There's an active petition you can sign to this effect, if you're so inclined.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to link to it directly? Anyway, if you enter this thread's title into Google, it should come up.

Signed. Let’s hope it reaches the target 10,000.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/11/2022 16:56

Signed.

I think it should also actually say, no exception for GRC.

After all a GRC has the power to change ‘sex’ on the birth certificate, unless I am mistaken. What should be more clear about biology than a birth certificate?
(Please put me right if anyone here with legal knowledge thinks I have misunderstood this.)

Signed, it is going up fairly quickly.

Madcats · 02/11/2022 17:25

I'd just popped over here to write a post. 6,462 signatures since lunchtime(ish) and counting.

It must surely reach 10k by tomorrow morning.

ArabellaScott · 02/11/2022 17:31

Wow, it's going up really fast.

ScrollingLeaves I thought that bit was in the text?

'The Government must exercise its power under s.23 of the Gender Recognition Act to modify the operation of the Equality Act 2010 by specifying the terms sex, male, female, man & woman, in the operation of that law, mean biological sex and not "sex as modified by a Gender Recognition Certificate"

The Equality Act 2010 covers nine separate protected characteristics, including “Sex” & “Gender Reassignment”. This protects people against sex discrimination and discrimination because a person is transgender.

There has been much confusion about how the Equality Act and GRA interact. This has caused uncertainty and conflict for women, transgender people, and service providers. The GRA includes a provision to amend other laws to make it clear whether a GRC changes the definition of sex for that law.'

TBH I think the whole thing needs far more scrutiny. It's vague, bad, law.

HopRockers · 02/11/2022 17:36

Excellent (until we can repeal the GRA travesty of law)

Can I suggest that Scrolling's is the petition thread to bump as the title makes the content clear to others.

If you sign are your details public? Sadly I can’t be public about anything GC.

nilsmousehammer · 02/11/2022 17:42

Signed. Sex and gender must be separated. Society can't pretend otherwise at such a cost to female people, for the sake of a small group of male people who cannot be persuaded to care about female people by themselves. Or even hear female people talk about the impact on them without screaming abuse and threats. Enough now.

Thank you very much Arabella, I had missed that. I am glad that the text rules out biological sex as modified by the Gender Recognition Act.
