There's an active petition you can sign to this effect, if you're so inclined.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to link to it directly? Anyway, if you enter this thread's title into Google, it should come up.

Signed. Pleased that my constituency, Brighton Pavillion, has one of the highest rates of people signing.

13500 now hasn't been a day yet. Hope it makes it to 100,000 a debate would be great.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 03/11/2022 03:49

What would they debate? If only the Tories (mostly)agree then how would a debate work? Do they let Maya wave that big gold lance thing around at them?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 03/11/2022 04:35

Do we know what a typical petiton engagement pattern is? Edinburgh south has 0.013%, in less than 24 hours. How significant is that? For a Labour seat, too, not SNP.

Don’t know the answer but really interested in this too. Loving seeing the numbers going up!

Petition map is turning a glorious yellow ochre with crimson highlights

I’m finding the ‘hotspots’ on the map very interesting. There is an interesting analysis there in terms of pushback.

peachescariad · 03/11/2022 12:50

Bump & shared...and watching!

ArabellaScott · 03/11/2022 12:51

The numbers signing has surprised me. It would have seemed like quite a niche subject - asking parliament to make a very specific change to a specific law, for a specific reason.

Yet over 17k have signed in under a day.

Yes, I was surprised to see Caroline Lucas’ Brighton constituency is lit up red. Perhaps some these areas see the issues unfolding in real life, at the sharp end, in their local services and schools.

Making the law say what I would imagine most people think it means anyway!
The hotspots on the map to a large extent correlate with places where people have been made to realise the law needs clarifying.

Some Welsh constituencies near Cardiff are worth zooming in on. As is Bath, Cambridge, Norwich South, Hornsey and Wood Green

The places lighting up red are some of the traditionally liberal / progressive areas in the country! If that holds true - and its not a right wing backlash, I would expect lower levels of signatories in 'red wall' seats / provisional towns. Along economic lines, more affluent middle class areas will have more signatories too.

These are LABOUR type areas. Or areas with traditionally high LD voting patterns. NOT Conservative areas.

Calderdale (Hebdon Bridge) is a dead giveaway for whats happening though.

I'd put money on there being a shed load of gay representation in the signatories. They will be the most aware of the petition and amongst the most politically engaged.

There are people who should look at this and hang their heads in shame in terms of representation.

LuciferRising · 03/11/2022 13:31

Only 22 in my area.
