Rosie Duffield Support thread

I've searched everywhere for a thread about this amazing and brave MP, but couldn't find one.

Am I missing something? She supports the blocking of the new Scottish GR Bill and was cheered by her own MPs.

She seems an amazing and strong woman, wish she was my MP. I'm going to write and thank her.

She is awe-inspiring. She entered the fight very early, and she received the immense negative response early fighters all did (many still lose their jobs etc., but it was worse still then).

She has ovaries of steel and titanium.

DOBARDAN · 19/01/2023 20:07

More power to you, Rosie Duffield, you are an amazing woman, please keep fighting for what you, and many others, believe in, it is much appreciated.

AlisonDonut · 19/01/2023 20:21

The Labour Party is not a safe place for women and hasn't been for years.

If telling Keir to eat shit doesn't make him get off the fence, when he is their biggest chance of getting all they want, and start to support women then I have absolutely no hope for him.

Rosie is awesome, and I wish her all the best. She needs to get together with all the rare politicians and form a new party that recognises biological sex as a concept and works to actually sort the shitshow out.

bellinisurge · 19/01/2023 20:26

She's brilliant. So calm. I'm so sorry that Labour are letting her down. I have a Labour MP. I'm spoiling my ballot next time. I wouldn't if I heard one word of support from him for Rosie. I'd vote Labour. Even though he's pissed me off on a local issue. I'm desperate to vote Labour.

MorvenOfMalvern · 19/01/2023 21:12

Found this form to complain with. Interestingly, and surprisingly you can tick a box to say you're complaining about sexism and misogyny!

labour.org.uk/complaints/making-a-complaint/

There's almost too many of them to complain about...

Article with Rosie in UnHerd

teawamutu · 20/01/2023 10:24

I've just sent her a thank you card to the House of Commons. And put in a complaint to Labour on the grounds of sexism, campaigning against the Labour Party and defamation.

OMG this gave me goosebumps.

She is incredible!!

Thanks for the article link. Fantastic, but also depressing for her to have to write this in 2023.

ResisterRex · 20/01/2023 15:10

In the UnHerd article, Rosie says:

"I was defending the need to protect vulnerable women in single-sex spaces, and had just criticised Scotland’s Gender Reform Bill, when Ben Bradshaw yelled his disapproval at me. Sitting nearby, Lloyd Russell-Moyle went puce — perhaps less surprising — and started to heckle every woman who spoke of their similar concerns. Later, when Miriam Cates, a Conservative MP and friend, spoke of her concerns around safeguarding, he accused her of being a bigot before crossing over to the Tory side of the Chamber to sit on the side benches, very close to her, staring as if to intimidate her."

There are pictures of this:

I also see that Rosie got no support, just a bollocking:

"The only message I’ve had from the Party since the debate was from the Deputy Whips’ office yesterday — I was chastised for not attending a routine Statutory Instruments Committee sitting because… I was busy being shouted down by two Labour MPs and completely forgot."

MorvenOfMalvern · 20/01/2023 15:16

@ResisterRex those photos have my heart racing.

This is surely a police issue? That is blatant harrassment? No?

If a man did this to me on the tube I'd report to the police.

ResisterRex · 20/01/2023 15:33

It must be quite complicated because they're not employees, and I don't think the police can / do interfere in things that happen in the Commons. But ofc no one would expect an MP to behave in this way to another MP.

He should lose the whip, IMO. This has to be the last straw. But he won't cos Starmer won't have the balls to do it.

MorvenOfMalvern · 20/01/2023 15:36

So can someone be assaulted in the commons for eg and no police action? Is it only in the chamber? If someone was attacked in the foyer or the toilets?

That's actually a really scary and significant issue for women considering being MPs?

cravingtoblerone · 20/01/2023 15:47

Thank you to both Rosie Duffield and Miriam Cates.

Such sensible, principled people should be supported at all costs.

Good to see!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2023 22:52

I'll be interested to see how that lands.

AtrociousCircumstance · 20/01/2023 22:57

Rosie, thank you ❤️

Whyjustwhy123 · 20/01/2023 23:28

Rosie you are not alone. I’m so angry on your behalf having voted Labour all my life I’m currently in a political wilderness at a time when the country needs radical change from the current leadership. But I can’t, just can’t comprehend voting for a party who are potentially going to do so much damage to womens and girls rights and safety.

But absolutely no bloody chance I’ll vote Tory either. 😩

So I’ll be spoiling my ballot in the next election unless Kier wakes up.

Abhannmor · 21/01/2023 06:40

It was during a YouTube argument about Rosie that Owen Jones blocked me. I should write to thank her!

WarriorN · 21/01/2023 07:59

I'll be fucked off if woman's hour doesn't cover this next week.

EB would.

Slothtoes · 21/01/2023 08:15

I just can’t vote Tory ever because I care about public services and help for vulnerable groups. Rosie Duffield is one of the reasons why I can continue to vote Labour. Thank god for her. Shes like a little island of rationality in a sea of horrible craziness. I am so sorry for all the abuse she gets and just really hope that in a reshuffled Labour Party in the future she gets a really prominent senior role.

It’s disgusting and shameful the abuse and the silence from her Labour colleagues. These dangerous luxury beliefs are so so anti-safeguarding. They are transparently about further privileging established male privilege.

It is horrible to watch these Labour politicians indulging their own aggressive misogyny in this way. How are their local selection committees still supporting these awful candidates?

I say all this in full understanding that every political party has a good cohort of rampant misogynists otherwise we wouldn’t be in the state we’re in on this issue nationally. But I can’t help wanting and expecting so, so much better from Labour.

Floisme · 21/01/2023 08:45

This would be a really good moment for all those 'undercover' gender critical Labour MPs we keep hearing about on other threads - about 30 if I remember correctly - to find their voice.

This is a really good point.
