Just posted on Twitter. The usual suspects are all over the replies, obviously, so give her some support if you can—but there's a surprising amount of balance. Seems to me that the scales have finally started to tip.

It was always going to be sunlight.

---WOMEN OF THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name! They don’t call us “women” anymore; they call us “birthing people” or “menstruators”, and even “people with vaginas”!
Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!---

I really hate the way people are using the word 'inclusive', you include more by adding more so if they said "women and people who menstruate" that would be inclusive. Removing us is EXclusive, calling us by our body parts is reductive, none of the ways that 'inclusive' language is currently being used is inclusive.

Another example would be changing rooms and prisons, you don't make female facilities inclusive by removing their single sex status, you offer an inclusive option by adding a third space that is unisex and can be used by anyone who is comfortable using it.

AsTreesWalking · 04/07/2022 18:49

Go Bette!

JacquelinePot · 04/07/2022 18:59

Good lord, the replies are an absolute dumpster fire! I hope she stands her ground

Thank goodness. I was worried when I opened this thread.

100%. I was totally braced.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/07/2022 19:19

Amazing women.
Hopefully it will encourage more to speak up.

WarriorN · 04/07/2022 19:21

Whoop!

I agree. I did like what Sebastian Coe said the other day "just because it's inclusive doesn't mean it's fair"

PattyMelt · 04/07/2022 19:25

Love Bette.
The You don't own me clip covers such a lot going on right now. I added it to my Facebook

Bernadettebleu · 04/07/2022 19:39

Love her for saying this.

Less keen on her outing Ivanka Trump for having an abortion when she was younger.

Manderleyagain · 04/07/2022 19:43

Is this the first time she has said anything?

I too was feeding the worst when I opened the thread.

nepeta · 04/07/2022 19:44

The replies vary, actually, though it would be good to add more from the gender-critical side. But she has over 28,000 likes.

I am rather surprised by the number of the woke who seem to think that 'woman' is just some abstract feeling of fluffy femininity. Though probably most on that thread identify as something else than women, even if they are female people.

ThickCutSteakChips · 04/07/2022 19:46

Holy shit, have just seen this on Twitter - and Macy Gray too!

I have to say I'm pretty shocked, I would have had Bette Midler down as being 100% TWAW. Really hope she doesn't backtrack.

I can't believe it tbh!

bellinisurge · 04/07/2022 19:51

Thank goodness. More sunlight! More women who won't be cowed

ThickCutSteakChips · 04/07/2022 19:56

I cannot wait to watch Twitter lose their absolute shit over this - it's Bette Fuckin Midler!

Bernadettebleu · 04/07/2022 19:56

Really really hope she doesn’t tweet a grovelling apology thanking the woke bullies for educating her and saying that she’ll do better.

Inclusive is often used wrong. It's not inclusive to have male-born people in women's sports because women's sports exist for the purpose of including women fairly in sports, i.e., separate from male-bodied people. And Paralympics are a way to include individuals who have disabilities in sports in a fair way and so on. Often real inclusiveness requires having relevant boundaries and keeping them.

And this new inclusive language about female sex both ridicules us and invalidates our embodied gender definitions and also will ultimately make it very hard to even work for issues which are sex-based, including fighting against FGM, sex-selective abortions, sexual trafficking etc.

It's just more of that 'be kind' propaganda.

ethelredonagoodday · 04/07/2022 20:01

Similarly relieved to see what she posted!

I doubt it. This is the current ratio.

Much as I would have had more respect for this tweet a year ago, I think GC women have laid enough groundwork and shifted the conversation back to where people feel safer to speak up.

It's very obvious which way the wind is blowing.

Is this the first high profile US woman to speak out on the issue?

ThickCutSteakChips · 04/07/2022 20:31

None of the usual suspects have posted about this on Twitter at all. I guess they are trying to avoid the Streisand Effect! Unfortunately for them, 'Bette' is trending....

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/07/2022 20:35

No death threats? I saw earnest women trying to re-educate her using the usual “I used to think like you till I found genderjesus!” lines. A distinct shortage of males threatening to murder all her relatives but I suppose it’s early days.

WarriorN · 04/07/2022 20:38

Macy Gray is trending and the posts are overwhelmingly positive!

Except from Paul in Derby.
