehow indicative of inclusion or whatever.

Drag, as a form of entertainment, just doesn’t really follow any logical path to a kids story time. At its most family friendly (panto) it’s usually full of innuendo which doesn’t translate to reading out the gruffulo imho.

A very small number of protestors from Turning Point UK were there and there was a massive counter-protest from the local community to show support for the pub and the drag queens.

I read about this on the scummy mummies Facebook page. I'm against it so now feel a bit more conflicted about scummy mummies. I was going to go and see them again but might not now. Just because I'm against it doesn't mean I'm right wing about other issues.

I'm not bloody right wing. And Ellie and Helen can bollocks defending this nonsense.

I honestly can't understand why probably very good people can't engage their brains about this. It's genuinely mystifying to me. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny.

In a nutshell. But to raise concerns is to be a fascist and a Trump supporter apparently. How fucking ODD!

Children don’t need stories read to them by drag queens.

But nor do they need to see the hysterical hate filled mobs of Daily Mail readers and other assorted morons who organise noisy and terrifying protests at events where they know that children will be attending.

The willingness of protesters to frighten and endanger children shows clearly that any claims that they care about the wellbeing or safety of children are facile and disingenuous nonsense. The protests are conducted solely for the purpose of intimidation.

If you don’t want drag queens to read stories to your children then don’t go to those events. That’s a perfectly valid choice that you are entitled to make as a parent. But if other families make different choices then you should respect their decisions and leave them in peace.

How was this an event for children, in a pub, with drag artists? That's not a usual set up for a children's activity. Were any children even there?

From what I've seen on Twitter, the anti-DQST protestors were massively outnumbered by pro-DQST people. I can't imagine what the children made of it.

You might like to listen to Helen Joyce here OP at about 40 mins in I think. She talks about why DQSH is inficttt try instinct children. She also explains how it isn’t just the same as panto. Her explanation as to why parents go for it is, “Cool, Mum.”
If you listen a bit earlier in they talk about Queer theory.

Drag Queen Story Tome Grooming in Plaim Sight

This video is from a drag queen. On the site he writes:

But why do drag queens want to read children stories? No one from DQST has answered this satisfactorily yet.

So was it:

Drag queen story time promoted as an event.

Some local people objected.

Then when the event goes ahead - which protest group was larger? Pro or anti? Isn't it awful that police had to be engaged in something that's supposed to be a benign activity for children.

Those who are pro - why do they THINK people protest? Just because they are Daily Mail reading Trump supporting fascists? Surely not.
