Well that's one less beardy man on there defending rape and death threats.

Gets the tiny violin out

What did he say? I saw the interview video where he was talking about cancel culture but he didn't "attack " her and I actually. agreed with some points he made about cancel culture and how nobody cares about his views on transgenderism but there should be a dialogue from experts etc.

I'm assuming this attack is after that?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 17/10/2022 12:52

To be fair, I regard leaving twitter as a mark of common sense

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/10/2022 13:10

He literally said listen to trans people and not celebrities. He didn't "attack" her.
Neither did he say anything at all about death and rape threats, never even mentioned anything about that at all or condoned them in the slightest.
Unless just saying something as innocuous as listen to trans people, and that there should be accountability to when online is now saying that you condone rape and death threats?!
If so WTF.
Did you actually listen to what he said, watch the interview?

Just seen this, exactly.
Are you referring to something else after the interview, OP?
Because nothing of what you've said is true in the slightest

CuriousCatfish · 17/10/2022 13:15

Why has he deleted his Twitter? Was he getting abuse?

CuriousCatfish · 17/10/2022 13:18

I can't see anything wrong with what he said?

And what is a beardy man?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/10/2022 13:18

The experts in womanhood would be actual women but that wasn’t what graham meant when he said listen to experts was it.

hes done the usual beardy bloke of implying JKR said horrid awful things without being in any way specific about what she actually said (because he couldn’t find anything obviously) I’ve 0 fucking sympathy

DoubleShotEspresso · 17/10/2022 13:19

Oh well I can't say I'll lose sleep here

TheKeatingFive · 17/10/2022 13:19

He literally said listen to trans people and not celebrities. He didn't "attack" her.

But don't listen to women, which she is.

Particularly not female victims of male abuse, which she is.

For all the 'importance of lived experiences', no one gives two shits if it's women's experiences, right?

message received loud and clear

CuriousCatfish · 17/10/2022 13:15

Why has he deleted his Twitter? Was he getting abuse?

Someone on Twitter reported that he had donated £1,500 to a young woman to help fund her double mastectomy, thus suggesting it was not entirely accurate to claim (as he did) that he had never engaged with or had any involvement in trans issues.

TheKeatingFive · 17/10/2022 13:20

Deleting Twitter is a good move both for himself and humanity at large, so that's a positive at least.

ByTheGrace · 17/10/2022 13:28

I'm a bit uneasy about this one, looking at all the latest Tweets about this and there are so many in support of him. This could back fire on JK, I really hope it doesn't.
But his comments have seemed really measured (albeit fence sitting) there doesn't really seem any explanation of what has happened. Twitter suggests he helped fund a mastectomy (as did Stephen Fry), was mean to Jade Goody and hasn't stood up for Graham Lineham. Not really grounds for cancellation.

TheKeatingFive · 17/10/2022 13:29

Not really grounds for cancellation.

This looks like self cancellation in fairness

Gloryofthe80s · 17/10/2022 13:30

I’ve missed this. What did he say? Was he getting abuse? From who? I used to like him.

ArcaneWireless · 17/10/2022 13:31

🎻

Some in the public eye could back women in the public eye who fight the fight for women everywhere.

There is nothing wrong in being pro women. There is nothing wrong in saying that either.

Plenty wrong in staying silent though or choosing not to discuss someone’s view.

It just allows those running with their own narrative to keep on trucking.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/10/2022 13:33

No idea if he did or didn't contribute to that, but even if he did, the interview didn't say anything at all like he had never engaged with trans issues?! It said listen to trans people on their issues, and not celebrities, he didn't say anything at all about never being involved with supporting trans people in the past.
Not sure whether people are misunderstanding on purpose, genuinely don't know what they're talking about as they haven't watched the interview, or are referring to something else entirely that he said afterwards?! As it wasn't in the clip 😕

I call it self accountability.

Feyrethefae · 17/10/2022 13:36

His response was measured, intelligent, reasonable and I agree with him entirely. JKR put vile words in his mouth when he said or implied nothing of the sort. I feel very sorry for him.

TheKeatingFive · 17/10/2022 13:37

JKR put vile words in his mouth when he said or implied nothing of the sort.

In what way please?

AgathaAllAlong · 17/10/2022 13:38

Ridiculous. All he said when asked was: "cancel culture" often is just consequences for actions, I have nothing to say on this topic and don't want to make headlines, talk to experts and trans people instead. If we jump on him for this we are as bad as the people who jump on us for being TERFS.

WolverineBlueyy · 17/10/2022 13:39

It looks like a calculated flounce. If he even really runs the account, he'll be back to plug his shows and Eurovision soon enough. He needs Twitter in that respect.
He could have easily just taken a break and stepped back Jack Monroe-style and nobody would have raised an eyebrow. Now you can see the usual unpleasant suspects howling that evil JKR and her flying monkeys have forced poor old Graham off. Women get the blame again.

I've only had half an eye on this to be honest, don't know what sort of abuse he may have been getting to delete his account. Just staggered by the hate, as whatever his intent JKR is further demonised by the hard of thinking.

It's being framed as "hounded off Twitter" and there was an apparent GC pile on, but he'd gone before I saw it.
There's been so much support for GC views on Twitter lately and so many demented TRAs giving much sunlight. But as someone put it, everyone's granny loves Graham Norton and people are going to defend him.

KatMcBundleFace · 17/10/2022 13:40

"He literally said listen to trans people and not celebrities. He didn't "attack" her."

He's literally a celebrity, he makes his living being moderately amusing and slightly bitchy. So NEWS FLASH I don't give a 💩 what that little misogynist has to say.

He only got involved because he got grief for having Jo on his show. He was horribly rude about her in that Times article.

I'm pissed off my licence fee goes to paying unprofessional twerps like Norton. I'll be happy if I never hear that snigger again.
