Rosie Duffield Support thread

I've searched everywhere for a thread about this amazing and brave MP, but couldn't find one.

Am I missing something? She supports the blocking of the new Scottish GR Bill and was cheered by her own MPs.

She seems an amazing and strong woman, wish she was my MP. I'm going to write and thank her.

I was quite surprised to see Tony Robinson (Baldrick / Time team) retweet Rosie. I had him pegged as a virtue sigalling labour-luvvie.

Me too! But he Tweeted ‘Go Rosie’. I actually looked him up on Twitter to see his reaction to this. He was on the Labour NEC wasn’t he?

PopGoesTheProsecco · 26/01/2023 19:21

And I mean he said ‘Go Rosie’ in a supportive way.

MamanetNanna · 27/01/2023 14:14

The Labour Party has ALWAYS been led by loud men, and therein lies their problem. They SAY they support women, but when it comes to supporting the lovely Rosie Duffield, and actually listening to her, they disappear up their own a-holes. That's why I can never vote Labour, as the party stands right now. Never.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 27/01/2023 14:21

So pleased to hear Tony Robinson isn’t a twerp on this

and as for RD’s tone being wrong…

Kevin Macguire on Piers Morgan saying what’s “wrong” with Rosie Duffield is her “tone”!

inspired the following (not by me: used by permission)

It’s not what she said, it’s the way that she said it
It’s not what she said, it’s the time that she said it
It’s not what she said it’s the fact that she said it

From the Times

JK Rowling, the Harry Potter author who was once one of Labour’s largest donors, is understood to have ruled out giving the party any further financial backing ahead of the election. Rowling, who is friends with Duffield and has been vocal in her support, is understood to have offered to help the MP to stand as an independent should she decide to leave the party. However, Duffield, who has previously said she has been “tempted” to defect to the Tories, has made clear to colleagues that she wishes to remain a Labour MP.

Please Rosie we're begging you! PLEASE take up Jo's offer!

I fear that she wouldn’t get elected as an independent. She’s my MP. I think she’s great (her office has been incredibly supportive with my issue with CAMHS).

She managed to turn the villages red in 2017. It wasn’t just the student vote. But as an independent I’m not sure she’d get the vote and we don’t want another bloody Tory as the Canterbury MP.

She's despised on the Canterbury residents facebook group, which is admittedly 99% comprised of posts that either complain about immigrants or virtue signal about giving homeless people a bread roll. Sadly I don't think she'll be re-elected.

worth listening to second item on R4’s Westminster Hour. Peter Kyle, who is shadow NI secretary and definitely on Starmer’s side spoke in support of his friend Rosie Duffield. He is polar opposite of Lloyd Russel Moyle, separated in constituency terms by Caroline Lucas.
But his we need to talk rings slightly hollow when one side is shouting down the other

She increased her vote in 2019 though- bucking the trend for Labour.

I don’t find FB groups a particularly good index of how people are actually going to vote.

In my area UKIP looked like a cert a few years back if you looked at Facebook - it was just a few loudmouths with way too much time sounding off instead of doing anything to get the vote out of make the arguments.

Everyone is despised on every local facebook residents page. Especially people who park on a kerb, close to a junction, and especially if they leave a dog poo on the pavement.

All very important stuff.

PMQs today. In a parry over the Raab/bullying allegations, PM Sunak had a go at Starmer for not supporting a female Labour MP. He didn't name RD, but it's clear who he meant. He described a member of Starmer's party been forced to speak out, because being in the Labour Party reminded her of being in an abusive relationship; and then Starmer's own office undermining her. Sunak said he ought to be standing up for the women in his party. Starmer didn't respond to the point, which Sunak then pointed out. Sunak said at least he had instated an investigation when he learned of bullying within his own party. Starmer again ignored the matter.

Tinysoxxx · 01/02/2023 12:53

I saw that and thought Starmer should address it. Made him look weak. Angela Rayner doing her best poker face. He really does need to get behind Rosie. A lot of women are watching.

Our local FB and Next Door pages are the same. There's an 'Independent Candidate' who's barely literate currently dominating the local chat, who will be lucky to poll a hundred votes in the council elections in May, if that.

I must remember to ask him his stance on the gender woo, and see if he has even 1% of Rosie Duffield's bravery.

Lovely! Not that I hold any brief to defend Sunak and the Tories, but if they're going to take that tack, they think there are votes in it. And if there are votes in it, Starmer's going to have to do something eventually.

Proudtobeabitch · 09/05/2023 13:41

Rosie Duffield is a heroine.

I don't know who makes me more upset; misogynists like Lloyd Russell-Moyle hiding behind his ' You cant touch me I'm gay' cloak or actual women who pile in on other women, simply for telling the truth. We are living in Orwellian times; the truth police say trans-women are women. 'Sorry, mate but you aren't a woman'
No-one should be abused/violently attacked for any reason but the plight of trans people has been greatly exaggerated. Please read an article by Tish Still in Unherd. Actual numbers ( not misleading statistics )

UK murders 2008 to 2017

Murder of Trans-women = 9
Murder of real women = 1800!

No wonder a woman is murdered every 3 days in the UK when cowards like Kier Starmer can't even say what a woman is. I will not vote for anyone who cant tell the truth. I will not vote for or buy products from, anyone who perpetuates this lie. I am 5ft 4" and I was sexually assaulted just walking home after work, when I was 22 . Last year my daughter was spiked by needle at at concert. Women must support each other.

Ramblingnamechanger · 09/05/2023 15:16

After the recent Questions to Kier and Angela in the Daily Mirror, I am not convinced I will vote for them any time soon.
