Just posted on Twitter. The usual suspects are all over the replies, obviously, so give her some support if you can—but there's a surprising amount of balance. Seems to me that the scales have finally started to tip.

It was always going to be sunlight.

---WOMEN OF THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name! They don’t call us “women” anymore; they call us “birthing people” or “menstruators”, and even “people with vaginas”!
Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!---

Yay! Thank you so much to Bette and Macey! I went out for dinner with friends last month & the conversation turned to gender ID. Everybody went quiet, didn't say much, made noises about inclusion and being kind.

I thought what the hell I'm nailing my GC colours to the mast, I've known these people for almost 20 yrs. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, they're still talking to me.

However, I did make them consider what inclusivity actually meant. Did it mean there's a space for everyone at the table or did it mean one group had to forfeit their space to make space for a particular group? This is what high profile women like Bette & Macey are doing, shining light on the blind allegiance to gender ideology.

Lots of people dismiss scientology as made up, fictious pseudo religion, fantasy nonsense. Yet, people are willing to believe that gender reassignment surgery turns a man into an actual woman. No questions asked or critical thinking there at all. Just blind acceptance of Gender ideology as facts, end of.

Apparently Mark Hamid liked Bette's tweet and it's the end of days.

Hamill has dipped his toe in this issue before and backed down after the Twitter mob has come for him. Obviously he's somewhat gc but was frightened off last time. It will be interesting to see if he backs down this time or not because he will have known what to expect this time around.

KatVonlabonk · 05/07/2022 08:43

They have created a world where people are frightened to say what a woman is.

It's been incredible and terrifying to witness.
Well done to everyone brave enough to stand up and fight.

658Doyouknowwheremysparkis · 05/07/2022 09:11

Really pleased that Mark ( huge account) Hamill has liked Bette’s post.

I’m also raising an eyebrow again at Shappi Khorsandi who is incensed re Roe vs Wade but also posted about the language around women, when she is a confirmed TWAW and is snarky/hostile towards anyone she perceives as a TERF.

I’m wondering if the Rod vs Wade decision has shocked some people into actually thinking… or rather hoping….

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 09:21

The selective blindness of people like Shappi Khorsandi is mind boggling. Defending Verso Books saying “womb carriers” using the excuse that they’re “radical”.

Yes, Shappi, that there be the point flying over your head. Female erasure is a radical position - it’s extremist. That’s why we are resisting it now, before they get their own way and you do find yourself invited to a “womb carriers” struggle session (womb carriers won’t be allowed parties).

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 09:23

Then, hilariously, beneath the tweet where Shappi ridicules the idea that everyday female language will ever be policed or erased, you have a he/him hopping on with this:

’Have you ever heard of this lovely word 'friends'? Or? classmates? Pals? Seems like there are more relevant signifiers for the event than people's body parts, birth status or gender assigned at birth.’

So, about that, Shappi...

WarriorN · 05/07/2022 09:35

We really do need to be saying ejaculators and testical owners more.

The meme, "Low, a man has entered to share his manly views" needs a re work....

nooboonoo · 05/07/2022 09:38

Just seen how this is being reported (in The Independent).
Why do they report it like this? Imagine if the headlines said Bette tweets what most women are thinking but too afraid to say in public? Macy shows support for biology, fact and common sense?
Ffs. I was so happy to see the support flooding in last night and now I'm downright mad all over again.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 09:40

@nooboonoo

The Independent is a weird publication. I don’t think they’ve ever found a contrarian position they didn’t like.

nooboonoo · 05/07/2022 09:47

I just hope other women follow suit. The ONLY way is to speak out about this in an assertive yet calm and sensitive way, as hard as that is sometimes when faced with so much aggression.

FannyCann · 04/07/2022 23:27

Is this the first major usa celeb to publicly come out as a full strength terf?
How wonderful. I've always liked Bette.

I think it is. I can't think of another.

76k likes on Bette's tweet this morning.

I am hoping this is echoing the moment JKR stepped into the fray, but in the US.

Abhannmor · 05/07/2022 10:30

Bette started her career in gay clubs iirc. Has a huge gay following. This might embolden gay ppl who have been cowed into silence. Or guilt tripped.
Brava Divine Miss M .

That's revealing, isn't it? I'm fairly sure that the overwhelming majority of people agree with her, but most are too afraid to say so. The shrill minority are so aggressive, so nasty, so threatening that people feel frightened of them - yet their numbers are tiny.

FannyCann · 05/07/2022 10:46

I believe the Roe v Wade has alerted many people (women and men) to the fact that women are literally fighting for their lives and this is the most important issue for women in USA. And that means women. None of this creeping around the edges with anyone who identifies as a woman.

That is probably what has prompted Bette to come out so strongly and I hope other USA women will feel emboldened to follow suit. It's definitely the USA JKR moment.

I’ve seen tweets saying she ‘built her career on the backs of the LGBTQIA+ community’. No she didn’t. She has fans in that community. That doesn’t mean they did the work and it certainly doesn’t mean she owes them thought-loyalty.

NotBadConsidering · 05/07/2022 10:56

I agree I think that’s it. It’s likely a tipping point for many. People, women in particular, who would otherwise have been supportive, have looked at the fact that the TRAs can’t even let discussions around abortion go without making sure the gender woo gets incorporated and gone “they won’t even let us have THIS?! There is NOTHING they won’t appropriate for the gender woo cause?! Fuck this for a game of soldiers.”

The word "woman" aka an "anti trans dog whistle"

The day that stirring misogynistic rag folds will be a good day.

I agree.

Banning abortion is unequivocally wrong in most peoples eyes. Removing the terms to describe the people who are affected by it is going to be seen as equally wrong.

Berating women for wanting to use those terms is going to be seen as entirely unacceptable.

We're watching the utter narcissistic self-centredness of transgenderism play out.

It's the Ricky Gervais sketch come to life.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 11:14

For people who think prejudiced dog whistles can only be heard by the prejudiced, they are remarkably proficient at detecting them.

It's quite something, isn't it, when women talking about the complete control of their own bodies by men, is described as anti male.

Because it is about males. It's not about transmen at all. It's about not allowing the word, or even the concept, of woman to be reliant on female biology.
