Standing for women - Portland rally cancelled over violent threats

ArabellaScott · 26/10/2022 13:59

Not quite sure what's happened - seems there were credible threats to women's lives over these protests.

twitter.com/StandingforXX

Now it seems a few women went ahead and met up and were attacked. (Nobody seriously hurt as far as I can tell)

Hoping everyone is safe and well.

Silly string and custard pies are bad - pepper spray is worse.

www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article267901542.html

Broken hands are even worse.

Another male perspective.

Really? The fear of not actually knowing what is being thrown / sprayed at you is somehow different for silly string, pies and pepper spray? Certainly the pepper spray may have more obvious and lasting side effects. But I think that it is pretty fucked up to deny the fear in the first instance is not exactly the same.

There is no hierarchy that is acceptable here.

That you think there is, says everything about your perspective.

Helleofabore · 01/11/2022 12:33

What is it do you think that is the similarity of those posters dismissing the violence against the women who are speaking at these events?

I am not going to post it because it will no doubt be deleted. But I think it might be a pattern that is becoming very obvious.

They protested outside a school and pepper sprayed a bunch of kids. From a group whose leader pals around with white surpremacists, it's not a surprise, and it's pretty ridiculous to claim the moral high ground.

No it isn't. Are you new? There is no main feminism board. There is feminism: sex and gender. And feminism: chat. There are only two boards.

The reason for this is people tried to shut down the discussion about women's rights with regard to trans ideology. Saying they didn't want to hear it, it was too niche, just like a few on this thread.

So Mumsnet obliged by splitting the feminism board into discussion about sex and gender and discussion of general chat.

But, of course, that wasn't the aim of the dissenters and, unfortunately for them, the sex and gender board is now more popular, as was predicted.

The aim was to stop talk of it all together. Although, I will never understand how drawing attention to it helps with that!

🤣🤣🤣

crikey, I didn't think it was possible, but it's getting even more ridiculous.

@DadJoke you’re about 3days too late. Been there done that got the adult human female teeshirts. Bore off dear. There’s a lamb

ItsLateHumpty · 01/11/2022 12:46

Im pretty sure the undercover cop was the first to mace / pepper spray anyone - but ACAB right….

So, I’m pretty sure y’all will distance yourself before the stink sticks.

ACAB 👊

Muppets 🤦

Thats not how MNHQ intended it

some people complained about the feminism and womans rights board having threads that they didn’t like (because they would like lots of other different threads) and so MNHQ created two boards with new names (obviously keeping all the old threads on one of them)

then all the people that complained moved to the feminism sex and gender board and complained some more

I suggest you read the thread, probably plug in the name of the school to see just where the school is located compared to the square the women were speaking.

I also suggest you watch the videos and tell us exactly who initiated violence and which 'kids' got pepper sprayed and by whom. And by the way, if you have evidence it was a woman who spoke or supported those speaking at the event that 'sprayed' a 'kid', please provide it.

I then suggest that if you want to continue with the 'pals around with white supremacists' shall we pick up with the Peter Tatchell, Jacob Breslow and Allyn Walker discussion that didn't really progress so far last night.

You have entered onto a thread, which you are most welcome to be on, but have just repeated misinformation, hyperbole and some pretty hypocritical thinking.

And yet you talk about 'moral high grounds'.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 01/11/2022 12:48

Oh my god it took so long for me to type my post that datun beat me to it

Helleofabore · 01/11/2022 12:50

yes. It is hilarious.

Now a poster is trying to tell us off that issues that have come about due to KJK's trip to the US is on the 'other' board too. Like we care.

Both with the prefix "Feminism", maybe MNHQ separating 'Feminism' and 'Women's Rights' into two seperate boards would be the solution moving forwards

yeah…I don’t reckon it would be

and if i were MNHQ I’d be wondering exactly what it take to please some people

(I know EXACTLY what it would take 😉)

Or shall we talk about Germaine Greer vile comments about teenage boys? Or James Cantor and Ray Blanchard, on whose work much of gender critical ideology is based, and their paedopjile sympathies? Or Hands Across The Aisle founder Kaeley Triller narrowly avoiding a conviction for statutory rape after having sex with a minor she had previously been a school counsellor for? Or the accusations of sexual abuse that have flown around during the internecine conflicts within gender critical activism?

Or shall we avoid pointless discussions about guilt by association and focus on whether it was the right decision for Kellie Jay to employ men with guns to strut round at a controversial demo from a company led by a man linked to an extremist militia group? Men who wore far right symbols on their uniforms. What does this tell us about the kind of people she is associating with over there? What would those men have done if a trans kid, or a kid of colour did something stupid liked sprayed them with silly string? What does it tell us about how seriously she took the allegations from children that they had been violently assaulted?

It used to be women's rights. If you look at the actual web address it still is.

Does it really matter? Are you so against a woman who says she isn't a feminist but who actually puts herself in harms way to publicise the harms that ae being done to women and kids that you feel we cannot talk about what she does on the incorrect board of a forum?

Do you have other control issues in your life because this is absolute batshit.

I'm pretty sure custard pies and silly string aren't banned by the Geneva Convention.

Can you explain how you know what projective is coming for you before it comes for you?

And whilst you are at it, what are the lottery numbers for next week, thanks.

Yet it is YOU who is using guilt by association. You and other posters who cannot make any other valid arguments.

And who continue to dismiss violence against the women who were speaking or supporting those who did.

Sure, go ahead and ask for that. I think that was a suggestion at the time. Your lot didn't want it.

it doesn't matter what you call it. Behind AIBU and possibly relationships, I think it's the most popular board on the site.

IcakethereforeIam · 01/11/2022 13:10

The Geneva Conventions are four treaties, and three additional protocols, that establish international legal standards for humanitarian treatment in war.

We at war now?

Still dismissing violence against women.
